Windswept Ranch is a stunning new property set on fifteen mountain-ringed acres. From every vantage and every room, some of the most wild and beautiful land in America ever seen. Wide terraces wrap around the gabled, five-bedroom house. A clear stream tumbles by; a large swimming and fishing pond reflects the big skies and iconic mountains of Wyoming. The ranch's main house is lined with tall windows framing the sweeping view outside. There is also a massive, double-sided stone fireplace dividing the two story Great Room into living and dining spaces. The first floor even holds a wine room with a small bar and a Steinway grand piano.
A wonderful, gourmet kitchen, with an island stove surrounded by smooth golden stone, has the same breath-taking vistas as the rest of the house. The dining room can easily seat ten, and it is a fine thing to dine by the blazing fire on a cold evening. A sitting room opens to the terrace, where a magnificent stone fireplace warms the air; from here a covered walkway leads to a cozy firepit. Just beyond, the big pond mirrors the mountains and sky. All around are the open plains, the high peaks and the wide Wyoming sky.
The picnic table on the terrace overlooks the swimming and fishing pond. Here, in the pond, you can float with the blue sky wheeling above and reflected below, fingertips skimming the clouds. The terrace's hot tub is roomy and welcoming after a swim or after dinner, with the stars on display and piney mountain air sweeping down over the valley.
Windswept's sunny office is a quiet retreat set away from the goings-on in the main rooms. French doors open to the stone terrace, the shelves are lined with books. On the second floor, there is a game room with a large, u-shaped couch that - as inviting for lounging as it is for spillover sleeping - table hockey, billiards and a big flat-screen TV.
Off the kitchen, but very private, is a rustic, comfortable queen guest bedroom and bathroom. A gas fireplace and a flat screen TV offer atmosphere and entertainment at the touch of a button. Here there are French doors to a private balcony, overlooking the pond and the mountains. The bathroom has a deep soaking tub set under a peaked ceiling, and big windows to let in the light.
Upstairs is the master bedroom with a queen-size bed, a dressing room and private bath. Down the hall are three additional guest bedrooms - two with queen beds, and one with two full, log-frame beds. The three guest bedrooms share two bathrooms. The bathrooms are quite luxurious, with deep tubs, and showers tiled in stone; the scenery outside the windows provides the greatest luxury of all.
Wyoming's best surrounds Windswept Ranch - streams, meadows, lakes, the awe-inspiring Grand Tetons, bears, moose and even an occasional, evanescent wolf haunt the woods and plains. A canoe rests on the edge of the pond, ready to slip into the water. The land around the ranch is paradise for fishermen - the running water and the lakes are clear and clean and full of silver fish, each one a flashing coin to be seized, if you can. There is no better dinner than one you've caught yourself, roasted over the fire on the stone terrace, with the moon looking down. Skiing, snowshoeing, hiking, horseback riding - there are endless adventures right from Windswept's door.
A pretty, well-equipped one-bedroom guest house sits to the side of the main house. It has its own kitchen, living and dining areas; a guest can be completely self-sufficient here. Nearby is a big recreation barn with an indoor skate park. Windswept Ranch feels extraordinarily private and secluded in its magnificent wilderness; and yet Jackson is only ten minutes down the road. Windswept Ranch is a grand retreat for a family or group of friends at any time of the year.
