Property Description

Your space. Your vacation lifestyle. The Quilted Giraffe provides both. This two-bedroom, two full bath home welcomes you from its quiet neighborly front porch facing tree-lined Elizabeth street to its private deck and heated pool in the rear. The location called Solares Hill is a part of Old Town Key West that brags about being the highest elevation on the island, all of eighteen feet above sea level. Whatever the altitude, this Hill location is central to everything from the Historic Seaport to Duval Street, yet it's removed enough to be your get-away-from-it-all haven.

The inviting rectangular pool on the back half of the property sparkles topaz in the midday sun or is equally inviting in shimmering moonlight. A pristine wooden deck and luxuriant tropical foliage surround it. The backdrop to all this natural beauty is a ten-foot wood fence that creates privacy and adds to the ambience. The deck extends up to the back of the house-some of it open to the sky with ample room to lounge in the sun, some roofed for when you prefer the shade. The covered area also features a convenient outdoor shower, and table with chairs. A Casablanca ceiling fan above circulates delightful tropical air tinged with the sweet smell of jasmine and gardenia.

From the deck, you enter the house through classic French doors. This light-filled room is an informal den featuring deep arm chairs, an ottoman, and an L-shaped couch configuration perfect for conversation, watching TV, or gazing through the doors and the floor-to-ceiling windows to the deck and pool. The wall opposite the windows and doors features a long maple cabinet that holds the TV, framed pictures of local scenes, and art objects with drawers below. A sisal area rug brings the room together visually and creates a cushiony surface for bare feet.

Ascending up a carpeted staircase from the den, you'll find the second story master bedroom and full bath with a double sink and ample ambient light. The walls are white pine; white louvered doors cover generous closet spaces. Above the king bed, which offers an inviting stage for a great night's sleep, are two rectangular windows showcasing palm fronds waving in outside breezes. As in all the rooms in the Quilted Giraffe, the outside and inside seem to be intentionally intertwined.

Back downstairs, next to the den, there's a second bedroom with twin beds steps from the second full bath. Down a short hall way, past a colorful painting called La Bodeguita Del Medio, is the kitchen featuring every appliance you could need and a handy pass-through to the dining table and chairs. Above the counters and cabinets is a shelf and window where colorful glass pieces glisten in the sunlight, lending elegance and interest to the predominately white kitchen.

A wall-mounted spirit mask with full bark dress guards the living room, imparting a sense of calm and spiritual empowerment to all who enter the Quilted Giraffe. The unusual hanging looks great and sets the tone for other African and Cuban art throughout the house. Colorful pillows in tropical hues decorate the couch and echo the art work thoughtfully arranged on the walls. This home is Pet (Dog) Friendly**(please see below or our FAQ page for rules and restrictions)

Once you've changed into shorts and flip-flops and are ready to leave the Quilted Giraffe for a little while, there's still the rest of Key West to explore. Turn left at the white picket fence and walk toward the Historic Seaport on the Gulf of Mexico to find a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality located right at water's edge. Or check out the impressive tall ships like the Western Union, most offering daytime and sunset sails. Maybe sign up for other water sports like snorkeling, jet skiing, parasailing, and kayaking. Or walk a few blocks to Duval to check out tours, museums, shopping, bars, and still more restaurants. As Mr. Chapman who rides his lighted bike playing Motown music down Duval nightly says, "Key West is like no other place on earth." You'll discover the truth behind this statement as you explore the southernmost city for yourself.

To know what's going on from day to day, check out Historic Hideaways' informative Events page on our website. Other information on the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events include milezerokeywest.com and Paradise, which comes out every Thursday.

Great Location and House

November 2021
The Quilted Giraffe is perfectly located close to Duval St., yet far enough away from the noise and crowds. The backyard is awesome for relaxing with it's deck and pool area. The kitchen is appointed very well and made cooking easy. The new chairs on the front porch were very comfortable and the updated master bath was great. This is our second visit to the home and we will be back.
The Quilted Giraffe was a great place for two couples.

Historic Hideaways was fantastic to work with! I would rent through them again. The Quilted Giraffe was a great place for two couples. We each felt like we had our own space to relax in when we needed it. The pool was great for an afternoon cool down after exploring the island. The kitchen was well equipped with everything we needed to prepare snacks and make cocktails. It was a little warm to sit on the front porch for too long, but in cooler temperatures, I can see those rocking chairs being put to good use. All in all, the Quilted Giraffe was great and I would rent it again.
...we just LOVE this place.

