Our family's private retreat is located in the Maritime Forest, on the remote and beautiful Bald Head Island. This is where we feel most relaxed and at home. We know you'll love it, too. You can walk to the Maritime Market in 5 minutes (kids and groceries will fit nicely in the wagon), or take a cart ride for 3 minutes to one of the beautiful, empty, and convenient beaches.

This new home is reminiscent of a Pottery Barn Dream Home. The kitchen and living room are open. The kitchen features beautiful granite countertops, stainless steel appliances, and custom cabinets. We are proud of how well-equipped the kitchen is. It is equipped for any cook and the dining area is bright and spacious. Beautiful bamboo floors cover the living areas. The master bedroom, with a king-sized bed, is also located on the main level. The bathroom features granite and tile with a large walk in shower. Two additional bedrooms are located upstairs, one with a queen bed and the other with two full/twin-sized bunk beds. There is also a full-sized laundry and a bathroom. The crofter features a fourth bedroom with a queen bed and a full bathroom, complete with its own entrance. This is perfect for Cousin Eddie. Two screen porches, one for dining and one for relaxing, give you the option to enjoy outdoor fun while still wearing your slippers. We have two golf cars, as well as a variety of non-motorized transportation options including adult bikes, child bikes, and a scooter for younger kids.

The Fortress of Solitude is also a great choice for the entertainment enthusiast of the family. The Fortress of Solitude features a large flat-screen TV in the living area, with surround sound. There are also speakers on each porch. There are many blu-rays and DVDs available, but you can bring your favorite with you. The master bedroom has an additional TV, as does the crofter. Dish Network is our favorite, and we know you'll enjoy the viewing options. You can watch recorded shows on any TV in the house.

This house is not just for the home theater and cooking enthusiasts. It's also for the children. The bunk room has two sets bunk beds, a table and chairs, buckets full of legos and blocks, cars, brio train, puzzles, books and dolls. The more organized children can even bring their own toys to fill the empty buckets. A pack n' play and highchair is a must. In the kitchen, you'll find kids plates, cups and cutlery. There are also a lot of movies for kids and a stack of family games in your hall closet. The garage is filled with outdoor toys and beach toys for kids, including a kite, a scooter, bikes, wagons, and beach toys. Did we forget to mention the family miniature lizards that like to sun themselves on the decking outside? Enjoy hours of fun. Relax... leave the non-essential items for your kids in the trunk of your car when you go on holiday.

Enjoy the outdoors on one of our porches. One has comfortable seating to enjoy a morning cup of coffee or an afternoon glass of wine, and another is a dining porch with extra space for cooling. Keep your eyes open for deer, birds, and osprey that have been seen from the porches.

Two golf carts can be used to explore the island. Adult bikes are available for'splorin,' short for exploring. This is a popular Island activity. There are also beach umbrellas and chairs.

You can also arrange for your rental to include a temporary membership at the Baldhead Island Club. This club boasts a pool with calming water slides and comfortable sun chairs, top-notch tennis facilities, as well as a fitness center. The club has a new splashpad playground. Also, in the summer, the Club activities for children will be a highlight. The dining options at the club are perfect for a date night with your family or a dressy brunch. If you wish, we can pass on the temporary membership fee to you directly as the renter. If not, there are many miles of beaches and restaurants waiting for your bare feet. Mexican cantina anyone?

We have decorated and furnished the Fortress as our family home. It is not a vacation rental. It is your relaxing home away in a beautiful, almost magical setting. Come and explore it (or'splore).
