Property Description

The cottage is a cozy retreat. The poolside area is ideal. It is centrally located in Key West's Old Town, just half a block away from the famous Duval Street. Ann Street Gardens is the perfect indoor/outdoor experience for anyone visiting Key West. Ann Street Gardens is for 16+. Regretfully, NO Children under 16 allowed.)
The residence has a one-bedroom, one full bath, small kitchen, living area, and dining area. To access the enclosed patio, first open the doorway from the living room. This will open onto the main attraction, a beautiful poolside paradise. The pool is shared with residents of the small community where your cottage is situated. They also have access to the landscaped garden and heated pool. You will find small tables, chairs and chaise lounges scattered throughout the landscape. Wicker seats are also found around glass-topped tables. Hidden amongst the landscape are more tables and chairs. The sun shines through the palm fronds creating a pattern of light & shadow above the pool's surface. If you look up, you'll probably spot a flock of water birds flying above the pool. You can either swim, float or just sit on the side and let the cool water cool your feet. Even laying in the sunlight can make you tanned. You can also choose to relax under a tree. Here is where you will make the biggest decision about whether you want to read, snooze, or contemplate where you'll be eating your next meal. You can still enjoy the Key West weather on your brick patio if you need privacy. One part of the patio is covered and the other is open to the air. This area is almost twice the size of the living space. Near the house is a small round table with two chairs and a lamp. It is covered with a generous overhang. An area that is not covered can be fitted with a gas grille. The garden can be enhanced with antique bricks and artistic arrangement of plants and vase. The second covered area is reached by two steps. This area features a vaulted ceiling, a table and can hold a meal for one or more. The area is complemented by a large rattan sideboard, and a cushioned rocker that has six drawers. A ceiling fan with light in Caribbean design creates gentle airflow and provides lighting for the evening hours. This is the ideal spot to grill fresh fish and enjoy it alfresco while sipping chilled wine. You can also go out for dinner, then return to the patio to enjoy a glass of cognac under a canopy of stars while sipping cognac. Ann Street Gardens' interior starts with the living room. It has a glass wall that overlooks the patio. These large windows, along with other large ones throughout the cottage, provide beautiful filtered sunshine and views to tropical vegetation. A deep couch can also be used as a conversation piece. It also comes with an ottoman that can double up as a coffee table and end tables, lamps, and an armstool. On the opposite wall is a large flat-screen television. It can be viewed from a couch or chair. Under the TV is a brightly painted hutch. It adds color, artistic touches and storage space. The room ends with a small dining table and two chairs. The chairs are placed in a perfect spot next to a glass wall, which provides a beautiful view while you enjoy your meal. The bedroom has a queen-sized bed, side tables with lamps, and a doorway leading to it. Casablanca ceiling fans are suspended above the bed to provide light and air circulation. The room has art work, two windows, and a wall mirror that captures the romantic scene in all its glory. A flat-screen TV can be viewed from the bed by the wall opposite. An armoire in the corner offers ample storage space for hanging and four drawers for folding items. Near the rear wall is the entrance to the full-size bathroom with en suite. It features colorful tile flooring, shelving, and a well-lit mirror over the sink. This allows you to easily see your tan lines. Although the kitchen is small, it is functional. It includes storage drawers, a stove and refrigerator, as well as a microwave, toaster, and microwave. The two windows on the walls and the cloud-white color scheme make this room light and airy. Your vacation accommodations are just the beginning. You are just a few steps away from the entire Caribbean island. Ann Street Gardens offers off street parking so that you can easily cycle or walk everywhere. One block away is the Historic Seaport and Boardwalk. Tall ships offer day and evening cruises in the Gulf of Mexico. You can also take a full-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas via the wooden walkway. Watersports such as diving, parasailing, and snorkeling are all within easy reach. There are several restaurants around the harbor that offer informal dining. A banyan-tree with tiny white lights can be sat under at Schooner Wharf, where you can enjoy a Mahi sandwich. While you enjoy the sights of the harbor full of boats, listen to local musicians. Turtle Kraals' rooftop bar offers a better view. The Seaport is located just one block away from Duval Street, which has shops, museums, restaurants and tours. Before you travel, make sure to check your phone for sunset times. You can also stay to enjoy the after party, where street performers and artists entertain you with food and drinks. Dominique and his Flying House Cats, a feline troupe, perform amazing circus feats. They can jump through fires, walk tightropes, and do other amazing tricks. The Historic Hideaways' Events Page is a great way to see what's happening every single day. You can also find information about the current music scene, movies and plays, gallery openings and charitable events at milezerokeywest.com's calendar section or in the printed publication Paradise which is available at various locations throughout the city every Thursday.

