Saltmarsh Retreat accommodates up to 8 and includes 2 ½ baths, elevator, screen sleeping porch, deck, outdoor shower, and soaking tub. Pine paneling and flooring, vaulted ceilings, and marine architectural elements distinguish the residence as a coastal station .The house includes 3 carts, and linens. NO MEMBERSHIPS available with this property.

Middle Island’s Dogwood Ridge. Surrounded by undeveloped land, the house rests in an acre of maritime forest of live oaks and palmettos, reaching down to Cape Creek waters. East Beach and miles of undeveloped shoreline are accessible privately, a 5-minute cart ride along pristine saltmarsh & Cape Creek Road. The intentional aspects of the home's design paired with all of the simplistic, yet unique qualities of the entire interior and exteriors of the Saltmarsh Retreat on Middle Island make it one of the best places I've ever stayed in. If you've come for a true retreat, you've come to the right place. It'll take you away if you let it. I suggest spending half a day or more in the hammock and/or the bench down near the marsh with a good book or your journal, moving about only so much to stretch your muscles. I can't imagine anyone not enjoying this place. Too much else to list that we thought was wonderful, so in short, it's an excellent place to stay and we look forward to returning one day.
Serene and beautiful retreat

I absolutely adored the Saltmarsh Retreat and would return in a heartbeat! First of all, it is located on the most beautiful and quiet part of Bald Head Island. Sheltered within a marine forest with views of the salt marsh through the trees, it is a short bike ride to one of the most private stretches of beach on the East Coast. Sitting on any of the many porches was pure delight as the only sounds I heard were those of nearby birds and the distant roar of the sea. The house itself is a design marvel with light pouring through its many windows and the Scandinavian-like decor conveying zen tranquility and spaciousness. The beds are super comfortable and the kitchen is very well equipped. I especially appreciated the artistic touches throughout. Also, the communication with the management was superb. I highly recommend this unique home without reservation!
Enchanting Hideaway

We enjoyed a wonderful winter weekend at Saltmarsh Retreat. Our kids loved exploring the trails and marsh, and lovely beach accesses were an easy cart ride away. The house was very comfortable and allowed the surrounding natural beauty to shine through. We are already plotting a return visit!

We love Saltmarsh Retreat. Everything about the home and location is perfect for us. The house is always clean and the golf carts are great. Very family friendly as well, our toddler loves it! Thank you and we can't wait for our next visit!

House was wonderful, beds were comfortable, three golf carts was a huge bonus. There was only one bike, and the kitchen needs a little organization but we had everything needed. BHI services was very helpful.

This place was perfect for us. The design and craftmanship is extraordinary. We loved it. Why it isn't featured in architecture publications I don't know. The stainless steel custom handrail is a marvel. Wonderful natural light, a great kitchen, comfortable layout, well maintained golf carts and, and, and... I could go on. Bald Head is a retreat itself and this place is a retreat from Bald Head. We predict that someone is going to write an important book or song while staying at this place. It sort of says, "You are away now. Let what's in there out. Thanks for creating such a great place.

A perfect retreat

This property offered a perfect anniversary getaway. Arriving at the house from the tram ride, we felt like we were deep in a secluded tropical forest! A couple of unique features include a deck off the upper level that provides a great spot for stargazing, a screened-in sleeping porch, fragrant rosemary bushes at the entrance, walking paths and salt marshes to explore, and close proximity to east beach. With the openness and thoughtful contemporary decor, we even very much enjoyed spending one rainy day inside. We loved the house and location so much, we re-arranged our schedules to stay an extra day and are looking forward to returning soon.

LOVE this house!! Like living in a treehouse. Simple (but perfect) decor. The owners have thought of everything, it is so easy to walk into this house and find everything you need. The kitchen is well stocked which makes it so fun to cook in. LOVE IT>
Best marsh and sea kayaking anywhere

Eight friends brought four sea kayaks to Bald Head. Two by ferry and two paddled over from Southport. We paddled six out of seven days up and down the creeks and though the marshes. We saw lots of shore birds and a sea turtle and a marsh hawk. Paddled one day to the village and had lunch.Beautiful house and location.
Another Great Week at BHI

This house worked amazing for our group of two families and all of our kids. Space to spread out when needed, but the ability to all eat together family style for dinner. The kids entertained themselves for hours with the easy access to the marsh and the dock for fishing and crabbing. Spotlessly clean and well appointed. Had a flat tire on the 4th of July in the cart, and management even contacted us on the holiday to help sort it out!

This tree house on private Middle Island was the perfect retreat for our family vacation. The open floor plan on the top floor made for a fun social setting. The set up was safe and kid friendly. The ping pong table and TV room an added bonus. Beds and bathrooms simple and accommodating. The home was private and secluded. We really enjoyed our stay at the Saltmarsh Retreat and can't wait to return! Thank you for providing a memorable experience for our family!

My family enjoyed this home so much. From making the reservations to the day we left was perfect! If there was a problem, the BHIS was on it immediately. Everything surpassed our expectations, we WILL be back! The beds were so comfortable, the kitchen well equipped and the view was spectacular...It is a treehouse in the forest, so private and the wildlife was wonderful to watch. Thank you for sharing your home with us!

We thoroughly enjoyed our time at Saltmarsh Retreat as we were on the Island to support our daughter on the 51 mile Cape Fear Badwater race (she finished in 10 hours 50 minutes!). The house is in a tranquil location and was well equipped for six adults and one child. Will definitely return!
