The new apartment enjoys spectacular views of the North Shore – as it is situated low on the hillsides overlooking the ocean, the peace and quiet is complete. Near restaurants, a gas station, supermarket, beaches and situated along a major bus route that runs late into the evening, this location is the best for folks not wanting to use mopeds or endless taxis. Sleeping accommodations suit up to five guests in comfort.
Washer and dryer also available for visits of 7 nights or longer ONLY.
Non-smokers and no pets. Extra towels and sheets are made available to you, but no maid service is provided. This is a self-catering unit that you are expected to keep neat and clean please.
The private garden has chairs to enjoy the stunning views on the private grassed patio. The water from the property is clear and beautifully turquoise, and is great for swimming and snorkeling. It is important to note that access down to the shore is rocky and fairly steep: water shoes are a good idea to swim from this location. The property overhangs conservation areas which are part of the Railway Trail System of public park lands. The Parks Dept. places severe restrictions on what the abutting home owners can build, to protect rare and native species, water run-off management and habitat. Access to the waterfront is down the side of the property on steps that are cut out of the natural landscape: some guests may find them a bit of a challenge, especially after a rain. However, there are many other easy to access points to the railway trail along this stretch of coastline and to miss the walk would be a great shame as swimming and snorkeling in the relatively calm water from the dock is a pleasure not to be missed. Shelly Bay is the closest calm beach with sand and visitor amenities including a lovely child friendly park.
Only 20 minutes to Hamilton and 10 minutes from the Airport.
Private access to the railway trail for walking or jogging.
There is a pleasant restaurant next door called Landfall that offers dine in or take out options. The bus stop going on both directions is right outside the driveway of the house. The bus runs every 15 minutes on weekdays and 30 minutes on weekends. You don’t need to check the schedule, you can just go outside and wait for the bus, it’ll come in a few minutes! Bring a book and relax.
Shelly Bay marketplace is a 15 minute walk away, where you can also purchase bus tickets. All you need is within walking distance of this location: Post office, groceries, liquor, churches. One of the best kept secrets in all of Bermuda, Shelly Bay Beach, is less than 5 minutes away by bus – literally 3 stops on the bus. It’s never crowded, it has trees to cover oneself from the sun if needed, and due to the fact that it’s on a bay the water is very calm, making it very safe for swimming and snorkeling.
Mopeds can be rented from Smatt’s at Tucker’s Point. Shopping in the neighbourhood includes a supermarket at the Shelly Bay Plaza and a small convenience store at the gas station at the end of Radnor Road. One half mile away there is another convenience store open until midnight. Grocery stores also sell liquor, wines and beer. Dry cleaners, a pizza parlor and a Post Office are nearby. Flatts Village is ten minutes away by bus (and is delightful village) with nice places to eat (Indigo Restaurant which serves international food and Rustico which offers Italian cuisine), gift and other shops, and the Aquarium and Zoo which are well worth a visit. Sports activities include tennis courts (which can be booked at reasonable rates) at Grotto Bay, which is five minutes away by bus.
Golfers will enjoy Ocean View Course in Devonshire and there are numerous public courses.
Hiking is enjoyable at Ferry Reach and St. David’s Head, two of the larger and more interesting parks. There is also Spittal Pond Bird Sanctuary and endless coastline areas to walk. Swimming and snorkelling are good on most beaches. Tobacco Bay in St. George’s is a great beach year round – sheltered and with marvellous numbers of fish. Close by is John Smith’s Bay- a South Shore beach with pinkish sand. Diving, sailing and windsurfing are all available at Grotto Bay Resort which is nearby.
