Property Information
Prairie's End is a weathered, 100 year old barn moved to Wyoming from Ontario, and converted to an open, sunlit house with a lofty aura. The house faces the Tetons, and its wide windows embrace the view. Inside, sun gilds, the heart pine floors, the massive, rough hewn, beams are like the pillars and trusses of a rustic sanctuary. The heart of the house is a long, two story great room, anchored by a stone fireplace and sitiing area; the dining table occupies the center. Huge twig chandeliers hang from the high ceilings. A bridge crosses the open space of the great room to connect the two sides of the top floors.
Prairie's End feels both old and modern, rustic and luxurious; it is a house full of color and light. There are leather couches, saffron walls, rural antiques, rough wood wainscoting, vivid oil paintings and striking sculptures. The kitchen, with a Wolf four-burner gas range, is off to one side of the great room. A covered porch and open deck extend from the kitchen's French doors for outdoor dining, entertaining and the simple enjoyment of the extravagant view. A library sits to the other side of the great room, while upstairs is a small, well-equipped office.
Inside the main house are three bedrooms and a sleeping loft. A guest room is on the ground floor, with a queen-size bed and private bath; the rest are upstairs. The master has a king four-poster bed spread with a hand-blocked quilt; a gas fireplace warms the room, and a grandfather clock chimes the hours. The stone-floored master bathroom has a rainfall shower, a jetted tub and double sinks. The upstairs guest bedroom has a queen bed and its own bathroom. An old hay loft is now a warm and welcoming room set high in the house, with twin beds and a second sleeping area with a pull-out courch and TV.
Tucked at the side of Prairie's End is a romantic 1850s, one-bedroom cabin moved to its spectacular spot from West Virginia. The guest cabin is entirely up-to-date, with a full bath upstairs, and a sitting area with a wood stove downstairs, next to a tidy little kitchen. The little cabin seems rooted in its grassy setting looking over the long green valley to the Tetons. Moose, coyote, elk, eagle and fox cross the great valley, the mountains skim the gib starry sky. There are endless opportunities for skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, and fishing around Paririe's End, and the vibrant town of Jackson is just a short drive away.