We have never rented a home before. Our Christmas vacation generally is a cruise or an all inclusive. My cousin told me About Historic Hideaways. BEST. Decision. EVER! Special shout out to Tim who patiently answered ALL of my questions. When my husband and I got to Key West- we flew in- GREAT AIRPORT! I had called the rental company before we grabbed a cab, I didn't have my code to pick up the key. They took care of me. AND best of all our house was ready- even though we got in early! VERY APPRECIATED! We absolutely LOVED this property. It is a one bedroom home. Nicely put together. It felt like home as soon as we walked through the door. The house has a nice living room. We didn't know how to use the Netflix remote- we don't have Netflix- but it was nice to see the device and would have used it if we were into Netflix. ;) Nice little kitchen. It had a drip coffee maker, a blender, toaster, stove and frig- with all the equipment we needed. We had a great little patio area that had a gas grill, seating area. We did grill a few times out there and it was nice to sit at the patio table to eat dinner. We walked down to the local grocery store- about 4/5 blocks from Ann Street. Got our groceries. Stocked the frig. We also walked to Eaton Street that had a nice fresh fish market to grill fish. I would recommend either of the places. Nice easy walk and the workers were always friendly Google helped get us there. There was a great 3 ring binder that did tell us what was near by with phone numbers and addresses. That was appreciated. We had all of our questions answered using the little binder. In the backyard there is a shared pool. We saw very few other people in the pool area. I swam often. The pool was cold our first day- but the pool guys stopped by and it seemed that the pool was heated. My husband and I did clean the pool skimmer and got the leaves off of the pool. We chose to since I swam every day and we often sat around the pool every day. Seemed only right to do that since we were using it. There is a coin operated washer and dryer- this is used by everyone in the garden area- from what we could tell. We had no problem getting our towels and clothes washed when we wanted to. Location of Ann Street is awesome! We were one block off of Duval Street. Two friends front porch was a great restaurant for breakfast- I knew about it because my cousin said try the Key lime French toast- DO IT!! It was good. We walked everywhere we went. Key West easy to walk. The Marina and Mallory Square just minutes from the front door. NO PROBLEMS when we were there. even though we were so close to Duval we really heard the noise. yes. At 3 am we heard the bottles being thrown out- Irish Kevin's was just across the road from us (Backside that is) Yes. Garbage trucks came by early. Did it bother us? NO. I fell right back to sleep. Would we book this house again? ABSOLUTELY! What would we do differently? Stay longer! We had a great time. I felt like we were home the minute we walked through the door.

What a great place to stay right in the center of all the action. Just one block off Duval St.One of the nicest things was the off-street parking right in front of our charming Key West house. Another good thing was the air conditioner. I had to get up in the middle of the night and turn it up we were so cold. The pool is right outside the private patio. A dip in the afternoon was a real cool treat after the heat of the day. very private we only saw one other couple during our week stay. The house is completely furnished with everything you might need. Just add your own snacks and drinks. We enjoyed a relaxing time here and will be back again. Jon and Mary Anne
The house was in the perfect location for all what we wanted to do.

This is the perfect little spot for two people if you want to be right near all the action. Weve been to Key West numerous times and stayed all over the island. This was definitely the most convenient of all the places we have stayed. Even though its right behind Sloppy Joes its surprisingly quiet. We did hear the dump trucks one morning but it after 15 minutes or so they were gone. Weve always rented bikes when we came to Key West, and I can definitely say it was a waste of money this time. We only used them once to go to El Siboney. The pool area is well kept and the water was clean and comfortable (in early oct). I cleaned the leaves out a few times but with all the vegetation, its to be expected. We enjoyed lounging in the pool and watching the family of iguanas that live in the trees there! We only saw one other person while we were there. The pool area is big enough to not feel cramped if other people are there. The cottage itself is a little smaller than other places we rented but totally comfortable and very clean. The kitchen has anything you need to make a meal (which we never did haha). I wasnt crazy about the bed (it was a little stiff), but thats just a personal preference. Lots of pillows and blankets provided so that made it comfortable enough for us. The outdoor patio area is very nice and private too. The ceiling fan out there is key. Overall we had a great time and if we want to come back and be near all the action, we will stay here again.

Bungalow was terrific, pool, patio and garden were beautiful. Location can't be beat. Late check in was smooth and easy. Only issues were being asked to strip beds and bring to laundry! 1st we're guests, paying a rather good rate, not employees! Broom clean and general tidiness to be expected but not more. Checkout was disappointing at 11AM on a Sat. you'd expect staff in the office since Sat. should be a busy day for both check in and check out -yet no staff. We enjoyed everything about our stay, but feel some polish is needed on the items mentioned.
MANAGER RESPONSE:
Thank you for your feedback. For future Guests: We ask that beds are stripped, but you leave the sheets right on the floor, no need to wash them. Our office does not open until noon on Saturdays. We are closed Sundays. (All of this information and much more is provided with your contract paperwork.)
We will recommend Historic Hideaways to all of our friends!

