Property Description

The Shay Inn welcomes you and your family to your farmhouse away from home! Located in the historic logging town (and now state Park) of Cass, WV, the Shay Inn is mere steps from the 78-mile Greenbrier River hiking and biking Trail, a short walk to the Cass Scenic Railroad & Depot and Cass Country Store (featuring The Last Run Restaurant), a 10-minute drive to the world-class Green Bank Observatory and a 15-minute drive to Snowshoe Mountain Ski Resort. Other nearby activities include horseback riding, kayaking, fishing and hunting.

Built in 1911, the Shay Inn was built using timber from the now defunct Cass Mill and is named in honor of the old dining car that the current owner's family ran during the early days of Cass’s transition from lumber town to Scenic Railroad and tourist destination.

The Shay Inn accommodates up to 8 guests and features:
3 quaint bedrooms (Two rooms with full beds and the other a queen)
Two additional pull-out sofas in the den and living room
Fully equipped kitchen with dishwasher
Formal dining and living area + separate den
Wifi
Cable
Washer/Dryer

More on Cass:
Nestled in the mountains of West Virginia, Cass Scenic Railroad State Park offers a journey back in time to an era when steam-driven locomotives were an essential part of everyday life. Trips to Cass are filled with the rich history of the past, unparalleled views of a vast wilderness area, and close-up encounters with the sights and sounds of original steam-driven locomotives.

Founded in 1901 by the West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, Cass was built as a company town to serve the needs of the men who worked in the nearby mountains. At one time, the sawmill at Cass was the largest double-band sawmill in the world.

When the mill closed in the 1960, a group of local businessmen convinced the West Virginia state legislature to make the Cass Railroad a state park and now visitors ride on historic converted log cars, pushed along by a powerful geared logging locomotive, 11 miles up Back Allegheny Mountain to Bald Knob, the third highest point in the state.
