Rooted in Scandinavian heritage, the festival celebrates the “burning away of winter” and the welcoming of summer with fire, music, food, and community spirit. Fyr Bal” (pronounced fear ball) is Norwegian for “bonfire,” and the festival carries on an old Scandinavian custom of lighting fires to chase away the long winter and celebrate the summer solstice. In Ephraim, this tradition is alive and well, blending history with modern fun.