Yes, the kitchen is small however it is workable and is equipped very very well. The private patio was a real bonus. We were not bothered by early or late night noise when inside the house. I am going back to this one! Historic Hideaways was easy to deal with and very helpful. That's just an extra...this cottage was perfect. There were just 2 of us and the size of the 1BR cottage was exactly what we needed. The outdoor space is a dream. We met a nice couple at the pool one afternoon, but it was the only time we saw anyone. We spent hours in or by the pool. Again perfect. The crown jewel of this perfect cottage is it's location w/a parking space! No off street parking!! I lived in KW for a while so I know the lay of the land. To find a location just behind Sloppy Joes, almost at the corner of Greene and Ann WITH a parking spot. It doesn't get better than that...PERFECT.

Kitchen equipped w/ everything needed but we did no cooking. Used the coffee pot and microwave only. Kitchen windows now have mini blinds. Pool access was just a few steps we swam every day. Where do I start? This little cottage is a hidden gem. Perfect for a couple! It was clean, comfortable, convenient and was equipped with everything you could possibly want. Check-in and check-out on Duval was super easy! The kitchen, although small, is equipped with all the necessities - dish soap, dish towels, micro, coffee pot, toaster, blender, lots of pots/pans, utensils galore, plates/glasses, etc. Oh and it has a stove/oven but we did NO cooking! Just to clarify a few things I read on earlier reviews: kitchen windows now have mini blinds, bedroom has a beautiful white comforter, bedroom has a very nice size armoire for hanging clothes (equipped w/ plenty hangers), shelves and drawers for clothing, 2 nightstands on each side of bed (we stored our luggage on the side of each nightstand), bathroom is small but was never a problem - it has a "medicine cabinet" behind the mirror to store your things and tub seemed to be refinished. I loved the small personal touches of pump hand soap provided @ sink and in bathroom, as well as a roll of paper towels and several rolls of toilet paper to start our stay. Lots of bath towels provided so we never had to wash although there is a coin operated washer/dryer outside around the corner in the enclosed backyard. We drank our coffee every morning on the outside patio under a ceiling fan. We spent every afternoon cooling off in the beautiful pool. Even though it is shared, we only encountered one other very nice couple on maybe 2 days. Most of the time we had the pool to ourselves and it was literally "in our backyard". My only "con" is the landscaping definitely needs some TLC. It's a bit overgrown for my taste and we had several iguanas visit us (from a distance) everyday. Although I was scared @ 1st I quickly realized they were definitely more scared of me! Noise was never a problem. Yes we heard chickens every morning and yes we heard the squeaky automatic gate across the street. But neither of those would prevent us from staying here again. Loved it !!!

Close to amenities and great pool. Enjoyed the outside space, which was great for drying towels etc even when it rained as it's undercover. The proximity to Duval was great for short walks to dinner and Mallory Square, but when the garbage trucks collected the bottles from the bars opposite the rental from 4am onwards, this significantly impacted our ability to sleep. We also expected a higher specification within the property for the price (no headboard, lack of kitchen space, chipped flooring, no hoover, basic appliances). Overall, we enjoyed our stay but the property is let down by some key factors.

Ann Street is a small back street a half block from Duval and just "behind" old city hall. Virtually all of old town/Mallory Sq. is within walking distance. A neat, tucked away cottage for your get-a-way! Covered outdoor eating/relaxing areas that open up on to the pool was just what we love about this place.
Cottage is so charming and located at very heart of old Key West.

We're beautifully taken care of. Cottage is so charming and located at very heart of old Key West. At the same time, outdoor covered patio and grounds make you feel like you're in a jungle

We loved the Ann Street Garden cottage! It was the perfect size for a couple on vacation. The kitchen had everything we needed for equipment and even had some spices, and oil left for cooking. The living room was good size and had a wonderful view of the pool. The bathroom was decent size and the water pressure was good. Bedroom had plenty of storage in the armoire for our hanging clothes and folding clothes. The porch area was lovely and private for morning coffee, or you could sit out by the pool at the table and enjoy the landscaping around the pool. The cottage was in a quiet and peaceful location even though it was a block from Duval street. The location was perfect to get to the best parts of Duval street and the waterfront. We would definitely rent this cottage again!

