Welcome to beautiful Lake Wisconsin! With 9500 acres and 57 miles of scenic shoreline, Lake Wisconsin is a favorite spot for fishing, boating, and peaceful vacationing.
A brief history: Lake Wisconsin is part of the Wisconsin River system and was created by the Prairie Du Sac dam completed in 1924. Construction of the dam, which began in 1915, took almost ten years to complete. The Merrimac Ferry (which is located 1.5 miles from The Cabin) started in 1844 before Wisconsin became a state and was run by the second settler in the village of Merrimac, Chester Mattson. After the creation of Lake Wisconsin in 1924, the surrounding counties of Columbia and Sauk took over the ferry and made it free to the public. The ferry runs 24 hours a day when the lake is not frozen, and the mile long trip takes about ten minutes.
