Stonehame Lodge and Chalets is in central Nova Scotia on Fitzpatrick Mountain, Pictou County; minutes from the historic town of Pictou and a short drive from Truro, the hub of Nova Scotia. Our cottage accommodation and lodge is a convenient destination when traveling to Cape Breton Island and a great location for exploring the nearby Northumberland Shore.

This picturesque mountainous region was first settled by James Fitzpatrick who moved to Nova Scotia from Ireland in the 1800's. Fitzpatrick was given one of five farmsteads in the area. The chalets, at Stonehame Lodge and Chalets are named after those original homesteaders whose descendants worked the land on Fitzpatrick Mountain for over 200 years.

Stonehame Farm which includes a portion of Fitzpatrick Mountain as part of those original farmsteads has been owned and operated by the Gunn family of Scotsburn for nearly 50 years. Today, four generations of the Gunn family live on Stonehame Farm, a working farm that produces young female dairy cows (heifers) and forage and grain crops. Immerse yourself in the history of these families (a written history provided in every unit) as you sit by the fire in your mountaintop chalet or in our charming lodge. Visit our little log cabin built by Don Gunn Sr. so his grandchildren could experience a real woodsman camp! Explore the property and see the old rock fences and read about the hardships that were endured by these families as they cleared the land for future generations.

J. Donald Gunn Sr., my grandfather, passed away in April 2000 but not before he worked on the construction of our lodge and had a hand in many of the “little touches” that you will find around the property. Grandpa had a passion for nature, family and the land and I know he would be proud of what has happened on Fitzpatrick Mountain over the past few years. I had the opportunity to come home from college and work on the farm with Grandpa and Dad for a few months before Grandpa passed away, a time that I will always treasure. Today, there are four generations living on Stonehame Farm and we intend to continue to make agriculture, family, the land and nature a significant part of the Stonehame experience. Farming is in our blood and we cannot imagine our lives without it. We invite you to visit the farm and learn about what goes into producing food and working the land.

The MacKenzie Room

Our Nova Scotia meeting facilities include cathedral ceilings, large windows and a large stone fireplace. The natural warmth of wood, an over-sized sofa and two large wing-backed chairs with lots of cushions await those who seek an informal approach. Patio doors lead to a large, furnished outdoor deck overlooking the historic landmarks of Pictou County (birthplace of New Scotland), the Northumberland Strait and Prince Edward Island. There are two other smaller meeting rooms at the lodge, each of which can accommodate 12 people. Both boast spectacular vistas of the natural, abundantly lush setting of Stonehame.

Country Mountain Air, Great Food

Food is an essential component in the planning of any successful function, corporate event, business meeting, group tour, family activity or weekend getaway. Stonehame prides itself on its menu which features the ultimate in 'home-made country freshness'. We have a hearty BBQ menu in season and outstanding menu selections for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We are more than willing to provide that necessary post walk or "break time" tray of delicious snacks to revive you after a few hours of exploration or demanding meetings. Special requests are welcomed and we are licensed to serve you.

Introducing our Geocaching Team Building Event!

Try one of the fastest-growing activities on the planet at Stonehame Lodge and Chalets. Stonehame is now offering an on-site geocaching activity for groups, whether you are here for a family reunion, birthday party, or a corporate get-away. Geocaching, a very popular hobby with people of all ages from all parts of the globe, involves using a GPS (Global Positioning Unit) to locate a 'cache' or treasure. It is an activity that gets you outdoors in the fresh air, provides lots of exercise and loads of fun. Groups of 8 or more people are required (32 people maximum). Cost is $15 plus tax per person and includes rental of the GPS unit for the group (number of units depends on the size of the group), a 20 minute tutorial on the use of the GPS and the Stonehame geocaching exercise including hints and puzzles to find the geocaches hidden on the property. Ask us for more information on this exciting new offering at Stonehame.

Weddings

Whether you are looking for an intimate Nova Scotia wedding ceremony in front of a roaring fire as the snow falls gently outside, or a Nova Scotia wedding outdoors with our charming lodge and the vibrant fall colours as a backdrop, we will consult with you to ensure your wedding is stress free and all that you dreamed.

Our Lodge is licensed for up to 100 people. Your wedding breakfast, brunch, luncheon or supper can be tailored to meet all your culinary tastes and expectations. Our menus promise not only to be a reflection of your every desire but an enhancement of the celebration!

Have your wedding photographs taken out on the front deck with the view behind you or up at " Dad's Little Log Cabin " which has become Stonehame's signature spot for wedding photos!

Wedding Package

Our Wedding Package Rate is $600.00 plus tax which includes rental of the following:

1) Board Room/bar area full-day (wedding day)

2) MacKenzie Room full-day (Rehearsal + Set-up)

3) MacKenzie Room full-day (wedding day)

4) MacKenzie Room half-day (breakfast/gift opening next morning)

Note: This fee includes set-up and clean-up by Stonehame staff plus linens for a maximum of 50 people. Each additional person up to 100 people is $5.00 per person. A candle fee will need to be determined, depending on request.

Stonehame Wedding policies:

1. All rooms in the Lodge (5 rooms) and Rock Maple Retreat (12 rooms) must be booked for the wedding night if a reception is being held. Payment for any of the 17 rooms that are not booked is the responsibility of the bride and groom.

2. All food and beverage consumed in the main lodge must be purchased through, prepared and served by Stonehame.

3. A 25% deposit is required upon confirmation and is non-refundable. Menu details, accommodations and number of guests must be finalized no later than 14 days prior to the date of the function, with the exception of the lodge and retreat rooms. Cancellation of a function which includes food must be done no later than 30 days prior to the date of the function, or full payment is required.

4. The MacKenzie Room and main part of lodge front deck are licensed and as such, liquor is not permitted in these areas unless it is purchased from the bar. Guests are permitted to consume liquor in their rooms but cannot take it into the main part of the lodge.
