The Chautauqua Institution was founded in 1874. A dramatic lakeside setting in upstate New York and the beauty of its National Historic Landmark architecture make the Chautauqua Institution a thriving community where visitors come to find culture, intellectual growth, and renewal.
Welcome to 37 Foster! Our charming, traditional "New York brownshingle" was built in 1895 and has been lovingly updated and cared and for by our family for decades. We hope you will love it as much as we do, and we try to provide everything you will need for a comfortable and memorable Chautauqua vacation. This is a great neighborhood for everyone from grandparents to kids, with neighbors who are friendly yet considerate of everyone's privacy. The Children's School bus stops a block away at Lincoln Park, and the trams stop just steps away at the corner. Come join us at 37 Foster for a true Chautauqua experience!
Location: 1 block from the Brick Walk, halfway between the Amphitheater and Hall of Philosophy, between Wythe and Warren Avenues.

Parking & Yard: Guests purchase parking in one of the institution lots, as parking is not available on site. Small yard with charcoal grill.
The House: Half of a double house, divided vertically. Two floors. It is not air-conditioned, but fans are provided.
First Floor: Porch with 2 wicker chairs and table; Living / Dining room with gas-log fireplace, sofa, 2 chairs, TV & VCR, dining table expandable to seat 6. Kitchenette with full-size refrigerator, electric range, disposer, dishwasher, and small microwave.
Second Floor: Bath with sink, tub / shower combination, and toilet; 3 single bedrooms, no closets; 1 double room with full-size (54") double bed and closet; closets in hall.
Decoration and Furnishings: Nicely decorated with new carpet and wallpaper in an “Old Chautauqua” style, some antiques
Cleaning: The house is carefully cleaned for each tenant by personally chosen helpers who have been with us for many years. These pros know what clean is!
Laundry: The washer and dryer are located on a back porch and shared by both tenants.
Supplies: The house is fully equipped with linens, towels, dishes, flatware, and cooking utensils. You don’t need to bring anything; just unpack and enjoy your Chautauqua vacation.
No pets. No smoking. Because of allergies in our family and out of consideration for other guests, we do not allow pets or smoking on the property.