July 2021
Historic Hideaways was so great to work with as we were leading up to our arrival date. I had a few questions along the way and their responses were detailed and timely. This was our 2nd time staying in Quilted Giraffe (and probably not our last!) and we just LOVE this place. It’s in a great location close to Duval Street but far enough away for a peaceful retreat. The unit’s upstairs bathroom has been remodeled since our last stay in March 2021 which was a nice upgrade for us. The unit has all of the amenities that we needed during our stay and the pool deck area is peaceful and private. We really enjoyed our pool time! The air conditioning was cold and efficient for us. The living room and TV room are great for relaxing when you need some time away from the heat. Overall, it was a 5-star experience yet again and we’re looking forward to our next stay at Quilted Giraffe!
Would love to come back!

April 2021
Loved the house and décor. It had a great outdoor space in both the front and back of the house. I enjoyed drinking coffee on the front porch and watching the activity. We definitely enjoyed the pool in the back. The deck was a nice size and we ate several meals out there and it was also very secluded. The house had plenty of room. The kitchen was pretty well stocked with what we needed to cook with but it would have been nice if a few essentials were kept on-hand. A few spices, sugar, salt and pepper – that sort of thing. There were beach towels as well as plenty of bath towels. Location was perfect; centrally located and walking distance to many bars and restaurants, but a quiet neighborhood overall. Would love to come back!
Wonderful location...

Outdoor areas amazing

March 2021
This little house was in a perfect location. It was close to everything but off of Duval. The front garden and porch were very welcoming. The foliage in the front and the back of the house were my favorite. It was so amazing to have a little pool. The inside first floor was decorated very tastefully and was very relaxing. The upstairs master was a bit dark with a lot of wood. I would’ve loved to see that brightened up with lighter colors and fresh flooring.
Absolutely wonderful

March 2021
We come to Key West every year and have stayed at a combination of condo's and cottages. This was hands down our favorite yet. Close enough to all the Duval action yet just far enough off to be very quiet and relaxing. The house was exceptionally clean and comfortable, and the private back yard, pool and shower was simply awesome. Great to relax and drink coffee in the morning and cool down in the evening. The staff was exceptional to work with even though this was a 2020 vacation that we had to reschedule to 2021 and we requested a late check-in as we drove down from Miami and everything was accommodated and no issues what-so-ever! I'm coming back to Key West the end of May and already reserved another Historic Hideaways property and my wife and I will try to reserve this place again in 2022 for vacation. There really is almost nothing better. Thank you Tim and the rest of the Historic Hideaway staff for an awesome place to stay on our long-overdue vacation!
Enjoyed the house and it's proximity to everything.

March 2021
Absolutely awesome home and location! In the middle of the Duval stretch but a close 1.5 blocks away to have a peaceful area. Best of both worlds. Lots of amenities were included already but we loved having the additional beach towels there for us. And we got to do outdoor laundry...something we don’t have in Pennsylvania! The pool area is very relaxing with high walls/foliage to help block some wind when needed but it offered just the right amount of sun and shade. Air conditioning inside was plentiful with no issues and there are plenty of fans to circulate the air. Very comfortable furniture on the front porch which was great for relaxing. We slept in the upstairs bedroom which had the most comfortable bed and pillows ever. Overall this was an excellent property and we’re planning a return to Quilted Giraffe in July 2021. It’s the perfect home in Key West! The check-in and check-out process was extremely easy with the drop box and key drop options. The house was VERY clean upon arrival. For our next trip, we will take advantage of the concierge services to save us a trip to the stores so we’re looking forward to that.
Our liquor order was delivered and waiting for us!

February 2021
We felt relaxed the minute we walked into this cute house with it's welcoming décor and plenty of space to spread out. Our liquor order was delivered and waiting for us! We appreciated the COVID-19 cleaning protocol and felt safe throughout the house. The location in Old Town was fantastic and the neighborhood was filled with well-cared for homes and friendly locals. We thought we would cook more, but all our favorite restaurants were so close for dine in or carry out.
Overall great experience.
—Kerri T.
January 2021
The check in and check out were contactless and we were grateful for earlier check in. The location of this home was perfect. It is walking distance to everything on Duval, the Harbor Walk area and Mallory Square. The home itself was great for our family get together. The house has ample space for privacy and also nice areas to visit in such as the 2 family rooms and outdoor area. The pool area was wonderful, the plants were beautiful and there was plenty of seating as well the outdoor shower was a very nice touch. The kitchen had all gear we needed to prepare a few meals and it was very convenient to have a washer and dryer...
Great location.

August 2020
We loved staying at the Quilted Giraffe, walking distance to most points of interest. Home was nice and roomy. We spent most of our time outside by the pool, for August the weather was nice, pool temp was nice and cool. I would stay here again.
Our first time to Key West and Historic Hideaways rentals made it a dream vacation.

