Dinner at Knik River Lodge
In order to offer you a great dinner without charging you an arm and a leg, dinner at Knik River Lodge is a little out of the ordinary. Inspired by the African safaris we wanted to create a comfortable, elegant yet distinctly outdoor atmosphere. Keeping our not-so-African climate in mind we have designed a nicely decorated (and heated) canvas roof over a rustic wooden frame. The dinner pavillion is elegantly furnished with flowers, candle lanterns and nice silverware. Our cook prepares great Alaskan classics like fresh Copper River red salmon, Kachemak Bay halibut, tender filet mignon and juicy teriyaki chicken. Choose from our selection of appetizers, salads and deserts to complement your meal. No meat? No problem! Several vegetarian choices are available. Enjoy a selection of local microbrews and wines from across the globe with your meal or come up for just a fresh coffee and to enjoy the view and to watch the moose in the lower yard during summer evenings. Or get out the binoculars and watch Dall's sheep and mountain goats on the hillside. Get the Alaskan safari feeling? We offer room service, so you can enjoy your dinner in the privacy of your own cabin. We offer a full menu on Friday, Saturday and Sunday. During the week we have a limited service with family style dining.
Do you prefer a more traditional restaurant? Palmer is only 30 minutes away and a one-hour drive brings you to Anchorage where some of Alaska's finest restaurants welcome you. We'd be happy to make reservations for you! |

Activities
Close to the attractions and activities of Hatchers Pass, Eklutna Lake and Anchorage, there is almost too much to do, so stay for a couple of nights. We’ll make sure you won’t regret it!
Activities
The area is an outdoor paradise. Surrounded by the Chugach and Talkeetna mountains, many of Alaska’s greates hikes are easily accessible. Pioneer Peak, just down the road, offers a challenging dayhike. The Hatchers Pass area boasts great rockclimbing as well as many great trails. Hike to a remote waterfall surrounded by almost vertical granites walls, or follow the wild Little Susitna River to a hanging glacier. Visit a historic goldmine or raft down the sceninc Eagle River.
Staying for a few days? Good, we have more! Visit spectacular Eklutna Lake and the native village and burial grounds. Bike along the lake or go search for Dall Sheep high on the mountains. We can also point you to a good game of golf or a fishing hotspot.
Our favorite attraction however is right in our backyard: the manificent Knik Glacier is located just around the corner. Accessible only by airboat or plane, we can take you right up to the face of the 6-mile wide glacier. Spend some time in this wild area and hear the ice crack and moan. If you’re lucky icebergs calve into the lake. To paddle among the icebergs is a really ‘cool’ experience!
Knik Glacier Trip
A 5 minute drive will take you to Huner Creek Adventures operating 3 airboat shuttles daily to Glacier Camp. Begin with a ten minute van ride down to the river. Here you will get a great view of the Knik Glacier and your guide will help educate you on local flora and fauna. Even 5 miles away the glacier looks huge! The Knik Glacier is over 6 miles wide, twenty eight miles long and in places a thousand feet thick. The ice can be over a million years old. Sit back and enjoy the unique ride of the airboat as you glide up river, maneuvering around icebergs and watching for wildlife. Enjoy some of Alaska's most breath taking scenery. One half hour later and you are at the glaciers' face in a land that time forgot. Go ashore and take a stroll along the glacial lake where giant icebergs calve of the face of the glacier. Explore the new land where the glacier recently retreated and gave way to sturdy Dryas plants. As time passes the Dryas give way to fireweed and willow, it is like walking in a geology lesson! Grab a chair and relax with a hot drink or a soda in Glacier Camp. Your guide will provide snacks and share his knowledge of the area and year-round life in this remarkable piece of wilderness. Tours take 3-4 hours each total including approx. 2 hours at the glacier. Price: only $99 per person (2 person minimum) |
