The village of Seewis is located the in Swiss German sector of Switzerland approx. 130 kilometers/ 80 miles east of Zurich. It is set 1,000 meters/3,000 feet in the mountains near many of the most famous world class skiing resourts in the world. Davos, Klosters and Flumserberg, are less than ˝ hour driving distance. The Monarchy of Lichtenstein is 30km/20 miles from the village giving access to Austria within minuites, and Germany less than 80km/60 miles beyond. Many enjoy hiking and mountain biking in the summer, while skiing still remains the favorite for winter visitors. Switzerland remains one of the most beautiful countries in the world. The views are spectacular and the ambiance unique. The various major cities of Bern, Basel, Luzern, and Geneva, to name a few, are still within driving distance hours in any direction .The four official languages of Switzerland are German. French, Italian and Romanch. English, however, remains widely spoken throughout. Switzerland is not part of the EU community, and therefore has retained it Swiss Franc as the official currency.
Life in the village of Seewis is quiet and extremely private. The population is approx 1,500-2,000 inhabitants, many of whom have lived here for generations. There is a small grocery store as well as a post office and total bus and train access. A small hotel and restaurant is also available for visitors. A hospital is located in the valley below as are all major shopping centres. There is virtually no through traffic as Seewis is a typical bedroom community.
The village of Meinfeld is within 10 minuites of Seewis. This is the legendary village where the beloved story of Heidi was originated. The story is known worldwide for it beautiful tale of the little orphan girl and her Grandfather. In Meinfeld you can visit the “Heidi Village” and walk through time as you retrace their steps. Near by, also within 10 minuites of Seewis, is the world renown Town of Bad Ragaz. Here you can enjoy the natural thermal springs of the mountains, perhaps after enjoying a game of Golf on a world class course. www.badragaz.ch Summer sports of all descriptions can be discovered also a few short minuites from Seewis by visiting the Walenstadt area. Advance reservations are highly recommended for all seasons. The popularity of this location is such that we are booked year round. Temperatures vary from 35 degrees celcius in the summer to below freezing in the winter. Because the village is built on the southern slopes of the mountain, the sunny weather has made this village a popular spot for both residents and visitors.
