    Local activities:
We have an extensive guide to the island, including maps, phone numbers, recommendations for restaurants etc in the house. Hopefully this will give you some idea of what to expect.
    From Casuarina Bay:
Facing the ocean from Casuarina Bay, you can walk left (north) to the breathtaking beaches of Twin Coves (two beaches connected by a small sand-spit to an island). Or you can walk right (south) for miles along the exquisite Pink Sand beaches. Two miles south you will find Tippy's - a lovely restaurant right on the beach which makes a perfect lunch destination. The beachcombing is good, and you are likely to have the stunning beaches to yourself. You can also take out the ocean kayaks and explore the coast line from the water- stopping to snorkel along the route.

There is a lot to see if you jump in the water right in front of Casuarina Bay. You can sometimes even catch a glimpse of the giant parrotfish and turtles right from the shore There are many pristine patch reefs and seagrass beds to explore. The bay is protected by a barrier reef which runs a few hundred yards out and helps to keep the water calm and safe for children.  The reefs are more developed and the fish bigger on the Atlantic side of the island (the Casuarina Bay side), but if the water is rough in the Atlantic, you may find calmer snorkeling and better visibility on the Caribbean side.

We provide some beach toys, 2 kayaks and boogie boards in the house which you are welcome to use.

    Exploring Eleuthera:
The Queen's Highway, running the entire length of island, connects Eleuthera's many small settlements and makes exploring by car relatively easy. You can explore numerous incredible and virtually untouched beaches and blue holes, see the amazing cliffs and the glass window bridge (where the island actually breaks in half). The Glasswindow Bridge spans a gap in which the deep Atlantic meets the calm shallow water of the Caribbean Sea on the island's leeward side.

Harbor Island off the north end of Eleuthera (about 1.5 hours away), is accessed by a 10 minute water taxi.  Enchanting Dunmore town on Harbor Island was the original capitol of the Bahamas and makes a great day trip. It's brightly painted houses are charming and there are many nice restaurants and gift stores and one of the most famous spectacular pink sand beaches in the Bahamas. There are some great SCUBA diving expeditions available in Harbour island, including reef and wreck dives.

    Beaches:
Surfer's Beach is down a bumpy road just south of Gregory Town. There is no barrier reef in front of Surfer's Beach and the waves can get very big- take our boogie boards with you and have fun! There is a driftwood surf shack and usually a surfboard stashed in the bushes for anyone to use.

The Lighthouse Beach at the south-eastern tip of Eleuthera is a very beautiful and remote beach that is well worth a visit. There are high limestone cliffs, great snorkelling, and on a clear day you can see the next island of Little San Salvador from the lighthouse.

    Fishing:
You can rent a Boston Whaler boat by the day for fishing, snorkeling or exploring the coast. Local guides will take you on trips spear fishing or hand lining and one can also deep sea fishing (for tuna, mahi mahi etc.) The deep sea fishing captain can also take you for picnics on beautiful deserted islands at the southern end of Eleuthera, and SCUBA diving off the Wall (where the ocean floor drop from 60 feet to some 5,000 feet).

There is world famous bonefishing off many of beaches on the western side of the Eleuthera. (the best one just 1.5 miles away from Casuarina Bay). Even right in Governor's Harbour you will probably find lots of bonefish and even the occasional tarpon. There is also good bonefishing in the mangrove creeks the eastern side of the island.

    Other things to do:
Moonlit walks on the beach are highly recommended!  Swim at night and enjoy the bioluminescence then jump into the hot tub and enjoy the stars.

One can go spelunking in the hatchet Bay caves. The caves are filled with stalactites and stalagmites and include an underwater lake. It runs for half a mile underground and you can climb out at the other end.

The Globe Princess theatre in Governors harbour has movies every night.  You can buy snacks and freshly-made conch salad there.

The Ocean Hole in Rock Sound is a natural saltwater inland blue hole stocked with fish. It is connected to the ocean by underwater tunnels and rises and falls with the tide. You can jump in and swim with the fish or feed them from the edge.

The Island School at the south-western tip of the island-at Cape Eleuthera (about a 2 hour drive), is a study-abroad semester program for high school students. The program focuses on marine conservation and science research. You are welcome to visit, and the students will give you a tour of the campus which is powered by solar panels and a wind generator. One can usually go SCUBA diving on the wall with guides from the school which make the trip well work while.

    Testimonials
The House was fantastic. The sand, beach water, snorkeling, locals and "da fish fry" were nothing less than perfect. Thank you for the opportunity to visit such a wonderful place. The visit was exactly what all of us needed.

We had a fantastic vacation at your beachfront home. I don't think I have ever seen a more beautiful place in my life. We had an awesome time and would encourage others to experience such overwhelming beauty."

"What a perfect break from Pittsburgh winter as well as our usually hectic pace. It was a rare opportunity to be together without interruptions and share the beauty of this magical place. Beauty beyond words, the colors, water, sand, sky, watching the Atlantic meet the Caribbean, the sunsets, the sunrises, the lizards, the shells, the flowers, the fish- all the best!"
