Property Information |
|
This lovely three-level, contemporary, Broadkill Beach home is situated just a short block back from a quiet beach that's reminiscent of the movie classic 'Summer of '42'. If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing vacation away from the traffic and hectic pace of Rehoboth, Dewey, Ocean City, and other nearby Atlantic beaches, Broadkill Beach will delight you.
The road into Broadkill beach passes a championship golf course. The road then winds through the Primehook nature preserve, a birdwatcher's and nature lover's paradise -- putting you back in time to an era where tranquility and open space still existed. The preserve with its pristine waterways for you to explore, is a favorite with kayakers and canoeists. The road ends in an inviting development of charming homes with a single road that parallels the beach.
Set back from the road behind a lovely garden, the house is on a double lot. It's surrounded by trees, affording ample privacy.
The main living level has a modern kitchen, one bedroom, a full bath, and an expansive great room with a wet bar, fireplace, and sliding doors that open onto a screened porch overlooking the garden. Expansive windows and skylights provide a light and airy ambience.
A flight of stairs with open views towards the beach leads up to a master bedroom suite with a king-size bed, a sitting area, a private deck that affords views of Broadkill's spectacular sunsets, and two skylights that provide enchanting vistas of the myriad of stars visible on a clear night. Lie in bed and test your ability to identify the stars and constellations; or simply delight in the view.
A spacious, private, ground-floor room serves as the third bedroom -- and also doubles as a den. This room has one twin bed and a double futon which provides comfortable sleeping and/or sitting. It also has its separate entrance, allowing it to be closed off from the rest of the house, if desired.
Behind the house is a large screened gazebo, secluded by trees and equipped with a double hammock, a hot tub that easily accommodates four (fabulous on cooler evenings!), a gourmet gas grill, and a large octagonal picnic table for casual dining. Between the gazebo and the main house is an enclosed outside shower with a separate dressing area.
The beach is reached by a charming wooden walkway over the dunes. Sheltered by Cape Henlopen on the south and Cape May on the north, its waters are relatively calm. And best of all, the beach is rarely, if ever, crowded. Families build campfires on the beach; and well-behaved pets are welcome.
While Broadkill Beach is 'away from the madding crowd', it is far from being totally isolated. Broadkill's general store is just a short walk from the house, and carries a little bit of everything including wonderful homemade donuts on weekend mornings. Fresh produce and scrumptuous homemade pies are available at West's, the local produce market on the road into Broadkill. And if you have a desire for first-class shopping or a taste for the variety and excitement of the larger resorts at any time during your stay, Lewes, Rehoboth, and Dewey can be reached within 15 minutes or less.
All in all, Broadkill beach and the 'Summer of '42' home that awaits you offer a unique experience not to be missed!

GOLF GETAWAY “Summer of 42”
Located on Broadkill Beach, one of the last “best kept secrets” on the Delaware shore, the “Summer of 42” house offers all the amenities of a modern home, all of the nostalgia of quieter times, and all of the golfing you can handle. Nestled between a serene nature preserve (a birdwatcher’s dream) and the Delaware Bay, the “Summer of 42” is a quiet haven for anyone who loves golf, soaking in a hot tub after a hard back nine, beach combing, surf casting, grilling out in a screened, tree surrounded gazebo, and relaxing in a hammock while family/friends gather around the picnic table.
Just a two-mile drive through the Primehook Nature Preserve and a few dozen frog hops from the picturesque (and fish laden) Broadkill river, the Rookery Golf Course http://www.rookerygolf.com/golf/proto/rookerygolf/ is the newest public championship 18-hole layout in the Rehoboth Beach resort area. Pete Oakley, 2004 Senior British Open winner, and course visionary, Chris Adkins (currently the Rookery’s superintendent) have teamed up in designing a water-laden, golfer-friendly challenge. With four sets of tees for golfers of all abilities, it offers a unique, inviting playing experience.
Besides great golf, the Rookery also offers a full range of services, including a lovely lounge and restaurant, a fully stocked golf store and clubhouse, and PGA instruction for golfers who choose to become members. If you have never visited The Rookery, you haven’t yet discovered one of the great golf experiences.
If you stay with us for a week, we offer you a FREE round of golf. And/or if your visit to “Summer of 42” includes your birthday, you will receive a FREE greens fee from the Rookery upon joining their e-club (free membership), valid for one week prior and one week after your birthday.
“Summer of 42”, your home away from home, offers three bedrooms, including a spacious master suite on its own separate floor with TV/cable/VCR, skylisght, private bath, private deck and comfortable sitting area. The house comfortably sleeps seven, but can accommodate up to nine. The home’s main floor offers a great room with vaulted ceilings and sky lights which opens to a lovely porch overlooking the front yard. |
