Villa Serena can be your home away from home as it is ours on Roatan in the Bay Islands of Honduras. Experience the serenity of the very long private beach, 110 acres of lush botanical gardens, the music of birds in the sanctuary, and the brightness of the moon and stars. The villa is named "Serena" for the Spanish description of fine, unruffled, peaceful calm. This is what we go to experience during our brief visits. You too can experience luxurious and tranquil ecotourism flavored with coral reef and forest encounters by becoming the guests of Villa Serena. We are full time residents of Roatan and look forward to personally introducing you to our Tropical Paradise. The perfect location for your tropical plantation, beach, diving, snorkeling, or fishing vacation. The producers of "Temptation Island" found this development to be so romantic that England, Germany, Scandinavia, Holland, Portugal and the US filmed versions here for two years. Recently a couple of well know Hollywood stars spent their holiday at this resort.
Resort has full time backup generator.

You too can be a discoverer of Caribbean jewels. The Spanish Caribbean and it's Islas de Bahia (Bay Islands) remain undiscovered jewels of tropical paradise covered in lush forests of fruit trees, beaches, surrounded by spectacular coral reef teeming with sea life and populated by a richly diverse English and Spanish speaking people.
Roatan, the largest of the Bay Islands, is surrounded by Earth's second largest coral barrier reef and National Geographic attributed it has having one of the 10 most beautiful beaches in the world. Roatan could define eclectic. The offerings of restaurant cuisine, outdoor activities, training, accommodations, and scenery are as varied as the people who call the islands home. Towns, villages, developments and homes are as varied as the trees that cover the island, from majestic La Ceiba to petite Coral Trees and showy Birds of Paradise. Roatan still has indigenous deer that are easily seen while touring the island along with Iguana, Monkey La La (Basilisk lizard), and Agouti (bush rabbits). Occasionally one can spot a Boa Constrictor headed into the bush and the homes of the Sumpopo ants are comparable to those of the North American Beaver. There are times of the year that the beaches are alive with crab or the ocean is like radioactive soup from the phosphorescence. There are turtles, dolphins, seahorses, sponges, crabs, and fish to numerous in variety to name whose size and colors are astounding.
Come experience the beauty and uniqueness of this jewel of a Caribbean island for yourself, you won't be disappointed.
Scuba
Scuba Diving ~ you will find some of the best diving in the world here and some of the best dive instructors and dive masters at very competitive prices. The largest concentration of dive operators can be found in West End.
Snorkeling
The snorkeling is every bit as good as the diving and when it is rough on one side of the island it is calm on the other side and the island is just about surrounded by coral reef. In some areas the coral is easier to get to than in others; it come right up to shore at West Bay Beach and that which is further out is magnificent.
Fishing
As you can tell from the photo, the fishing is GREAT! You can hire boatman with nice big dual engine boats and fishing gear to take you outside the reef or to the other islands. Or you can hire boatman with small boats, bring your own gear and fish inside the reef.
Bay Island Airways
Seaplane adventures ~ beautiful! Get a birds eye view of the reef and island. Bob and his daughter Heather are fabulous pilots for a tourist fun flight ($50 per person); Full Island Tour ($180 per person0 double occupancy; or custom charters at $300 per hour. For activities on the island, Bob says this is the best value ~ it sure scored high in my book. Call 011 504 946 5665
Canopy Tours
What GREAT fun! Via a hip harness safely connected to heavy cable, slide through the canopy from treetop platform to treetop. It is more fun and beautiful than any amusement park ride I've encountered. Take lots of water. There is one on the road from French Harbor to Palmetto Bay; one on the West Bay Road and one in West Bay.
Dolphins
Swim or Dive ~ At the Dolphin Research Center you can experience these delightfully, inquisitive mammals. There is the opportunity to have them introduced to you and touch them, or you may swim with them, of dive with them. This is all arranged at the research center at Anthony's Key Resort in Sandy Bay. We did the swim with our son when he was 12 and it was well worth the price for that one time experience. It was delightful to see the look in his eyes when the baby dolphin kept checking out his unusual fins.
Arch's Iguana Farm
Mr. Arch is a grassroots conservationist. Iguanas became scarce on the island because they are a desirable food source. He took it upon himself to insure that Roatan had Iguanas. Since that time he has saved Tarpon, turtles, monkeys, Parrots and it is always hard to tell what you will find next at the Arch's. Feeding time is the best time to go (about noon) and the Arch's always appreciate you bringing along some fruit or greenery for the enormous Iguana population living in his treetops.
Mangrove Tour
There are boatmen in Jonesville or Oakridge who take you for a tour through the Mangroves. It is really beautiful and a great opportunity to heron, and migrating birds.
Garifuna
Yubu is located at Politilly Bight, just before the entrance to the Garifuna village of Punta Gorda (about 20 minutes out of French Harbour).
It is open every Tuesday to Friday from 10am - 3pm, entrance fee is $5 per person.
Shopping and Dining
There is an abundance of excellent dinning and shopping experiences to be had on Roatan. West End has by far the largest selection from Indian to Vietnamese to French, Argentinean and Island. Pictured here is the famous 'Hole in the Wall' gotten to by boat out of Jonesville. Intriguing gift shops can be found from Coxen Hole to Sandy Bay to West End.
Gumba Limba
Off of West Bay Road, you will find Roatan's Busch Gardens ~ it offers 'Snuba', caves, monkeys. peacocks, and more.
Stone Castle Carving Institute & Store
Located just west of the cruise ship dock in Coxen, the Stone Castle is easy to find. It has some of the most beautiful cameo carvings I have seen. It is like being in Italy. Roatan is home to many Italians.
