Located on the hillside overlooking Harrington Sound and Flatts Village
with balconies and an open concept- lots of windows..
Bedrooms : master has King bed, and second bedroom has a double bed. There is a single bed tucked into an alcove in the hall for a child to use.
Apartment is one of three in a triplex.
Smiths Parish is a very desirable location because of the profusion of
scenic side trips one can take in the immediate neighborhood. There are
several wonderful nature reserves to wander through : Spittal Pond, the
Nature Reserve at the Mangrove Lake, Walsingham Nature Reserve and
Devils Hole (where you can "catch" fish, eels and turtles on baited
lines without hooks). Then there is the 1926 Aquarium, Mini Zoo and
Museum (great little gift shop too!) near Flatts Village with its
collection of pretty shops and cafes- Flatts is the village that lies at your feet- the property overlooks it. Nearby is Verdmont Museum (with a splendid
collection of antique furniture and children's toys dating from the
1700's) and the Crystal Caves with their limestone stalagmites
shimmering in the lights reflected off motionless crystal clear water.
All the rest of the island waits to be discovered by bus or moped. The
nearest organized snorkeling operation is in Flatts Village and
snorkeling cruises offered during the season from Hamilton, Dockyard and
St. Georges. Nearest beaches are: Gibbet's Beach in Flatts which is within
walking distance, Shelley Bay- a calm and tranquil North Shore Beach and
John Smith's Bay which is on the South Shore, with deep soft sand,
gentle surf and an excellent swimming and snorkeling beach. Flatts
Village is in walking distance and there you can do a little shopping,
or have a casual meal. The bus stop is just down the hill. Flatts Village
now has a pizzeria, take-out café and a highly regarded Italian restaurant . Nearest
convenience store is Twins Variety on Flatts Hill (which is walking
distance and open early and till late evenings), and Harrington Hundreds
Grocery - 6 minutes on bike overland to the South Shore. The Specialty Inn on South Road at Collectors Hill is a 6 minute moped ride for family style eating in
unpretentious but comfortable surroundings.
Harrington Sound is ringed with gorgeous homes overlooking the placid
waters of the sound. One can snorkel comfortably there or play with the
parasail company that operates in the Sound. There are fine dining
establishments nearby such as the renowned Tom Moore¹s Tavern and the
Swizzle Inn for drinks and snacks. For leisurely tours on your mopeds
exploring the glorious country side of Tuckers Town with its spectacular
homes is always fun. The old town of St. George’s is only 15 minutes away
and well worth a couple of days of happy poking about: many fine
buildings from the 1600’s still stand and include handsome old homes,
museums and churches. Make time to swim at Tobacco Bay and Clearwater
Beach when in the St. Georges area: both are simply lovely.
Hamilton lies 15 minutes heading west and has the bustle of shops and smart cafes for
lunch and early evening dining. Further west are the larger fabled beaches of
the south shore. For these excursions, you will want to pack a picnic
and plenty of sunscreen, sunglasses, a towel and swimsuit and drinks
because the walks along the multitude of beaches that await you will
require suitable provisions!
