Sea turtles, rays, needlefish, and barracuda are just a few that have been seen here, not to mention the wide array of colorful smaller fish that grace these waters. The water here is calm thanks to the protective reef that runs between the two points, providing an ideal environment for swimming, snorkeling, and kayaking, all of this is right outside your door.

Unlisted Amenities
Nah Uxibal is Mayan for "House of good energy"... each accomodation also has an individual name. The Casitas are IK, which means wind, and HA, which means water.
The studio names are KIN for the sun, and AKNA for the moon.

About Nah Uxibal

Nah Uxibal was created with the idea of providing a peaceful, private environment where guest can truly relax and rejuvenate. We are located on a quiet, residential bay with no hotels or condos nearby. All accommodations are comfortable and tastefully decorated, equipped with full kitchens, king beds, and ceiling fans.

The casitas IK and HA sit at the front of the property, closest to the water and on either side of the main house. These romantic units with dinning areas and elevated bedrooms are perfect for couples or families with a small child.

The unique design of the Main Villa consists of two downstairs studio units separated by a large open sitting area. A soothing waterfall, comfortable couches, and the sea breeze all make this central area perfect for reading or socializing. The studios KIN and AKNA on either side are large fully equipped one room units ideal for singles or couples.

Upstairs in the Main Villa is the master suite UXIBAL. This is a very special two bedroom home with an additional sleeping area on the third floor. The open, spacious floor plan, the large ocean terrace, all under a grand palapa roof will take your breath away. UXIBAL is filled with many special touches and is a great home for families or groups of up to six people. All units can be rented together or separately.

 Javier & Victoria
We are very lucky to have Javier and Victoria on site as caretakers. Not only are they wonderful at their jobs but are a warm and friendly couple happy to be there. They will do anything possible to help make your stay enjoyable. Your quarters will be cleaned daily (except Sunday) and linens changed every three days.

All drinking water and some food staples are provided.

Nah Uxibal is a special home built with a loving care that comes through to those that stay inside it's walls. Outside it's walls the magic of the Yucatan will relax and rejuvenate you. The sand under your feet, the sea breeze on your face, and the clear blue waters of the Caribbean sea will all be part of a vacation that you will never forget.

Which airport do we fly into? How far is it from Nah Uxibal? You will be flying into Cancun airport and then traveling south on highway 307 for about 1 hour and 15 min. to get to Nah Uxibal.
Do I need a passport? No, you do not need a passport to enter Mexico. Passports make it easy but you can also bring an original birth certificate, (one with the raised seal, not a copy) and a valid picture I.D. Children traveling with just one parent need to have notarized permission from the other parent to leave the United States.

Do we need to rent a car? We recommend renting a car for several reasons. First of all, the cost ends up about the same when you add up all the taxi and bus fares.
Secondly, Nah Uxibal is about one mile off of the main highway, which is great because you are far away from noise and traffic. It’s not so great if you have to walk a mile to catch the shuttle into town each time.
Also, it is great to have the freedom to go exploring. There is so much to see that is off the main route of the shuttles and busses in the area that you won’t want to miss!

Where is the closest grocery store and restaurants? The sweet town of Tulum is just 10 minutes down the highway from Nah Uxibal. There you will find a large grocery store, fruit stands, a fresh fish market, bakery, tortilla factory, internet, a laundromat, many great restaurants, and lots of wonderful gift shops. In other words, all you need and more. We also have one restaurant within walking distance of Nah Uxibal, with very good fresh seafood.

Is the drinking water safe? We supply all of our units with plenty of purified bottled water for drinking and cooking.

Is there someone who can cook for us? Yes, there are some wonderful cooks who live on the bay. If you would like them to cook for you just let us know how many meals you would like and we will pass this information on. Then, after your arrival, they will meet with you to discuss the menu and price. It usually costs about the same as going out, but with great leftovers!

Is it safe to eat the fruits and vegetables? Yes, just wash all your fruits and vegetables without skins before eating them. We supply a disinfectant and directions in each unit.

