Property Information
Relax and enjoy the splendor of Rome from this scenic country home just 45 minutes by car outside of the Eternal City. Whether you choose a 20 minute drive to imperial Tivoli and hop on the commuter rail or park by the Rebibbia Metro, 30 minutes away, you'll be strolling in Rome within the hour.
Completely private, Villa Gigi sits on the breezy side of a hill nestled by gardens, terraces, patios, lawns and woods. Each level of this two story home opens onto a variety of outdoor spaces including a large wrap around patio with a built in barbecue and a wood burning pizza oven. From the pool area, the views stretch out over a sea of steeply forested hills. With no other homes in sight, nature dominates the scenery and complements Gigi's peaceful solitude.
This temple of stone, beam and tile crafts a spacious and enticing atmosphere. Several of the rooms open onto each other and lead you through an easy, airy ambiance that is further magnified when the French doors leading to a wraparound patio are opened.
Villa Gigi successfully marries modern comforts with a tasteful interior scheme and an array of fascinating stained glass portals, curios and antiques. All of the bedroom windows and the two French doors in the dining room are screened. In addition to a well equipped kitchen, there's a barbecue fireplace, fit for the medieval cook in your family. Maid and meal service may be requested when booking.
A five minute drive leads to tiny Gerano for supplies or to dine in its outrageously quaint local trattoria. In 20 minutes by car is Tivoli, the oldest vacation resort in the world. In the midst of its 500 fountains, you will discover Hadrian's villa, Villa d'Este, Villa Gregoriana, temples, waterfalls and parks galore, not to mention some equally impressive restaurants. Lofty Subiaco, within a 25 minute drive, is home to the Benedictine order, ancient libraries, Romanesque churches, Nero's villa, triumphal arches, fallen arches (oops) and skiing.
In Palestrina, a 40 minute drive away lies Palazzo Colonna Barberini, a captivating archaeological museum built upon an early Roman temple and an even earlier Etruscan town. Massive stone walls, still intact, scale the hilltop. Sulmona and the majesty of the Maiella mountains are within 45 minutes.
Within an hour's drive from Villa Gigi are Abruzzo's capital, L'Aquila, the spas of Fiuggi and of course, Rome itself.
