Perched atop a bluff overlooking Chester Valley green, historic Anchorage Mahogany Manor Bed and Breakfast continues to charm visitors with its unique blend of comfort and elegance. Designed for entertaining and social events, your accommodations were the venue for numerous gala affairs for prominent Alaskans and visiting dignitaries during the 1960's and 70's.
The facility boasts over 2000 square feet of richly appointed lounge area, two grand fireplaces (one of which is a 200 cubic foot copper hooded fire pit), numerous waterfalls, outdoor whirlpool swim spa and impressive panoramic views of the surrounding forest, city and mountains through its floor-to-ceiling windows. Add to this the convenient location at the edge of downtown Anchorage (merely a few blocks from city center) and you have the perfect lodging choice for a memorable Alaskan experience.
Built in the early 1950's, Mahogany Manor was the largest private residence in Anchorage until the middle 1970's. Owing its name to the mahogany siding which adorns the structure, this manor house is constructed of rare woods and other unique materials. Inside you will enjoy a long list of tantalizing features including a rich redwood interior, an extensive collection of museum quality Alaskan art, two grand fireplaces, numerous waterfalls, a floating spiral staircase, and impressive panoramas of the surrounding grounds, city and mountains through a series of floor to ceiling windows.
Take in the view by strolling along one of the multiple large decks, each offering a different view of the surrounding grounds. Enjoy the heavily wooded forest with white birch and evergreen trees, all of which can be enjoyed while relaxing in the 19-foot whirlpool/swim spa.
EXTEMDED STAY CORPORATE RENTALS are clean, comfortable and conveniently located in downtown Anchorage. They have been renovated recently and individually and tastefully decorated so you feel like you are coming "home". Every detail has been handled so you only need to unpack your clothes and stock the refrigerator, giving you more time to work, sightsee or enjoy the amenities of your new home.
The Extended stay units are located in 2 separate small secure buildings only a short 5 minute walk from the bed and breakfast, so we are very closeby if you need us. Each unit has a private phone line and WiFi access. There are hair dryers in the bath as well as iron & ironing board, vacuum, fan in summer, cable TV with VCR and/or DVD and HBO, clock for each permanent bed, ample lighting and a writing surface or desk. The kitchens are well equipped with standard appliances and others you may prefer could be available for use or rent during your stay.
One free off-street parking space is available for each apartment. Laundry facilities are available in some units and there is a coin-op laundry facility in each building. The city bus is nearby and city center is about a 20-30 minute easy walk.

Each guestroom at Anchorage Mahogany Manor Bed & Breakfast is unique, private and comfortable, and your lodging accommodations offer private bath rooms. We pamper you with all the amenities of home in each room including extra blankets and pillows, robes, slippers, hair dryer, make-up mirror, iron and ironing board, high-speed internet, telephone, cable TV and VCR (DVD player in some rooms), clock radio with relaxing nature sounds option, abundant lighting and a writing surface. Each bedroom is also equipped with top down blinds to offer you maximum privacy while affording you the enchanting vistas that surround the manor. In winter, guest accommodations have a view of the city skyline or mountains. In summer, views are of the estate's private forest.
Self catered extended stay apartments are lovely and have been recently renovated. Choose from studio, 1 and 2 bedroom units. You will find all the comforts of home including abundant kitchen supplies, linens, very nice furnishings as well as phone, cable TV w/VCR and/or DVD and HBO, hair dryer, clock, radio, WiFi, free off-street parking and laundry in unit or on site.
Our location for B&B and vacation rental units is downtown near 15th & Cordova. City bus is within 2-4 blocks depending on destination and direction. City center is 8-15 short walking blocks. Many shops, restaurants and sightseeing opportunities are in city center area.
Governor's Suite
This is a large three-room apartment style suite with 2 private bedrooms, one with a queen bed, one with a double bed. You'll enjoy a spacious common sitting area which is furnished with a table, chairs, sofa and large screen cable TV with VCR. The huge private deck overlooks the whirlpool swim spa below. A private ceramic tile bath has a shower and double vanity. There is an ample supply of closet space and counter tops. Your suite common area has a wall of sliding glass doors on the south side that overlooks your private forest. To the north, a wall of windows overlooks the courtyard with an abundance of trees and raised flower beds during the growing season. There is also a great view of the downtown skyline year round. The Governor's Suite is located on the main level with the guest kitchen and entry area nearby and is accessible without stairs. Summer rates begin at $309.00 per night for up to 4 guests. Winter rates begin at $179.00 for one bedroom and 2 guests.
