The cottage is very close to the charming little hamlet of Somerset Village, a mere 10 minutes away. Reserve a day for the wonderful Maritime Museum out at Dockyard on Ireland Island. There you will find meticulously restored historical buildings, craft shops and art galleries, pubs, cafes, shops and fascinating displays of items from Bermuda’s extraordinarily colorful past. A bus-ferry pass would be a good thing to have if mopeds are not your style! The Railway Trail is nearby as well, and offers a peek into Old Bermuda, as the trail takes you past some fascinating old homes and farms with jaw dropping views.
Willowbank Hotel is nearby with its dining facilities and picturesque setting. If you rent a boat, you can tour Cathedral Rocks out at the point and all the charming little islands in the area. You can hop on the bus or walk up Somerset Road to Callaghan Bay or on to Somerset Long Bay for some sand between your toes. The grand beaches at Horseshoe, Warwick Long Bay and Elbow are a short bus or moped ride away and some are serviced public beaches with cafes, beach chair and umbrella rentals available. The Somerset Ferry terminal is half a mile walk away, and there is a scuba diving-bike rental operation there as well. The Railway Trail is very close by for biking and exercising. The local Supermarket is 1 mile away: spirits are sold until 9pm, and groceries can be purchased there until midnight. "Traditions Café"
or the "Country Squire Restaurant" is 5 minutes away, and the "Frog and
Onion Pub" and the "Freeport Restaurant" is 10 minutes away at Dockyard.
Down the South Shore Road heading east and along a winding path is the entrancing Church Bay. With wonderful rock formations offshore for spectacular snorkeling and powder soft sands for children to play in, this beach needs only a picnic and a good book to make it perfect. The much written about Horseshoe Bay and East Whale Bay are five minutes further along the South Shore Road, which is well served by public transit. There are fine restaurants at the Southampton Princess Hotel, the Reefs and at the Waterlot Inn. More casual dining can be had at the Henry VIII, Whaler Inn and Rising Sun restaurants, all within five or six minutes drive. The Southampton Princess Golf Course is five minutes away, as is the Port Royal Golf Course. The Riddell’s Bay Golf Course is 10 minutes away.
