Il Presepio overlooks the isle of Procida, the Bay of Naples and Mount
Vesuvius. Built into the receding hillside, the home is on four levels. Each
level has furnished terraces, most with sea views, flowers and lemon and
orange trees. The swimming pool, built on the uppermost level, offers
spectacular vistas. Guests are invited to gather vegetables from the
garden on the side.
Entering the first level is like walking into a fairy tale. Antiques, a stone
oven and a host of curios adorn the space. Behind an iron gate are
priceless, handmade crèches dating back centuries. Both the huge dining
hall, seating 22 guests, and the main kitchen on the ground level have
been recently redone. While this professional kitchen is equipped with
commercial appliances, only the stove top, oven and fridge are available
for guest use. For safety reasons, the industrial dishwasher and other
appliances are only used by the owner when meals are requested.
In contrast to the old world style of the ground level, il Presepio’s five
separate entrance suites are furnished in a simple and uncomplicated
manner. Three of the bedrooms have at least one screened window. Each
suite enjoys its own living and dining area equipped with satellite
television and kitchen facilities. Levels are connected only by external
stairs. When rented for 12, two of the five suites are closed.
The owner’s son lives in a separate suite on level one. Acting as the
groundskeeper and tending to the pool, he is also available for any
assistance needed. For those preferring total privacy, he can move to his
parent’s house nearby. We receive endless compliments on this friendly,
helpful and accommodating family. If requested when booking, they can
arrange for maid service, meals and a pizza night centered around the
pizza oven in the main dining hall.
Piedimonte, just over a mile away, has shops, restaurants and a
supermarket. A bus stop, a third of a mile downhill, serves the nearby
towns and the port, 10 minutes away. Keep in mind, this bus is useful for
dropping off those wanting to go on separate excursions. It cannot be
relied on as the only means of transportation. Cars are essential, and il
Presepio’s parking area has room for 10. Arrivals and departures come by
car ferry from Naples. Once on Ischia, passenger hydrofoils reach Procida
in 30 minutes; Naples: 45; Capri: 50. During the summer, sightseeing
boat tours head to the Amalfi coast. Due to the narrow island roads, we
urge renting small cars as opposed to vans.

Shopping and Dining: The closest restaurant is within one third of a mile.
A variety of shops, restaurants and a supermarket may be found in
Piedimonte within 1.5 miles.
Public transportation: The closest bus stop is one third of a mile downhill
from the property with buses to Ischia Porto, Piedimonte, Testaccio and
Maronti Beach.
Daytrips to the mainland: The frequency of transport from the mainland
to Ischia varies according to the season with service ending around 8 pm.
Car ferries and pedestrian hydrofoils regularly run between Ischia and
Naples' Beverello (the main port) or Mergellina ports. To access the towns
of the Amalfi coast, guests may either bring their car over or use bus
transport from Naples. From the Beverello port, a short walk leads to the
Stazione Centrale with bus service to the coastal towns. During the
summer months, Capitan Morgan, a boating excursion company offers
narrated sightseeing trips of the Amalfi coast with short stops in some
coastal towns.
Tennis: Courts are available a 5 minute drive from the property at the
"Tennis Club Punto d'Incontro".
Beaches: The closest sandy beaches are in Maronti or Ischia Porto, both a
10 minute drive away.
