Property Information
Catamount is a marvelous house built into a hillside of boulders and bright western wildflowers, surrounded by trees and the Wyoming mountains. Its big, paneled front door opens onto a quiet cul-de-sac in Granite Ridge; and from there it is just a short walk to Grand Teton National Park and the Granite Ridge ski lift, Teton Village and the Four Seasons hotel. A full set of table linens, china, crystal and flatware are at hand, and the dining room will easily seat ten. Catamount's second-floor kitchen has a big gas stove, Sub-Zero fridge, granite countertops and an array of gourmet cooking equipment.
The second floor of the Catamount is also the main living and dining area. Just up, an art-filled staircase from the entryway, the great room is divided by back-to-back river stone fireplaces that stretch up to cathedral ceilings. Tall windows frame the trees outside - seasonal art in themselves, ablaze with color or garlanded in snow. French doors open to an outdoor living area with willow chairs, a dining table and a spectacular view. And next to the dining room, there is a sunroom where the flowered hillside fills the windows like a painting.
Catamount has five distinctive, comfortable bedrooms, five and a half bathrooms, and every modern convenience. Throughout the day, golden light fills Catamount's high-ceilinged rooms, and there is a constant feeling of alpine spaciousness and peace. The second floor holds the house's two biggest bedrooms, both with rough-hewn, log frame king beds and private baths. A fully-equipped laundry room is also on this level, and everywhere you turn there are quiet alcoves with comfortable chairs, reading lights, and game tables. A porch under the eaves sits just above the front door.
Catamount's other three bedrooms, a game room and media center are on the first floor. Two rooms have a twin bed and a bunk bed set each; the other guest room can be set up with a king bed or two twins. There are three full bathrooms here, one with a steam shower. The first floor is also where guests will find some of the home's great diversions; a game room, and a media center with television and stereo.
A thoughtful, attentive owner and a well-known designer have made Catamount into a marvelous, hospitable vacation home. The house fits organically with the mountain landscape all around it, its log frame and peaked roofs brushed by high pine boughs - and outdoor living is celebrated. Beyond the kitchen is a deck with a gas grill for open air cooking; and outside the sunroom, a hot tub on its own private porch.
A mudroom with lockers is ready to store boots, skis and snowshoes, and from here the back door opens onto the vast Wyoming wilderness. Catamount is a charming, personal and welcoming house that feels very much like home.