The Iditarod Room
The Iditarod room is light and bright decorated with pictures and information about the famous Iditarod Championship Sled Dog Race. The large picture window overlooks the courtyard and downtown skyline. The 2-room private bath offers a shower and toilet in one room with a sink and mirror in an adjacent area. This room is furnished with a king bed (or 2 twin beds upon request) and can also accommodate a roll away at an extra charge. You will overlook the courtyard with an abundance of trees and raised colorful flowerbeds in summer and a wonderful view of the downtown skyline year round. The Iditarod Room is located on the main level with the guest kitchen and entry area nearby and is accessible without stairs.
The Cabin and Audubon Room
The Cabin and Audubon rooms offer quiet seclusion on the lower level boasting views of our private forest from 2 walls of windows. They are quite different in appearance and equally wonderful in warmth and coziness. One offers a warm wood interior and the other offers a light and bright ambiance. Access to the Cabin room is down the floating, solid oak spiral staircase (14 steps) and through the PUFFIN PARLOR, while the Audubon has a private entrance from an outside deck. Each of these guest rooms has a lovely private bath with tub and shower. As Mahogany Manor is located on a bluff with dense surrounding woodlands, the location of this rooms makes them private and cozy hideaways. In winter you'll enjoy a clear view of the mountains and midtown Anchorage skyline. During the summer when our dense trees are in full bloom, there is a scant view of the mountains.
Extended stay, self catered apartments
All apartments with full kitchen have a full size refrigerator, 4 burner stove, sink, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, mixer, Brita pitcher (filters available for purchase), enough dishes for 4 to 8 settings (depending on size unit), assorted cookware, storage containers and much more.
Laundry facilities are available in some units. All units have access to an onsite coin-op laundry room. There is one free off-street parking space for each unit for a car or van. Parking for motor homes is available at no charge about 2 blocks from apartments.
Studio
We offer studio apartments with full kitchens. You will find everything you need for a comfortable home away from home. Ample dishes, silver and pans in the kitchen as well as a table and chairs for a pleasant dining experience. The combined bedroom/sitting area offers a queen bed and double Murphy bed, easy or rocking chair, desk and TV. There is a full bath with tub/shower combo with soap/shampoo dispenser. One Studio is quite elegant and has a mini kitchen including a refrigerator, microwave, toaster, coffee maker and a few dishes. It is furnished with queen bed, trundle bed (2 twins), small table & chairs and desk. The bath has a shower with soap/shampoo dispenser. This unit has a washer/dryer shared with one other unit.
Rates for summer begin at $145 with a 3 night minimum stay. Winter rates begin at $65 with a 4 night minimum stay. Weekly rates begin at $870/summer and $350/winter and monthly rates begin at $2985/summer and $1095/winter
One bedroom apartments
One bedroom apartments offer a queen bed in the bedroom, full bath with tub/shower combo and full kitchens with dishwashers as well as all the standard appliances and accessories.
One is larger and has a table and chairs in the dining area, lush sofa in the living room, comfy chair, desk and TV in the living room. This unit can accommodate a roll-away in the living room and offers ample closet space.
The other one bedroom has a small table in the kitchen area, a queen sofa-bed in the living room as well as a desk. It boasts a view of the mountains in winter and in summer a scant view through the trees. It is a prime location during Fur Rondy and Iditarod week as there is an unobstructed view of the dog sleds passing by outside. This unit has a washer/dryer shared with one other unit.
One bedroom summer rates begin at $160/daily (3 night minimum), $960/weekly, $3295/monthly and winter rates begin at $76/daily (4 night minimum), $400/weekly, $1295/monthly.
Two bedroom apartments
Two bedroom units offer a king bed in the larger bedroom and queen or 2 twin beds in the smaller bedroom. The living room is large and is furnished with a sofa and love seat, book case, dining table and chairs and desk. One unit has a double futon. The living room can accommodate a roll-away.
