Imagine you and your family have just pulled into this private mountain cabin on a snowy day, just as the sun is setting over the surrounding mountains. You've been out enjoying the snow, but you're now ready to warm up.
The fires inside have the interior warmed to that perfect cozy temperature, and there's a pot of hot chocolate on the stove just waiting to warm you all up from the inside.
It's like stepping back in time 70 years to a more peaceful time; the stresses of the outside world are forgotten.
The Glade Cabin at Brooks Lake is just a short 45 minute drive from the Jackson Hole Airport, and just 25 minutes from the scenic western town of Dubois.
This historic cabin was built in 1941 by Swedish "Tiehackers" (makers of railroad ties) who really knew how to work with logs. Using a technique now referred to as "Swedish Cope", each log was scribed and worked by hand to fit against the log beneath. It's a pain-staking and laborious technique that results in an extremely tight structure; so tight in fact that after nearly 70 years, you still have a difficult time finding gaps large enough to insert a dollar bill.
The cabin itself sits in the Shoshone National Forest just six miles east of the continental divide (Togwotee Pass). It's elevation is 8,600 feet above sea level, so summers here have a tendency to come late and leave early. Even in mid-July you'll see the snow tucked into the crevices of the adjacent peaks.
The natural beauty of this setting is astounding, and it's been featured as a backdrop in several Hollywood productions. This is an area frequented by Wyoming locals while less knowledgeable visitors flock to the more famous nearby sites. You'll be right next door to these sites, but you won't feel overwhelmed by other vacationers.
