Property Information
The Tower Guest House at the Crawford Garlic Farm nestles in the shade of apple trees, with views of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains to the east, flower beds and vegetable rows to the south. The farm is a half mile off the main highway on the prettiest country lane in the Embudo Valley, and is bathed with the sounds of the Rio Embudo 100 yards to the south. To the north the farm borders on a vast expanse of public land, whose hills and arroyos can be explored on foot or by mountain bike.
The downstairs consists of a round stone bedroom with a bathroom and shower across the hall, plus a washer-drier; and upstairs, via a spacious spiral staircase, is the kitchen-living room and deck with stunning views. The kitchen includes a small fridge, microwave, toaster oven, a two-burner stove, and a grill on the deck. The upstairs sofa converts into a futon. Local phone service and satellite TV are included. There is a DVD player and CD player with and I-Pod dock.
During the growing season, guests are invited to forage for vegetables (lettuce, spinach, arugula, peas, beets, carrots, turnips, onions, kale, chard, green beans, squash, garlic and shallots) and flowers (sunflowers, zinnias, marigolds, calendulas) from the field.
Readily accessible activities include walking, hiking, biking, rafting and kayaking during the spring and summer, and during the winter months skiing within 15 to 35 miles. A cooperative market in the center of Dixon, a 1-1/2 mile walk or bike ride on back roads, offers an excellent selection of organic and conventional groceries. Next door to it is the Embudo Valley Library, with wireless DSL access. There is also cell phone reception in the center of Dixon.
