Park Slope
Park Slope is an amazingly vibrant, active, creative community. Home to world-famous authors, composers and artists, it is always exciting and alive.
Walking Tour of 7th Avenue
Brooklyn Academy of Music
A fifteen minute walk from our B&B. BAM is America’s oldest performing arts center and the country’s leading venue of cutting-edge dance, music, opera, film, and children’s programs. Try to visit in the fall for the Next Wave Festival, a showcase of emerging artists from all over the world.
Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Fifty-three acres of garden, 13,000 plant varieties, the world famous Japanese Hill and Pond Garden, the glass-domed Steinhardt Conservatory, and the nation’s largest collection of bonsai plants. All of this only four blocks away.
Brooklyn Museum of Art
The second largest art museum in America: five floors and 1.5 million works of art, including one of the finest Egyptian collections in the world and a rotating calendar of special exhibits. On the first Saturday of every month, the museum throws open its doors for a huge dance party, often with live orchestra. Free!
Prospect Park
Designed by Frederick Law Olmstead and Calvert Vaux, the park comprises 526 acres of fields, woods, playgrounds, ball fields, horse paths, waterfalls, boat rentals, the Kate Wollman Rink, and the only urban Audubon Center. Every Sunday in the warm months, from 2pm – 7pm, the Congo Square Drummers congregate in Drummers Grove. The park also includes the most elegant antique carousel in the city (still only 50 cents a ride!).
Prospect Park Zoo
A small gem, designed especially for kids, with more than 400 animals living in nature-like habitats.
Brooklyn Childrens Museum
This is the nation’s first museum created for kids, housed in a spectacularly strange underground building. Includes 10 galleries of interactive exhibits.
Labor Day Caribbean Carnival
More than a million revelers from every Caribbean nation, scores of floats, hundreds of dancers troops. Thousands of undulating dancers, steel bands galore. (and politicians shamelessly taking advantage of the exposure). They all dance and jump and march the five-mile route of Eastern Parkway.
Local Shopping and Businesses
You will find an enormous number of interesting small shops, boutiques, specialty stores, antique stores, gourmet shops all within walking distance. In particular, visit Park Slope's 5th Avenue, one of NYC’s great culinary & boutique store destinations.
Nightlife
Park Slope is home to a great nightlife scene, from the major music venue NorthSix to numerous smaller bars and "scenes" Nightlife in Park Slope
