These tropical Puerto Rican vacation rentals are home to exotic hideaways, miles of white sandy beaches, mountains and valleys, and many other natural wonders. In addition to the natural splendors you will find yourself surrounded by warm and friendly people. From lush tropical forests like El Junke to bustling cities like San Juan, there's much to see and do here in Puerto Rico. Your vacation rental will give you access to diving, sightseeing, culture, great food and much more.

Puerto Rico, sometimes referred to as the "51st American State", is located between the US Virgin Islands and the Dominican Republic in the southern Caribbean. Known for its incredible beaches, Puerto Rico is also a great spot to enjoy activities like hiking, fishing, scuba diving, wind surfing, parasailing, spelunking, shopping, and many other pastimes that take full advantage of the magnificent history and scenery of this beautiful island.

The beaches in the northwest corner of the “Isla Del Encanto” are undoubtedly the island’s best-kept secret. The blow hole at Jobos Beach entertains the calmer-water-lovers nearer the shore, while the surfers and boogie boarders are taking on the waves that have made Aguadilla a destination spot for surfing aficionados. Crash Boat and Wilderness Beach are also musts to experience. Visitors love their view of Survival Beach while taking a Tropical Trail Ride and hike through the almond groves and cliffs along the northern shore.

Off of the west coast, Mona Island has been called the "Caribbean Galapagos." The island is only accessible by boat, so it is definitely the place for adventurous travelers, scuba divers, and eco-tourists that want to leave the madding crowd (and all creature comforts) far behind. These waters are home to more than 270 species of fish, 60 of them on the reef alone. Other mammals like sea turtles, barracuda, whales, dolphins, and marlins are common visitors. This uninhabited island has miles of white sand beaches, but do not forget to get a camping permit before making the six-hour boat ride to get there. Spelunkers will be in their glory when they see the honeycombed caves, and the largest marine-originated caves in the world.

No one should leave Puerto Rico without going to Rio de Camuy Cave Park. Just the trolly trip through the dense tropical vegetation to get to the mouth of Clara cave is worth the entrance fee. Being awestruck by the stalactites, stalagmites, sinkholes, and the underground river and waterfalls is just par for the course in what is considered the third largest underground cave system in the world.

In addition to having the largest hiking trail system in Puerto Rico, Guajataca Forest contains 186 species of trees and 45 bird species. Guajataca Lake teems with bass and tilapia, among other fish. A “spinning rod” rental service is available to the fishing enthusiasts in the group.

While visiting the world’s largest radar/radio telescope at the Arecibo Observatory, another exciting thing to include on your itinerary is rappelling and “body-rafting” in the icy waters of the Tanamá River. The nearby Cambalache Forest has miles of hiking trails and a 2.2 mile mountain bike trail. The century-old lighthouse that has been restored as a museum and focuses on Arecibo’s heritage is also “vale la pena” to visit.

The bioluminescent bay in La Parguera is second only in splendor to the phosphorescent Mosquito Bay in Vieques. A moonless night is best for taking the nightly boat tour, and watching the glitter and glow of the millions of luminescent dinoflagellates “light up” the water, as it is stirred by the paid-with-your-tips-student swimming around the boat.

The country is a unique blend of Spanish and North American cultures. It has grown from a country once dependent on the cultivation of sugar cane to a rich tourist-based economy set in a highly industrialized society. Baseball and basketball overshadow soccer as pastimes for youths. The pace, however, is unflinchingly Caribbean. The island's breezes calm the spirit and nourish the soul. Vacationing in PR will leave you longing to linger in your dreams of the sea, and memories of Mother Nature's bounty will romance you forever.