Do you have air conditioning? No, we do not have air conditioning because we find it truly is not necessary. Since we are right on the water, the breeze off of the ocean tends to keep the temperature considerably cooler than it is inland. The ceiling fans are also great to help keep the air ”moving”. July and August are the really warm months that people who are sensitive to heat or live in a much cooler climate may be uncomfortable, but most people do fine. We spend a lot of time there in the summer, the cenotes are great then!

What is the beach like? Is it safe for kids? The beach in front of Nah Uxibal is made of white sand from the coral reefs in the area. Soliman Bay is a large but relatively shallow bay that has a very gradual slope at the shore, so it is very safe for kids. There is a short sea grass just at the edge that is very important for the ecosystem and to keep the sand in place. In the sea grass are trails and pools that are wonderful for very small children to play safely in the water.

How private is Nah Uxibal? Nah Uxibal is on a residential bay of only private homes. There are no condos or hotels, so the only people you will see are other vacationers and people that live there year round walking occasionally along the beach. It is very quiet and peaceful at Nah Uxibal, even during high season.

What is a cenote? The entire Yucatan Peninsula is very unique because it is made up of limestone with underground rivers running out to the ocean. The centoes are places where the water of these rivers is exposed at the surface. This water is very cool, clean and soft. There are beautiful cave formations created by these rivers as well that cave divers love to explore. As well as lots of wondrous, beautiful cenotes to swim and snorkel in.

Where are the closest golf course and tennis courts? Puerto Adventuras is about 20 min. north of us and has both a golf course and tennis courts. PlayaCar is a large resort 30 min. north with both as well.

Is the gratuity and tax included in the price of the rental? The tax is included; the gratuity for our wonderful caretakers Javier and Victoria is not. Only for a group of 10 or more do we include the gratuity in the rental costs, when we will add on 8% to the total cost of the reservation.

When is the best time of year to go? We believe there is no “bad” time to go to Mexico, and it just depends on what you are looking for.
Jan- June are the most ideal and popular months. The weather is warm and sunny, although it can be windy and cooler in the beginning of the year when you will probably need a sweater in the evenings.
June-Sept. is turtle season, when the females come in to lay their eggs. It is warm (hottest in July and Aug) and can rain occasionally, which can be very refreshing. This is the time of year to see the turtles and is not too warm if you are staying by the water, inland can be really hot! Last year we had a nest right in front of Nah Uxibal, and 50 days later 80-90 babies made it safely into the bay!
Sept is an ideal month. The crowds are gone, the prices are low. Although warm it is not too hot, and the last of the baby turtles are hatching.
Oct-Dec is rainy season and it can rain heavily for long periods. This is also hurricane season and the storms this time of year can be quite exciting and intense. It is still warm and the sun does still come out and it can be very pleasant. This time of year it can rain or be sunny for a week straight, but probably will be both. If you are prepared for the sudden rain showers it can be a wonderful time to be in Mexico, less expensive and no crowds.

How do you pronounce Nah Uxibal? In the Mayan language, “x” is pronounced like our “sh” sound, you will see this in other names around the Maya Riviera as well.
So Nah Uxibal is said something like “Nah Oo-she-ball”.

Property Activities
Soliman Bay

The Pristine waters of Soliman Bay provide fabulous snorkeling opportunities for all ages and levels of experience. Protected by the second largest reef in the world, the waters are calm and relatively shallow, making viewing easy and fun. A wide variety of corals and sealife grace these waters with their bright colors and textures. Swimming out to the reef is a great workout, or if you prefer you can take the kayak, tie to a bouy, and enter the grand elk and staghorn corals. This is a truly magnificent experience, where time fall away and you become part of an old and sacred world, one so exquisite in it's connectedness that we can't help but be gifted by it's incredible beauty. Closer in, and past the sea grass, (a very important part of the ecosystem) are many a little oasis of brain and other corals, perfect for kids or those who prefer to stay closer to land.

 Mayan Ruins, Diving, Highlights

For those who like to explore deeper waters, the nearby dive shops of Tulum and Akumal will help you to discover the second largest reef in the world that runs along this exquisite coastline. While you are here, be sure to visit the nearby Mayan Ruins of Tulum and Coba. A trip to the Ancient city of Chichen Itza and back is easily done in a day. Cenotes, (underwater caves) are plentiful in this area and each one is different and unique but all are clear and refreshing.
