Property Information
In a grassy meadow between the Grand Tetons and the Snake River, a handsome stone and log house stands above a clear pond. Two original 19th century homesteads are joined to an airy, central stone structure by glass-walled "bridges" to make Eagle's Nest, a house perfectly at home in its wild surroundings, at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac. Noted architect Jonathan Foote used reclaimed timbers, stacked stone, huge windows and old wide-plank fir floors to give Eagle's Nest a feeling of western expansiveness and quiet charm. The heart of the house is the high-ceilinged great room, which serves as both living room and dining room. A comfortable seating area faces a layered stone fireplace. The dining table sits under a wide window at one end of the great room, and a restored 1880s Brunswick billiards table is at the other. A telescope salvaged from a World War 11 Japanese submarine is positioned to gaze out upon the tip of the Grand.
The efficient gourmet kitchen is well-suited to entertaining, or cooking for groups - a Thermador double oven, a six-burner stovetop, a deep sink, a large Sub Zero refrigerator/freezer, and long, polished counters provide plentry of work and conversation space. The kitchen has its own decadently comfortable family room, with a leather armchair and couch facing a stacked stone fireplace and a big flat-screen TV. Two sides of the room open to the outside - one to the kitchen garden, the grill and the picnic table; the other to a grassy courtyard and long, unobstructed views. Eagle's Nest is a study in rustic elegance; every room has been beautifully furnished and decorated by its owner; every room has been beautifully furnished and decorated by its owner.
Eagle's Nest unfolds from the great room. The sumptuous master suite is in a wing of its own, connected to the main house by a glass-walled corridor, which spans a little stream. At the foot of the king bed, an impossibly long window displays the entire Teton Range, every peak a stunning height. The master suite has two separate baths - one cozy and log-walled, the other brimming with light from the windows over the antique soaking tub; each has a big walk-in closet. A private sitting room with a fireplace and porch is just off of the bedroom, and up a short flight of stairs are an office and an alcove with built-in twin beds.
There are four guest bedrooms, each with its own delights. A second windowed corridor leads to a guest wing with two bedrooms, two baths and a fire lit sitting room whose windows hold a panorama of meadow and mountains. Outside are a private porch and a courtyard. The junior suite is accessed from the great room up a spiral rock stair-case, and has its own wood-burning fireplace. The final bedroom is above the garage, connected to the main house by a traditional covered walkway, and this private studio enclave has a full bath and kitchen, and a queen bed. The bedrooms all have wonderful views, for the landscape is gorgeous in every direction; in winter sunrise and sunset pink the snow, and the rosy self-light fills the rooms of Eagle's Nest. Outside, the snowy meadow is crosshatched with tracks; coyote and moose, elk and fox, and the long exploratory arcs of ski and snowshoe trails.
In summer, the meadow around Eagle's Nest blooms with wildflowers, and an herb garden thrives behind the house. Eagle's Nest is surrounded by tumbling blue ribbon trout streams that weave around and under the house and feed the famous Crescent H waters. River willows bend over the streams, trailing their branches among the fish and pebbles. Moose often visit the property; and a patient observer at Eagle's Nest's big windows can watch them browse, majestic and strange, amount the willows. Ten private acres encircle the house, and yet Wilson, Jackson and Teton Village are just a short drive away. After a day's adventuring, it is a true pleasure to return to the warm lighted refuge of Eagle's Nest.
