This beautiful cottage is close to the fabled beaches of the south shore, and to the main city of Hamilton as well. It is near 2 major bus routes for those not comfortable with riding the mopeds. The closest beaches are John Smith's Bay to the east or Elbow Beach to the west (each about 10 minutes drive away by moped).
The cottage is separate from the main house, with a fully equipped kitchen, washer/dryer, air-conditioning, ceiling fan, pullout bed (double size with foam mattress), basic cable, DVD player and a private telephone line. The studio is about 400sq ft – cosy for two people, but you are going to be outdoors most of the time anyway, aren’t you, enjoying the island scenery, the barbecue and the swimming pool , the stars in the evening…
This area has some very interesting scenery nearby: Devonshire Marsh is a wildlife sanctuary- a brackish marsh containing many migratory birds and interesting walks. Just beyond the Marsh is the public Golf Course “Ocean View” with its panoramic vistas of the north shore coastline. Just down the road is the Arboretum with its wonderful collection of unusual plants . The Botanical Gardens are closer to the South Shore and The Premier’s Residence, the magnificent old mansion “Camden” is open for viewing. Beaches would include John Smiths Bay about 10 minutes East of the cottage, or the pretty Devonshire Bay just three or four minutes away and where one can buy fresh fish . Elbow Beach is perhaps 10 minutes away heading west on the South Shore: a magnificent stretch of sand and the first of series of public beaches that stretch west along the fabled South Shore Coast to Southampton Parish, including Warwick Long Bay, Horseshoe bay, Chaplin's Bay and Church Bay, amongst others…
Hamilton offers shopping, dining and evening attractions, as well as excellent public transportation services on both ferry and bus lines from the central depot. Ariel Sands Hotel is nearby with its pretty dining facilities and other good restaurants include Tom Moore's Tavern, the Northrock Pub and The Specialty Inn at Collectors Hill and nice cafes in Flatts village.
There are several parks to explore: Spittal Pond, the Nature Reserve at the Mangrove Lake, Walsingham Nature Reserve and Devils Hole (where you can "catch" fish, eels and turtles of baited lines without hooks). The 1926 Aquarium in Flatts Village with its collection of pretty shops and cafes is fun for children and a fascinating small scale museum and zoo for adults. Verdmont Museum (with a splendid collection of antique furniture, paintings and children's toys dating to the 1700's) and the Crystal Caves with their limestone stalagmites are just a few minutes up South Shore Road. There is a glass blowing studio and the perfume factory nearby as well- and all the rest of the island to discover by bus or moped
Many activities and tours start and terminate in Hamilton. Many boat charters and cruises leave from Hamilton as well. Hamilton is also renowned for its library and the Old Perot’s Post Office, and for City Hall with its galleries filled with exhibitions. Bermuda has a number of excellent commercial art galleries as well as fine custom jewelers, couture clothiers, antiques, china and crystal emporiums, bookstores, internet cafes and so on.
Electricity costs 330 per cent more in Bermuda than in the USA.
