So, what's with the weird names, anyway? Stay in our home, read (and please add to) The Story of Grazelza Gunch to find out! This home is as suitable for a romantic getaway as it is for a gathering of friends or a family retreat.
This sun-filled, 1,500 sq.ft., home is a mere block away from "the surfer's" beach access in the unique village of Oceanside. The side yard is perfect for croquet and for idling on the wooden swing for two. The fully-fenced back yard is described below.
Upstairs: The L.H. Franistat Room (master bedroom) has a romantic outdoor deck for two, with an ocean view, vaulted ceilings and a sitting loft that has an expansive view of the ocean and of the Three Arch Rocks! There are two queen sized beds in this room, one of which is a Select Comfort SLEEP NUMBER© bed! The shower bathroom is detached, with a multi-setting shower head.
The living room has a firm sofa that converts to a queen sized bed (it is NOT a fold-out!) and has a built-in chaise. There is a propane fueled fireplace, which comes in handy during Winter storms (in case the power goes out), for chilly nights. The 3 TVs have cable and DVD (CD) players (with surround sound in the living room for the action flick lovers).
The dining room table pulls-away from the wall to seat up to 10 (4 on folding chairs) and the toddler table seats two. There is a "peek-a-boo view" of the ocean from the living room, the adjoining upper deck and the sitting loft.
Downstairs: The Flizzip Room (family room) has very cushy seating on a modern sleeper sofa, a large
ottoman for game boards plus two side tables that can be pulled-out for coloring or dominos, a comfy reading chair (with a massage cushion), portable CD and cassette tape player and entertainment center with cable TV/DVD.
We have a rechargeable walkie-talkie set that can be used if some of you go to the beach and some stay behind (cell phones won't work there). Your kids will enjoy the fun extras in the many closets (stored so that guests without kids will not stumble over them).
The P. Parfine Room (kids' room) is more fully explained by the photos on the right. There are bunk beds and a changing table. We have stored, in various closets, a bassinet, infant swing, infant carry seats and a portable crib (which can be moved to any room for use). The G. Gafoo Room (guest room) has a full sized fold-down (not out) couch and a great rocking chair. The jetted tub bathroom is down the hall. There is a stacked washer and dryer.
We provide enough cuddly (but covering) cotton robes for our guests to enjoy the hot tub off of the wrap-around porch in back. In back, a picnic table under the cherry tree is perfect for Summer BBQs using the charcoal grill. If a chill hits the air, fire-up the wood burning outdoor fireplace and rest in the hammock (cover-up with a fleece throw) near the pond. There is parking for a max. of 4 cars in front of the home.
Our Guests are Precious to Us! We have a portable ionic air purifier and an ozone filtration system installed in the hot tub. All unused outlets are plugged and dangerous items are stored out of little reach. Cabinets with heavy items have stops installed. No cords will be hanging from anything heavy for curious hands to pull. We keep removable baby gates, child proof door knob covers and sliding glass door locks stored, for your use while your family is there.
The things you will not find stocked in our home, so bring them with you if you can't live without them, are very many disposable items. We try to be as ecologically responsible as a busy family can be, so we do not stock items like paper towels (we use washable white cotton cloths, okay not previously used diapers, instead) or disposable plastic bags (we use reusable containers instead). If you are familiar with the "rules" of composting, feel free to add to the pile! We also ask that you leave your unused plastic bags with us instead of throwing them away.
We do not use harsh chemical cleaners in our home. We special order most cleaning products from NZ, because of their environmentally friendly approach. Otherwise, our cleaning products and toiletry items are as cruelty-free and Earth friendly as we can find. Sadly, bleach must be used in the jetted bath tub to be safe enough for our guests to use. We continue to look for better alternatives, however, such as with our hot tub.

