Property Information

An ideal Corporate or Family retreat, the Miller Homestead is a two story stone house built by a Quaker family in 1822. The home was restored over the period from 1996-1999 and is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The house maintains it's original charm and character of the period in which it was built with it's three fireplaces, bake oven, and original pine floors and deep paneled windows and woodwork through out the home. A modern yet "shaker style" kitchen with granite counter tops and all modern appliances has been added. There are two early period style bathrooms including a claw foot tub for a deep hot soak.

The first floor has an open kitchen, living and dining room with rustic and antique furniture characteristic of a great room in Adirondack style. There are four bedrooms and one over-sized loft area for sleeping a total of 9-12 people comfortably. All bedrooms are decorated and furnished with antiques and each has a unique characteristic typical of the period or rustic style of the Adirondacks. The home also includes a full basement with the original cistern intact as well as a washer and dryer and modern (yet discreet) heating system.

Unique Stone Features and Architecture

The Miller Homestead is situated on a knoll and coupled with the visual qualities of it's stonework, projects an air of distinction as one approaches it up the Hallock Hill Road past a long stretch of woods and the remains of a stone wall lining the road. All electric service to the house is underground so the house appears to be from an era before such modern conveniences were available. The building glistens with a unique variety of sizes, colors, and shapes of stone. Stones range in color from browns and orange to pink/reddish, and in size from small chinks to huge block, three foot by three foot in some places. The shapes vary from irregular jagged stones to neat square blocks and no two stones are the same. Potsdam sandstone is noted to have a lot of quartzite embedded in the stone which adds to its unique color and quality.

We invite you to step back in time to 1822 and get a glimpse of what it was like to live in a Quaker stone farmhouse. The home is restored with plaster walls and ceilings and the original woodwork from almost 200 years ago is all still intact. We are sure once you visit for a family or corporate retreat, you will feel that you have left the hustle and bustle of another world and will gain a feeling of peace and simplicity from the experience.
