Property Description
Whether you prefer sitting comfortably in the shade of the covered front porch or relaxing out back by the pool collecting an important dose of vitamin D, this two bedroom plus study with a queen sleeper sofa – 3 bath townhome makes the ideal vacation spot. The property is located in Truman Annex, one of the most secluded and prestigious addresses in town, yet only a few blocks from Duval and everything this island community is famous for.
Through a white picket fence, past lush green landscaping, up a couple of stairs places you face to face with wooden rocking chairs. If you choose to sit, rock, and relax, an overhang protects you from sun or from a passing cloud burst. Close by, the front door opens into a hallway. To the immediate left is a very functional and cozy study with a desk, chair, and printer ready to be hooked up so you can work, write, or study should the need arise. It can also serve as the perfect 3rd bedroom compliments of the queen sleeper sofa and ensuite full bath. Straight ahead from the study is the living area. To the right is a polished, hardwood staircase leading to the second floor. Multiple windows, hardwood floors, and island-themed art lend color, sophistication, and interest throughout the home. And of course there’s A/C and cable.
Up the staircase and to the right is the spacious primary bedroom and ensuite full bath in ocean blue tones. The centerpiece of the room is the on-trend, four-poster king bed with the most comfortable mattress. At the foot are two upholstered armchairs and an ottoman perfectly positioned for settled-in viewing of a movie or the news on a centrally located TV. Each side of the bed is flanked by bedside tables complete with lamps in case reading rather than watching is more your pleasure. Sliding glass doors lead to a balcony that runs the whole length of the room. Two Adirondack chairs and small table make this an ideal, open-air space to enjoy a morning coffee.
Back inside and behind louvered doors, the closet space is abundant with plenty of space to hang wardrobe things or fold them for shelves or place them in drawers. Your choice. Above, a bladed ceiling fan provides illumination, air circulation, and a hint of the tropical. Below, honey-colored hardwood floors and strategically placed area rugs add comfort and color. A vanity desk, chair, and mirror anticipate grooming needs. Windows letting in the gentle Key West light abound here and in the large ensuite bath. The ensuite is spacious with the usual full bath necessities. In addition, a large capacity washer/dryer is conveniently located on one wall.
Down the hallway in the opposite direction is the second bedroom with full bath. It is designed and decorated with the same attention to detail and comfort as the primary bedroom. Again there’s a most comfortable king bed, plenty of closet space for your travel wardrobe and accoutrements, an overhead ceiling fan with light, and two armchairs. A small desk with a wall TV above rounds out the room. Ambient light pours in from two windows here and one in the bath.
Back downstairs is the aesthetically pleasing and fully functional kitchen. Obviously the work of a professional interior designer, the space, color, flooring, counter tops, lighting, appliances all work together harmoniously. Everything you could want or need for easy meal prep has been anticipated in advance. Plus you can look straight out the back door to enjoy views of the patio and pool area. Serving just drinks? Nearby there’s a separate bar with professional ice maker, wine rack, wine glass holder, small refrigerator for cold drinks or mixers, and plenty of counter space for bottles.
A round glass table with built-in banquette and two chairs provides dining space if you decide to eat inside. Or sit here to play cards or a board game. The living room provides plenty of seating with four armchairs, a couch, and a large ottoman that can serve as additional seating or as a coffee table for snacks, reading material, electronic devices, or whatever. As throughout, the décor is soothing in ocean and beach colors yet playful and interesting. And as from the kitchen, the mesmerizing view is that of the outside pool oasis.
The most prized area of the fabulous Cat’s Meow vacation space is just beyond the conversation area and through glass doors. Here is the private, heated pool ringed for perfect privacy by fencing and lush tall green palms. The pool itself is a rectangle of sparkling blue water that reflects the incredible blue of Key West skies. Expect a now-and-again shadow from a white puffy cloud or from pelicans gliding over. The water is temperature controlled making it perfect for a swim or float any time of day or night. Adjacent to the pool is the circular spa.
Besides the pool, this area offers space for socializing. An overhang from the house provides shade for a table and six chairs, the perfect spot for cocktails and conversation, a meal, or a game of cards. A gas grill is nearby should there be times you’d want to BBQ some fresh fish or steaks. Closer to the pool are two loungers for stretching out and cushioned chairs for sitting upright. Comfort and convenience have been planned in advance. Sectioned off by a picket fence enclosure is a covered parking area for one vehicle.
The house is ideal and so is its neighborhood. A stroll through the manicured landscaping, verdant palms, and interconnecting pathways that give the Truman Annex its park-like atmosphere, you’ll find yourself in the midst of Duval’s tourist attractions: tours, museums, shopping, bars, and restaurants, many with open-air seating, some right on the water. If you’re interested in watersports, the Historic Seaport offers all kinds: diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing to name a few. For sure don’t miss the nightly sunset celebration at Mallory Square, where visitors and locals alike gather to applaud as the sun slips below the horizon. Afterward, stick around for the festivities that follow.
Maybe your taste runs more towards the arts. If so, you’re in the right place for music, plays, art galleries, lectures, and more. If you like waterfront parks and beaches, your accommodation is at the entrance to Truman Waterfront Park and close to a favorite locals’ beach, Fort Zachery Taylor. Or maybe you’ll decide to skip the beach in favor of exploring the adjacent Civil War-era fort, which was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1973.