The beds (including the sofa beds) have very high quality mattresses, including cushy Memory Foam (hypoallergenic) toppers and a multitude of pillows (including contoured Memory Foam) for extra-dreamy dreams. One of the master bedroom queen beds is a Select Comfort SLEEP NUMBER © bed with two remotes, so no squabbles over the setting!
All sheets are either pima cotton, Egyptian cotton or flannel, with a 300 Thread count or higher. All blankets, throws, quilts and comforters are either cotton (chenille for baby), hypoallergenic down or polar fleece. The robes that we provide for hot tub purposes are 100% cozy cotton.
Our bathrooms are stocked with incredibly soft and thirsty towels, quality TP (no sandpaper), cruelty free and biodegradeable hand soap, bath/shower gel and lotion. There are also special towels and toiletries for every stage of little one, from newborn to pre-teen.
The kitchen is set-up, with everything that you forgot you needed, to prepare either a light snack or an intricate meal! There are: a dishwasher, a range with a decent oven, a built-in microwave and a fridge with an ice maker. Your little ones will enjoy using their own set of colorful (dishwasher safe) Melamine dishes, bowls, tippy cups and utensils. If the weather be foul (let's face it, this is Oregon) fire-up the indoor S'Mores "stovelet" - under adult supervision, of course!
There are 3 TV's with cable and DVD players (the living room has surround sound), a portable CD and cassette tape player, 2 CD/MP3 player alarm clocks (one has an input for your portable CD player and the other a built-in CD player, both have an input for your portable MP3 players) a telescope and a Nintendo PS1 with family friendly games. Speaking of games, we take great pride in our fabulous collection of them! For now only high speed dial-up Internet access is available, through a local ISP. We are waiting for wireless companies to catch-on to our market!

CLAMMING, CRABBING, FISHING: Netarts Bay - clean & pure - is great for crabbing & clamming. Check to make sure it's allowed because sometimes there are certain plankton in the water (called red tides) which make the shellfish toxic to eat. Josi's Deli in Netarts usually has clam shovels for sale - and they would know if the bay or ocean are closed due to red tide. Netarts Bay RV Park, 503-842-4774, rents boats with crab rings. You can not really harvest oysters because they are commercially farmed here. You can buy fresh oysters in the shell to take-out from Whiskey Creek Cafe, however. You can find fishing guides or charter trips, both for river and ocean fishing, on the docks in Garibaldi or via Tillamook Chamber of Commerce (link provided below).
KAYAKING: There are kayak rentals in Tillamook on Hwy. 101 North. Lake Meares by Cape Meares is a quiet lake for kayaking without waves. Flat water paddling on Dougherty and Harquarton slough is a unique experience. Since you are not part of a group, you can choose your start and finish times, you can paddle at your own speed and you can choose your own route! The Dougherty and Harquarton Sloughs are calm and serene and a great place to kayak and leave civilization behind. Explore the exotic and ever-changing estuary with soaring eagles, hawks and a wide variety of birds, plants and water life. 503-812-3913 Kim Combs. The local community college can book kayaking instructions for you and/or for your group http://www.tbcc.cc.or.us/%7Ewater/ .
GOING TO THE BEACH: Happy Camp in Netarts is one great place to access the beach. There is a public parking lot and there are restrooms too. You can walk for miles along sandy beaches on most days.
Cape Lookout campground has a great day use parking area and you can hike 2.5 miles to the end of Netarts Spit where herons & sometimes pelicans frequent, and seals bask on the beach.
Of course, there's the Oceanside wayside (also with restrooms) where you can go through the tunnel (at your own risk, of course).
Farther North you can park by Radar Road and use the stairs to go through a natural cave at low tide - but it fills up very quickly and without warning with the incoming tide so be extremely careful! There are tidepools in the cave with starfish & sea anemone.
Finally, driving North to Cape Meares you can access the 5 mile spit and hike down to where the town of Bayocean used to sit prior to being washed into the sea. We've been told that one can still find remnants of the foundations of the old town. There are no bathrooms there, however.
REMEMBER TO BE CAUTIOUS at the beach, especially with children! NEVER turn your back on the ocean. Sneaker waves can surprise you and pull you out to sea. Also, check the tide tables before going for walks or climbing on rocks, you could become stranded as the tides come in without warning. It is definitely not obvious the tide is coming in, especially if you're paying attention to other things. NEVER climb on logs because a sneaker wave can cause one to roll over you. Please stay clear of bluffs due to falling rocks.
OTHER HIKES: Try hiking around the bluffs and through the woods by the Cape Meares Lighthouse.

12/08/05 Positive This place is awesome! We stayed for three nights and enjoyed both the private romantic hot tub and jetted bathtub. We had no trouble turning on the gas fireplace, which was surprisingly similar to a wood fire compared with any other gas fireplace I've seen. We were glad to find an abundance of plush, soft, white towels in both bathrooms. We were lucky to find such a nice house at the last minute and so close to the beach! There is a trail about a block immediately west of the house which made it easy for us to haul our firewood to the beach! Tony Zielinski, Portland, OR