I honestly hesitated to write this review because I want to keep it all to myself. My husband and I are unwilling transplants, having lived in Key West until about 6 years ago. We still spend a lot of time there, fortunately, and we have stayed many places, including other properties in the Ann Street compound. First of all, the compound is my favorite place on the Island to stay. It's steps from Duval but a world apart. The Ann Street Garden property is the most amazing place. It's magical and perfect, comfortable and casual, with every possible convenience. When I go to my "happy place" in my mind, it's this home. Historic Hideaways is a dream to work with too. No drama, simple and easy. I adore them almost as much as this property.
Private getaway yet in the middle of everything!!!

Everything there that you need, pool awesome, only annoying thing was the 4am garbage pickup for the bars on Duvall street. Beautiful property, comfortable bed (new), bathtub was refinished. The noise level was tolerable was the front door was closed. Would consider staying there again when coming call to KW.
Friendly check in...

This is our 22nd year of staying in the Keys, 13th year of strictly staying in Key West. We stay for a little over a week so vacation rentals are ideal - not to keen on hearing housekeeping knocking on doors every morning. Check in is a breeze with Historic Hideaways. The guys in the office took good care of us. The fan in the outdoor room was broken and Bill had a maintenance man here first thing the next morning to fix it. This little cottage has everything you will need. Nicely equipped little kitchen but I too covered up the windows with two tea towels. At night it's a clear view from the pool area into the kitchen. Could use some window coverings. Not much storage, had to put everything on top of or inside the fridge. Wifi is in the kitchen - had to unplug it once to reboot but no other problems with it. Nice sized bedroom and smallish bath. The cute baskets in the bathroom helped to have a place for each other's toiletries. I wasn't quite sure about the comforter (seemed to have some questionable stains...) so I switched it out for an extra one that was provided and threw the red one in the washer the next day. Nice wardrobe closet in the bedroom that had plenty of space for both of us but absolutely no other space for luggage or storage. We found a few places to tuck our bags and get them out of the way. One word of advise, if you can fit your our pillow in your luggage...do it. Lots of pillows were provided but they were ALL the hard flat kind...no fluffiness and no maneuvering for a side sleeper. That was a bummer. Hubby brought his own pillow and I swiped it every morning when he left to go fishing. You do hear the trash guys gathering up the bottles from the night before at 4am'ish but it doesn't last long and they move on down the road... All and all this is a comfy place. You do have the home field advantage when it comes to the pool, it is right out side the back door and you can pick your time to hang out. If you want company or quiet, you can always see who's there and pick out the sunny spots. I liked that for sure! While we were here the pool water was nice and comfy and the area was kept clean and beautiful. It looks like there might have been a flood or something that broke up some of the beautiful concrete floor after the pictures were taken, but no biggie. Hopefully we will be staying here again next year...

Tim was great, a pleasure to work with. Thanks again Tim. The home was perfect for a couple! The location on Ann street is the side of town I enjoy the most. Truck traffic in the morning could be bothersome to some, but didn't bother us. I really enjoyed the inside outside patio with grill, and the backyard pool. The central air and plumbing works great at the house. I've stayed at places in Key West before where that is an issue. Overall a wonderful place!
Probably the best rental location

Historic Hideaways provides excellent service for a carefree rental. Ann St. Garden is located near enough to everything (Duval, Mallory Sq.Z. Taylor State Park etc) that you never need a car. Although close to everything Key West, the property is extremely quiet. The Garden area and pool make it ideal for those who wish quiet restful time. The home itself has everything you need from well furnished kitchen, comfortable living areas with good TV's and enough outside furniture to match any persons needs

The Ann St cottage was perfect for our Key West vacation. We parked our car when we arrived and walked everywhere on the island until we left, using the hop-on, hop-off trolley to get around. What we loved best about this property is the outdoor room. It is large and private, making it very comfortable. We ate all of our meals outside! The kitchen is well-equipped and we established a pattern of walking to the nearby seafood market daily - we steamed local lobster at home, grilled tuna and grouper and enjoyed stone crab claws each evening. It was an awesome and affordable way to experience Florida's seafood. One disappointment was that the pool water was too cold to swim and, in November, the daily sunshine did not reach our pool area.
Could not have been better!

Check-in with Bill was a breeze. He provided the excellent advice that we should see which items (paper plates, soaps, trash bags, etc.) were already in the rental before we went shopping. The rental itself was very clean and contained everything we needed for the visit. The location could not be beat. We were quickly to our destinations whenever we went out. The grounds were quiet and the pool area contained lush tropical landscaping, which created a wonderful environment when we sat out there. The pool itself was large, clean and seemed to never be too warm or cold - so I assume it was temperature regulated. Highlights of the rental were the covered outdoor patio with ceiling fan and large comfortable living room. We have been coming to Key West for several years and this is easily our favorite rental in terms of size, amenities and location. I really have no negative comments about our experience.
