Property Description

Nestled on the northeastern slopes of Grandfather Mountain, the log cabin home sits on a beautiful 1.3 acre lot that is set back from the road.  You’ll enter through a tranquil archway of trees, and you’ll be delighted by the beautiful views and backyard oasis that awaits once you explore the property. The private, secure, and gated community is bounded on one side by Grandfather Mountain and on the other by Julian Price Memorial Park and the Blue Ridge Parkway. Just minutes from downtown Boone, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, Linville, and the Parkway, the location is convenient to golf resorts, shopping, Appalachian State University, Tweetsie Railroad, fine restaurants, ski resorts, horseback riding, fly fishing, and hiking on Grandfather Mountain, Linville Gorge, Pisgah National Forest and the Julian Price and Moses Cone Parks. It's the perfect location for all your favorite High Country activities...including curling up on the screened porch to nap in the hammock.

This cabin has been lovingly cared for by its owners, who regularly update and renovate the property – most recently by transforming the backyard in 2021 with wonderful, new amenities.  Guests will be greeted by a second deck off the lower bedroom, a huge entertaining space centered around a custom-built fire pit, and an open treehouse large enough for adults and children.  The backyard also features gorgeous new landscaping, a tire swing, a secret hiking loop that will delight the children, and a small amphitheater / reading space that is perfect for sketching or simply admiring the surrounding woods.  Custom lighting and railings for the backyard entertaining space are scheduled for installation during the spring of 2022.

The cabin itself has approximately 2,000 square feet on three levels with 2 large, master bedrooms, a sleeping loft, 2 full baths, living room and dining area with vaulted ceilings, a fully equipped kitchen, laundry facilities, wireless internet, and a covered front porch with rocking chairs and a porch swing. The large, rear deck offers year round views of Hawksnest Mountain from the large Jacuzzi-brand hot tub located just outside the master bedroom.

A screened porch off the main living area and adjacent to the open deck is fully furnished with a small table for eating or gaming, as well as Adirondack chairs, director's chairs, a rope hammock, and a hammock chair.

The main living area, beautifully furnished with heart pine floors and a cathedral ceiling, has a large sofa, 2 side chairs, a 40" flat screen LCD television with 250 channels as well as a Roku player, a stereo, a library stocked with paperback and hardback books and hiking/tourist maps and a selection of games and puzzles, a stone wood burning fireplace and a drop leaf game table. As part of the grand room, the dining area's large pine table has seating for 8. The loft has two twin beds and overlooks the main living area.

The upstairs master bedroom has a new queen bed with a Casper mattress. The sitting area in the master bedroom opens to sliding French doors affording a wonderful view of Hawksnest beyond the deck with the hot tub. The lower-level master bedroom features a four-poster  queen bed, a queen sized futon, a sitting area with a TV, a folding game table and chairs, private deck, and private bath. Also on the lower level is the laundry facility. There is a full bath on both the main and lower levels.  Although it is rarely, if ever, needed, both master bedrooms are equipped with new window-unit air conditioners during the summer months.  The fresh mountain breeze keeps the home comfortably cool year-round.

This home was featured in the November 2008 issue of Log Home Design Magazine.

Whether you are looking for an exciting, energetic High Country adventure or are wanting to enjoy the peaceful serenity of a mountain home for a while, Scarborough Fair fits the bill. Come enjoy, relax, and regenerate- you'll be glad you did!

Road access to the cabin is maintained year-round and the driveway is level with a large parking area. The 4,200 foot elevation makes for cool summers and cold, snowy winters, so a 4WD/AWD vehicle is recommended year round, and chains are absolutely required during winter (November-April).
