Veselka Beach House
Have you ever imagined yourself relaxing, Caribbean cocktail in hand, on the veranda of your home overlooking a coral lagoon of extraordinary natural beauty?
Now you can. Veselka, meaning "Rainbow", is a newly built residence now available as a vacation home to the discerning public. Standing on a unique promontory in Double Bay the house benefits from unobstructed views, refreshing sea breezes and direct access to miles of deserted beach. The owners and builders of this superb house, Kingsley and Marta, have blended the home into the surrounding countryside with great skill, all rainwater is saved in underground tanks and solar power augments mains electricity. The idea is to live a that respects and replenishes natural resources. With several young children of their own, Kingsley and Marta have produced a comfortable family friendly house in a wonderful setting with fantastic views. The great swimming and snorkelling helps with entertainment.
The house......
The house has an open floor plan that is airy and takes advantage of the sea views. There is an unconverted attic area that has been largely left open so as to maximise the effect of cooling breezes.
Veselka is an idyllic vacation cottage situated on a bluff at the northern end of Double Bay, Eleuthera, Bahamas. The name Veselka means "rainbow" which reflects the bright colours you will find in Eleuthera. If you want a vacation home with fabulous ocean views from every room and the ability to walk directly from the deck to the beach, Veselka is the place for you.
It is an eco-friendly house. Although it is new, the house is nestled right in amongst palmettos (some very old), one of which is part of the wrap-around deck, and every attempt was made to minimize the disturbance to the surrounding vegetation and wildlife. Indeed the path leading up to the house is a firm sand road. Although connected to the main grid, the house has solar panels with a back-up battery system. The water supply is from a large rainwater cistern which is part of the basement.
The beach in front of the house is one of the best in Eleuthera. The sand is very fine in texture and has a pink shade to it. Depending on the wind and currents, the sand can shift around sometimes exposing a rocky ledge in front and to the left. If you have small children, this is actually a benefit since the ledge acts as a natural pond allowing toddlers to explore in safety. If you walk about 200 feet south along the beach there is always a sandy access to the sea.
The coral is quite good, even close in, and we recommend that you bring your own snorkelling equipment. The walks along the beach south to Double Bay and north up to Palmetto Point are lovely, especially in the morning and evening when it is a bit cooler. Look for frigate birds in the evening - they look like miniature pterodactyls.
Eleuthera is a sparsely populated tropical island. In my opinion it is has currently achieved the perfect vacation balance; on the one hand it is generally an unspoiled natural paradise, and yet on the other has just enough development and infrastructure to allow a comfortable existence. I hope it stays that way.
There are many things to do on Eleuthera depending on your mood. A car will allow to explore the island and go to places such as Spanish Wells right up north, or Rock Sound further down south. You can drop in on many beaches along the way such as Jack's Bay where if you are lucky you may find turtles. Other bays (almost always empty) may surprise you with dolphins - don't forget to take your snorkelling gear with you!

A 50% deposit is required to hold reservation. The final payment plus $300 refundable security deposit is due 60 days prior to arrival.

Full refund if written notice is given 60 days prior to arrival.

Living/dining area :
There is a large solid wood dining table with eight chairs. In the living area there is a large sofa and 2 easy chairs. French doors lead out onto the 8' deep front deck, where, if you like, you can enjoy breakfast, lunch or dinner. The sofa sits in an alcove facing out to the Atlantic where you can sit on lie down to relax and maybe read a book, perhaps from the small but eclectic house collection.
Bedrooms :
There are two bedrooms, both with queen size beds. The master bedroom has its own bathroom and the guest bedroom shares a bathroom with the rest of the house. They both have cathedral ceilings, fans, and walk-in closets.
The master bedroom now has a split A/C unit which is very quiet (the compressor is outside under the deck).
Kitchen :
The kitchen is separated from the living area by countertop only so the cooks are not separated from the action. It is a fully equipped kitchen with a gas oven and range. All the storage space is under counter giving a clean open look.
Amenities include a microwave, coffeemaker, toaster and blender. The undercounter fridge has a freezer section for ice.
There is a front-loading environmentally friendly washing machine (it uses one fifth the water and one third the energy of a standard washer) in the utility room.
Decks :
The main level deck is a large affair, stretching all the way around the house allowing one to find the breeze wherever it is. There are three upper decks, one at the front of the house (east), and one on each side (north and south), and they are there to give shade. There is an upper deck facing the sea which currently serves as shade for the bottom deck. At the moment it cannot be accessed. There are 2 small decks above each of the dormers which are also currently used for shade (and inaccessible as of now).
