Property Information |

This four bedroom, four and one-half bath villa is situated on a
dramatic cliffside with a commanding view of the Bahia de
Manzanillo, the mountains of Colima, and the beautiful
coastline of the Playa de Oro on Mexico’s Pacific Coast.
Located in the prestigious, private, gated La Punta enclave of
magnificent villas and gardens, our home overlooks the
renowned Las Hadas resort. Guests at Casa Lucero have a
private beach, tennis courts and teaching pro, lap pool and
exercise room available to them on La Punta’s extensive
grounds. At our home, enjoy the excellent cuisine and careful
attention of a full-time, bilingual staff of four. Lounge in the
horizon pool or relax in one of the many art-filled rooms of this
stylish home. The staff will plan golf outings to the
championship course at Las Hadas or to the magnificent Grand
Bay-Isla Navidad’s 27 holes or to El Tamarindo’s exotic,
spectacular course. Special picnics can be prepared for the
beach and deep-sea fishing or horseback riding excursions are
easily arranged. Or, you might just sit in the sun, enjoying the
perfect combination of ocean breezes and attentive service to
your every need.
The name “Casa Lucero” is taken from the Spanish term,
“lucero de la manana” for the morning star (Venus) which rises
late and can be almost as bright as the moon over the Bahia de
Manzanillo. We have lovely gardens around our home, which
was designed by the noted Mexican architect, Joaquin Torres
Zapiain. Arquitecto Torres is the leading designer and builder
of many of La Punta’s most unique and beautiful homes.
Our home blends modern open spaces with ethnographic art
and custom made colonial-influenced furniture. We traveled
with Joaquin to Antigua, Guatemala (the colonial capital of
Guatemala). There we were inspired by stone and wood motifs,
which we used in the house, and particularly by the concept of
the imposing wooden doors behind which lies an incredible
open courtyard, gardens and a breathtaking view – all revealed
to the surprise of the visitor when the doors are swung open. In
the surrounding countryside we purchased hand woven fabrics
in traditional patterns, which we have used throughout the
house. The house is now filled with art by noted Mexican and
U.S. artists as well as many unique artifacts we have collected
from artisans in our travels around Mexico and the Caribbean.

Welcome! ¡Bienvenidos!
When you enter through the hand carved wood doors at the
street level, a beautiful, open stone staircase greets you. As
you descend, you can admire the more than 20 varieties of
cactus which thrive (some are quite large) in our open
courtyard cactus garden. The beautiful tiled pool and a 270
degree view of Manzanillo, the mountains and the sea are
breathtaking as you enter the main floor of the house. To the
right is the open dining room, which seats 12, overlooking the
bay and banks of bougainvillea surrounding you.
The high palapa roof and chandelier are very dramatic. Behind
the dining room is a true cook’s kitchen—American style—
complete with Viking Range and a gas barbecue grill. The
kitchen is equipped with every possible appliance, small and
large. Off the kitchen is the laundry, furnished with excellent
quality appliances for care of guests’ clothing. There are details
and artwork, even in the kitchen.
Social Spaces
The large living room dominates the main floor of the house
under its giant palapa and traditional wood beams. The rich
slate tile floor offsets the bright colors of the artwork, accent
walls and the comfortable but elegant furnishings. A built-in bar
makes entertaining very simple. For casual breakfasts and
smaller lunches and dinners there is a granite-topped table for
six under the palapa on the terrace. The main floor has an
elegant powder room with a custom made, traditional
“lavamanos” sink with marble trim. A special feature of the
main floor is the “studio”. This quaint room with its L-shaped
leather sofa, oriental rug, huge coffee table, desk and built-in
media cabinetry, is lined with old maps, antique posters and a
huge mounted sailfish—all of which evoke a cozy, 1930’s feel.
The room has a view of the cactus garden and the sea. It
houses the TV, satellite system, VCR and DVD player as well
as the controls for the sound system which has speakers in the
living room, studio and master bedroom. The studio is air
conditioned and has high speed internet access.
Bedrooms
A grand stone staircase leads to the private lower courtyard
and the bedrooms. Cool air and the delicate sounds of a huge
wall fountain greet you as you enter the shady, large but
intimate space. A wrought iron center table, cool tile floor,
custom-designed wrought iron gate leading to the lower
garden, equipal sofa and chairs, plants and lots of artwork
complete this fan-shaped space off which each bedroom has
its own view of the bay. A small flight of stairs leads to the lower
garden where a profusion of flowering bushes, trees, banana
trees and citrus trees flourish.
Bedrooms: All have separate air conditioning units and large
windows and French doors. All closets have built-in shelves
and drawers along with ample hanging space. For those who
like the romance, there is mosquito netting over each bed,
although insects are not a big problem due to the ocean
breezes. All bedrooms have internet access, plush bathrobes
and hairdryers for the convenience of our guests.
Master Bedroom Suite: Step down into a cool and comfortable
sitting room—with seating area, bookshelves and television –
which leads to the master bed area with its king bed, desk and
lovely veranda with portcullis overlooking the gardens and the
bay. The master bath is very large with two sinks in a marble
topped counter, Jacuzzi bath and open, marble tiled shower
overlooking the garden and the bay. There is a separate toilet
area and a huge walk-in master closet with drawers, shelves,
lots of hanging space and the safe, set in the wall. This is truly a
retreat of cool and quiet on warm afternoons.
Family Bedroom I: A charming room furnished with two double
beds, a large desk and chair and a window seating banquette.
The marble topped vanity and glass walled shower make an
attractive bathroom.
Family Bedroom II: This room also has two double beds,
window seating, a cozy equipal chair and dresser. There is a
walk-in closet with all the necessary storage space. The glass-
doored shower has a window to the bay and the vanity is
marble-topped.
Guest Suite: At the opposite end of the courtyard from the
Master Bedroom is our Guest Suite. It is bigger than the family
bedrooms with its own private terrace overlooking the bay and
a king-sized bed. There is a wall of closet space. The large
shower has a window to the ocean. The walls and countertop
in the bath are marble.
All the bedrooms have original art, custom mirrors and custom
furnishings. Our home is like nothing else in La Punta!