August 2020
Our first time to Key West and Historic Hideaways rentals made it a dream vacation. We can't say enough about the house, right down to the location!! It was beautiful!! We will return again and again and always stay with Historic Hideaways! Rental Agent is a dream to work with too!
This was our second time staying in the home
—Stacey R.
July 2020
This was our second time staying in the home and it is still a fantastic place to stay. We love that the location is far enough off Duval to be quiet but still very close to all of our favorite places. The rental process was easy and we had no issues with key pick up or drop off. We did have a slight issue with the washer but it was fixed quickly. We also love that this property is pet friendly.
This home was just as pictured and described.
—Kelly B.
February 2020
We enjoyed every aspect of our visit to Key West. This home was just as pictured and described. Well kept and so quaint. Our favorite part was our private tropical oasis in the backyard. We spent a few hours there each day. So relaxing and peaceful. The location of the home is perfect for sight seeing. Just a few minuets from either end of the island and Duval street. Quiet and peaceful but close enough for convivence to the action. Our check in and check out process was smooth and quick. We appreciated that we could leave of luggage at the rental office while we explored Duval street on out last day. Our flight wasn't till later in the afternoon. Key West was so much fun and was everything I imagined and so much more. Cant wait to return!!!
The location of Quilted Giraffe is perfect.

April 2019
The location of Quilted Giraffe is perfect. Tim went above and beyond to accommodate us. We loved all the art work and made great use of the pool. We parked the car and rented scooters. Loved the art in the home and the kitchen is well stocked. The only complaints would be the parking situation which cant be helped. The outdoor landscape light is broken and the grill cooks very slow. Our stay was fantastic. Thank you for the hospitality .
The HH service was great throughout the years I've stayed there.
—D S.
February 2019
The HH service was great throughout the years I've stayed there. The home is in a great location and the outdoor space is great. The owners really should put a pull out couch in the front living room. There were a few days when I had a transition between friends and had to put an air mattress in there. It seems silly to make people sleep n the two couches when the house could easily accommodate a pull out... it isn't like anyone renting it would have 6 people in there for the month, but options are nice for a weekend. The first floor bathroom really needs an update. The tub has stains that simply won't come out and it makes that bathroom feel dirty. Otherwise, I truly enjoyed the house over the years.
Home was nice, located on a quiet street.
—Barbara H.
December 2018
Home was nice, located on a quiet street. Was pretty clean except for the carpets and rugs. Home was nicely equipped and the small pool was a bonus. Two things that were bothersome; there was no central heat and air only window units in each room which were very noisy and kicked on and off constantly. The unit in the main room by the kitchen was making a terrible noise as if it was going to break at any moment. Unfortunately the laundry room was located outside in the pool area which was not an issue except for the fact there was no light to see. Often we got back after dark and needed to do laundry so that was a bit of a pain otherwise we enjoyed our stay.
Wonderful service and home.
—Jack C.
April 2018
Wonderful service and home. The common areas and garden were perfect for our family. The pool is great to cool down.
The house was adorable!
—Amy H.
December 2017
Tim had a city map and several helpful suggestions . The house was adorable! The location was super convenient to Duvall st and the pool and grill made it the perfect place to stay for a week.
Charming relaxing home away from home
—M. C.
December 2017
Charming historic home, comfy beach cottage feel. GREAT LOCATION, beautiful pool area great for dining under the stars or a relaxing day in the sun. If your lucky you might get a visit from one of the town locals.
Loved the location...
—Stacey R.
May 2016
Loved the location, artwork and how well stocked the house was with supplies. Emails regarding booking were answered quickly and everything was as advertised. We were surprised to find that while the backyard appeared securely fenced it was possible for our pug to go under the deck, then house and out the front gate. A warning to keep small dogs tethered would be appreciated, but thankfully Clark was found by someone on the street almost immediately upon escape she was wearing identification.
Would definately use this house again.
—Richard T.
January 2015
My wife and I stayed for a month in Key West for the first time, we have been there before for a couple of weeks at a time in one of the Inns. It was nice but staying in a furnished house was excellent. This house was more than equipped it had everything to hold you over till you can get to Faustos. The Historic Hideways group was very attentive. We flew into KW and did not have a car and this time we did not even have bicycles,, that's how good the location is. Location location location. We did use them if we went to beach but the pool was great and very sunny. Would definately use this house again.
Essential Old Town
—Robert P.
January 2014
This cottage is perfect for a couple, with occasional visitors. Walking distance to everything, away from the Duval madness, and reflecting the owner's taste, this rental is first rate.
Relaxing Respite
—Marge A.
March 2013
The heated pool and lush backyard foliage were the draw to this well appointed home. Parking was a nightmare, the neighbor to the right facing the house was most unpleasant. A parking spot in the front yard would be recommended. The location was excellent for walking anywhere. The service was good once we met Bill. Prior to him, Corey and Libby both seemed disorganized and inattentive to our needs.
