Winter Sports: Thanks to the largest concentration of ski areas in North America, downhill, snowboard and cross country enthusiasts can find their favorite terrain. Wide-open bowls, expert chutes, tree-lined trails, skating lanes... and of course, fabulous lake views. A season that usually lasts six months give you plenty of time. There’s double the snow pack of the Swiss Alps and sunshine nearly 90% of the season with comfortable temperatures. And Incline Village is the right place: home to Diamond Peak, a family favorite, and centrally located between two world-famous resorts, Heavenly and Squaw Valley. Also enjoy snowmobiling, sleigh rides, ice skating, and sledding

Water Sports: Lake Tahoe is 22 miles long, 12 miles wide, and has 72 miles of shoreline. It’s average surface elevation is 6,225 feet above sea level, making it the highest lake of its size in the US. Lake Tahoe appears very blue because of its great depth (1,645 square feet), purity (in some places visibility if 75 feet), and the clarity of the dark blue sky found at higher elevations. It can also appear red during sunsets. Water sports to enjoy include swimming (temperature gets to 68 at the shoreline), boating, sailing, jet skiing, kayaking, and canoeing.

Golf: Amid the pines above Lake Tahoe’s north shore, Robert Trent Jones designed the Incline Championship Course and his son Robert Trent Jones, Jr. laid out the Executive Mountain Course. The Championship Course features gentle elevation changes, with streams as water hazards on 13 holes, and follows Jones’ philosophy that every hole should be a tough par but an easy bogey. The Mountain Course has elevation changes, scenic views, and four par 4s. Resort courses, 36 holes, open May-October.

Edgewood Tahoe-Named one of Golf Digest’s top 25 public golf courses, Edgewood Tahoe is located in South Lake Tahoe. The George Fazio-designed course hosted the US. Public Links in 1980 and the US. Seniors Open in 1985. Site of a nationally televised, annual celebrity tournament, Edgewood hosts the American Century Celebrity Golf Championship on July 4-9th, 2000.

Carson City and Reno - as these nearby cities are at much lower elevations, golf is more of a year round sport depending on your weather tolerance (December/January are in the high 40s, Feburary/March in the high 50s).

Gambling: Nonstop casino action and excitement is a Nevada trademark. Visit Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe or for more adventure, visit Reno (detailed below).

Recreational Activities: fishing, camping, rock climbing, horseback riding, parasailing, gliding, hand gliding, biking, hiking (Tahoe Rim Trail circles the Lake), tennis, wildflower excursions

Cultural Events: There are a variety of cultural events that take place annually including: The Shakespeare Festival at Sand Harbor, North Tahoe Symphony Association Concert Series, Valhalla Summer Arts & Music Festival at the Tallac Historic Site, Native American Fine Arts Festival, Sunday Jazz Concerts at Northstar, Tahoe fountain Musicals and Squaw Valley Performances (concerts)
