Papa’s Casa is a two bedroom, two bath condominium with a kitchen, dining nook, living room and beautifully renovated patio with cooling pool overlooking the Pacific. This unique condo has full marble flooring and is cool and comfortable even on warm days.
Property Activities
POOLS: There are two pools available to you.
The Condo pool lies at the western side of the building overlooking the Pacific Ocean. There is a little bar and restaurant there and you can also get things like guacamole, Pico de Gallo and ceviche to go if you would like to enjoy them in the condo. You can rent a pool towel at the office for 15 pesos.
The Las Hadas Hotel Pool is available for your use. This lovely pool with water falls and islands is located toward the hotel, just up from the marina area.
GOLF:
La Mantarraya Golf course designed by Pete and Roy Dye. This 18 hole, par 71 course is considered among the most magnificent courses in the world. Call the pro shop by dialing 0=(outside line) 331-0101 for a tee time. Walk along the beach up the paved trail next to Karmina Palace then follow the cobblestone road to your right.
TENNIS:
There are 10-lighted courts right next to the golf course. Again, call 0-331-0101 to set a court time. They also rent racquets.
BEACHES:
The beach at Las Hadas is sheltered and very pleasant. There are a variety of water activities available at the cabana on the west end of the beach.
If you like more surf, try the Miramar beach a few miles north of Santiago, it is located across from Club Maeva. This is a very popular beach for the locals and you can sunbathe, bargain with vendors and eat fresh grilled fish at the few restaurants that dot the shoreline. The also rent boogie boards, horses and jet ski’s.
If you are more adventurous and rent a car, there are many lovely beaches as you travel north.
La Boquita Beach is a little farther north and has less surf, it is a great beach for little kids.
WATERSPORTS:
On the Las Hadas beach (as well as the beaches at La Boquita) near MiraMar and Club Santiago, you can rent kayaks, jet skis, paddleboats and wind surfers.
You’ll see the boat Explorer moored in the Marina. There are a variety of activities offered by this boat – snorkeling, dancing, coastal cruises and sunset cruise. Inquire at the little white tent on the beach or at the concierge in the hotel.
DEEP SEA FISHING:
Manzanillo is the Deep Sea Fishing Capitol of the Pacific. This is very popular and the best way to get the inside scoop on who is going charters is to hang out at the Marina office (right along the Marina directly below the condo)
SAILING:
There are also sailboats that will take daily charters. Again, check at the marina office or the concierge at the hotel.
SNORKELING:
Scuba and snorkeling tours can be arranged through Pacifico Water Sports (314) 331-0101 ext. 3804, hector_pacifico@hotmail.com and is located next to Marias on the road to Las Hadas. If you have your own equipment, go to the beach at the farthest end of Club Santiago where there is a sunken ship within 40 yards of shore. When you are done be sure to stop for a fresh fish lunch under a palapa on the beach.
SUNSET CRUISES:
Inquire at the concierge in the hotel – cruise is usually scheduled for Wednesday a nights.
HORSEBACK RIDING:
You can rent horses just to the north of Club Maeva where the road takes a sharp right turn (on the right side of the road). You can also rent horses right on the Miramar Beach across from Club Maeva.
MUSEUM OF ARCHEOLOGY & HISTORY:
Opened in 1996, this facility displays the region’s history plus a changing exposition of important Mexican painters.
SHOPPING:
Las Primaveras
Located in Santiago, they have pottery, glassware, basketry, silver jewelry and various Mexican items.
Maria Cumbe'
Mexican attire for senoritas.
Flea Market
Along the MiraMar/La Boquita beach (across from Club Maeva). These are somewhat enclosed vendor stalls where you can buy a variety of things, including bartering for silver jewelry.
Saturday Market in Santiago
Traditional market with great variety and great people watching.
Downtown Manzanillo
Little shops along the road for souvenirs.
Shopping for Food
There are two grocery stores, the Commercial and Soriana. Here you can purchase almost anything for your meals in Papa’s Casa. The Commercial is a short taxi ride or a pleasant ˝ hour walk.
ADVENTURES:
Colima
This is the state capitol. It has a beautiful central square and a variety of shops. This is also where one of the most active volcanoes in the world sputters and smokes. Vulcan de Fuego.
Tampumachay Recreational Center, located in the town of Los Ortices. In that place there are three tombs conditioned and open to the public, which present the draft or tunnel, the original vaults, and a number of stone vessels and tools as offerings to the dead placed inside each.
El Salto
“The Jump” waterfalls, deep river – pool and children’s play areas. Just past iron miners town of Pena Colorado, turn right on to x ˝ mile cobblestone road down to. This is a beautiful waterfall in the jungle with a great swimming hole and picnic spot. About 45 minutes on the road to Minatitlan.
Valcan de Fuego (Colima Volcano)
It is considered Mexico most active volcano. You can see it from Colima or you can drive up to an observation deck and restaurant.
Barra de Navidad
This is a little fishing village you can reach either by taxi or rental card (about 1 - 1 ˝ hours north). Many artisans sell their wares and you can enjoy fish caught that day on an open wood fire at one of the local restaurants.
