Perfect for a restful visit for a couple or a vacation for two small families (up to 8). The rates listed are for the original log cabin, two bedrooms and two lofts and a huge great room: sleeping two to eight guests. This retreat home is one-of-a-kind. The original structure was a single-story, octagonal, log cabin built in the 70's. Several stages of add-ons have resulted in a unique architectural flowing pattern which could be considered an absolute "artistic creation!" This is a wonderful Taos home in the tiny hamlet of Arroyo Seco 12 miles from the Taos ski valley and 12 miles from the town of Taos!
This 2,740-square-foot, log/adobe home has three bedrooms, three lofts, and 4.5 baths.
Walking from the main entrance sun/mud room, you come to the Great Room, which is the original log cabin. A beautiful open floor plan including the kitchen/dining area with fireplace, separated by a main stairway supported by a 30-inch cedar tree trunk (and an additional character tree trunk) is the main living/sitting area.
Two baths and the most elaborate laundry room/kitchenette in Taos, New Mexico are also on the first floor. Double glass doors lead out to a raised-story deck and a redwood hot tub (great for star-gazing!).
Up the grand staircase to the second story you find the Master Bedroom with a king-size bed facing a user-friendly wood-burning stove mounted on an elegant Italian-tiled platform.
The custom-crafted private bath offers a double walk-in shower custom tiled with an insert of El Salto Mountain and Taos Mountain. The Master Bedroom has a window seat from which to enjoy the view and an enormous meditation loft that will sleep an additional two guests.
The "Sunset" bedroom has a king-size bed (or three singles) and a private western deck to view astonishing Taos sunsets. The south west stucco/plaster walls are faux painted in a sunset theme to create an environment unparalleled by any other. The attached "Tin" bathroom features a meticulously tiled floor and an original, one-of-a kind, galvanized tin shower with twinkle lights and a deep claw-foot bathtub.
The East bedroom features delightful
unexpected angles and wonderful soothing sounds of the fountain in the small pond during summer months. It has a queen bed; there is a half bath across the hall.
Additional sleeping space is provided in an open loft overlooking the Great Room. This loft has a double-size futon and single bed (otherwise sometimes kept clear as a meditation/yoga room).
French doors open from the Yoga Loft to yet another sunroom/solarium. A very romantic Romeo and Juliette balcony is accessed from this upstairs solarium.
Finally, a favorite place for some to retreat to and snuggle in, is an elevated loft up a traditional southwest kiva ladder.
Enjoy outdoor lazing on your choice of the flagstone patio or the redwood deck. Ski storage is in the Log Cabin entry mudroom.
Our location is the absolute best in the ultimate "retreat" locale. We are toward the end of El Salto Road -- 1.5 miles up a dirt road (virtually the last home. Four-wheel drive is necessary for winter/early spring.
The Taos Lodge is within walking distance of a sacred 60-foot waterfall! The elevation is 8,500 feet; the terrain is Forest/Alpine. Enjoy views of El Salto Mountain over the treetops from the decks.
This property may be rented as the original log cabin only (for up to 8 -- with two bedrooms and 2.5 baths) or the log cabin and the master wing combined -- to accommodate up to 14 guests. (The master wing adds a third bedroom and a large loft, plus a full bathroom -- to bring your bath total to 4.5.
In winter this property is magical amidst the beauty of the snow-tipped, sky-high Ponderosa pines and mixed Juniper and Cedar forest. In summer, a small pond with a fountain encourages you to relax and enjoy the serenity. Several hammocks are slung at the edge of the forest with full view of the yin/yang garden. The micro-climate created by the forest brings the average temperature down five to seven degrees from that of Taos and the desert mesa.
The Big House is far enough away from town lights so that the stars seem only a fingertip away. You'll truly enjoy star-gazing as you soak in the hot tub.
The Taos Lodge is a place for groups up to 14, workshops or extended families to rest and remember for decades. The Log Cabin only is appropriate for single families, or a combination of families up to 8 people. Rates listed are for the Log Cabin only. There is an additional charge to rent the Master Wing to accommodate up to 14 people. The word description walks you through the combination of the two properties. Each is totally separate or easily blended into one unit.
