The Small Hope Bay Lodge is an informal ALL INCLUSIVE holiday resort located on Andros Island, Bahamas that focuses around the central lodge built of coral rock and Andros pine. Comfortable couches and throw-pillows create a friendly home-like atmosphere. The Lodge houses a dining area, lounge/bar area, game room and reading room. Our friendly relaxed atmosphere makes this not your typical Bahamas hotel.
There is also a small boutique on the premises, a separate building for office administration and guest services and a staffed laundry facility. There is an outdoor patio bar and dining area for summer-night barbecues.
There are no phones (phone/fax/internet for guest use in the office), no newspapers, and no TVs in the rooms. Free calls to the US and Canada and FREE WIFI, wireless internet service is available in our lounge area during the day but is shut off during dinner/social hours at night. Emphasis is on a natural environment with relaxing, low-impact lifestyle. There is no dress code -- bare feet, T-shirts, sarongs, anything (except neckties) is acceptable.
Rooms:
Twenty-one rooms in cottages located directly on the beach, each handbuilt of coral rock and Andros Pine with overhead ceiling fans (half with a/c), locally made furniture, decorated in Androsia Batik fabrics, and all with a view of the sea. Each has private toilet/shower facilities and is fully tiled. King-size beds and single beds are available. There are four two-bedroom cottages for families, as well as a special "honeymoon cottage." All are shaded by palms and located on the Bay. To the north of the cottages is a separate secluded swimming beach.
The Owners:
Small Hope Bay was built by Dick Birch, who left the snows of Canada for a new way of life. Dick opened Small Hope Bay Lodge in 1960 with four cottages and started a diving legend. His record for deep diving on compressed air to 462 feet remains unbroken. Serving people was very important to Dick Birch and this quality is instilled in all of the family and staff of Small Hope Bay Lodge.
Many great names, from prime ministers to photographers, learned to dive at Small Hope Bay. The Birch Family continues to operate Small Hope Bay Lodge as a small hotel with just 21 rooms in cottages on the beach.

We have several packages for vacationers, scuba divers, snorkelers, weddings and honeymoons. We also offer snorkeling, scuba diving, and fishing a la carte. All of our rates include:

Dive packages include all the inclusions of the Non-Diver / Vacationer rate, plus three dives a day and use of tanks, weights and belt. Night dives (six divers minimum) are offered twice weekly and one free night dive is included for divers on seven-night dive package (weather permitting). Dive boats go out twice daily, for two-tank dive in the morning and one tank dive in the afternoon (weather permitting). Divemaster/Instructor plans and accompanies all dives.
The Dive package virtually gives you your afternoon dive for FREE.
Dive packages may be configured for any length of stay.
On stays up to seven nights, all nights must be at Dive Package Rate except final night, when rate reverts back to Daily Non-Diver / Vacationer Rate.
On stays of more than seven nights, guests may combine Non-Diver / Vacationer Rates with Dive Package Rates, as long as at least six nights are on Dive Package.
Snorkeling Packages
Snorkeling packages include daily boat trips to the reef (weather permitting: 2-4 persons minimum), and of course, snorkeling trails from shore.
To configure for snorkel packages, multiply number of nights by the daily Snorkel Package rate, except final night, when rate reverts back to Daily Non-Snorkel Rate.
Adult Rates
Adult rate based on per person double occupancy. Single travelers have the option of enjoying a private bedroom with a share bath in a two bedroom cottage, or paying a $95 a night surcharge for private bedroom with a private bath.
Children:
Except during months of June, July and August, children must be with two full paying adults to qualify for rate.
ChildrenS dinner policy: children 7yrs and under eat evening dinner meal at Kids table in Game Room. Complimentary babysitting is provided from 6:00 pm to 8:45 pm for 2-7 year olds. Individual sitters for those children under 2 years are arranged at a rate of $6 per hour
Your preteen kids can eat in the games room if they like, it is your choice.
We have a limited number of two bedroom cottages for families with children. Cribs and extra cots available at no extra charge. These are designed for 2 Adults and 2 or 3 Children. If you have 2 Adults and 1 Child and want to stay in a family cottage as opposed to a private room / cottage there is a surcharge of $95 per night during our busy seasons.
Resort course instruction and SCUBA certification is available to children ten years and older. SASY equipment (for a surface SCUBA experience) is available to kids 8 years and up.

For cancellations within 2 weeks of your stay, your deposit will be donated. For cancellations with more than 2 weeks notice but less than 60 days, we will hold it for a future stay for you. Cancellations outside of 60 days are fully refundable.

Childrens Dinner Policy- Our policy for kids 7 yrs and under eating DINNER in the "games room" has been a firm policy now for over 43 years and it works. There is a room adjoining the lounge where we provide a COMPLIMENTARY babysitter/activity person to be with them from 6:00pm to 8:45pm to make it fun. It allows kids to be kids and the adults to have some adult time. If you are uncomfortable with this set up you are more than welcome to eat in the games room with your child. There is a small fee for those kids under 2 years as an additional babysitter is brought in to care for your little one.

Activities at Small Hope Bay:
*Biking
Bicycles are free for guest use. Tour the areas surrounding Small Hope Bay Lodge. We have maps and suggested itineraries. The small village of Fresh Creek is a short 20 minute ride to the south. Visit the Androsia Batik Factory. Or bike a few miles north to an inland blue hole for a fresh water swim.
*Birding
We have binoculars, bird lists and great places for viewing.
*Diving and Snorkeling
This is our speciality. We offer three dives a day, night dives, shark dives, and one-on-one Specialty Dives anytime. Plus we offer SCUBA Certifications, Nitrox Certification, SASY equipment for kids, and free SCUBA intro lessons for those who want to try it.
* Guided Island Tours - available at an additional fee to various blue holes, North Andros, and the Androsia Batik Factory Tour.
*Fishing
Bonefishing, reef fishing, deep sea fishing--we can arrange it all!
*Hot Tubbing
On the beach, by the ocean, under the stars!
*Hammocking
One of our favorite activities. If you don't know how this is done, ask one of us to teach you.
*Kayaking
We have four ocean kayaks free for your use, plus some suggested trails to take.
*Nature Trails
We have maps and marked trails and booklets to help you identify the flora you see along the way
*Sailing
We have a "Hobie Cat", an easy-to-use small catamaran sailboat free for use. Pack a lunch and sail out to Goat Cay or down to some secluded beach.
*Snorkeling
Daily trips by boat, special excursions, plus plenty of great snorkeling from shore.
*Sunning in the Solarium
If it's an all-over tan that makes you happy, help yourself to our private tanning area in sunny seclusion.
*Walking
Anytime is a good time to stroll along the beach at Small Hope. It's perfectly safe, day or night. (Take a midnight swim!)
