Property Description

This two-bedroom, two-bath classic contemporary is the perfect headquarters for your dream vacation. The entire inside is painted cloud white. This choice creates not only a crisp, clean elegance but also serves as the perfect backdrop for an amazing art collection. It's fitting that this special residence isn't designated merely by a street number but rather is named Valhalla. Of Norwegian descent or not, in a short time you'll come to appreciate the reference to heaven, to a personal piece of paradise.

Start your tour in the pool area, which easily comprises half the property. How appropriate this outdoor space allocation is for an island boasting 260 sunny days per year. If you're like most vacationers, you'll want to spend a large chunk of time floating or swimming or just dangling your toes in the sparkling blue water.

If you're ready to read or nap, move from the heated waters of the Riviera-shaped pool to the stone deck and sink into lime-green chaise lounge chairs. Small cocktail tables wait nearby for your iPad or Kindle and beverage. You can stretch out in sun or shade depending on the time and the play of sunlight through the verdant tropical foliage ringing the deck area.

And when you want complete shade, move to the adjacent wood-planked, roofed veranda. Here you'll find potted plants, a conversation area, a dining area for six, and a barbeque grill. Sit to enjoy some fresh tropical fruit or a sinful slice of Key Lime pie. This sheltered space is also perfect in case of brief tropical showers. You can enjoy the rain and soak up the healthy effects of negative ions while staying dry and comfortable.

Now step through the back door to enter the house. You're immediately in a "great room" that serves as the family room, TV or movie viewing room, living room, and study. The great room centers around a white couch with three cinnabar pillows arranged among white cushions. The red/orange square pillows reference the three framed paintings on the wall above. These works create a stunning contrast of vibrant palate of reds, blues, yellows against the rectangular white wall and vaulted ceiling above. Everything is white except the art in this room, down the hall, and in the bedrooms. The collection is eclectic and diverse, ranging from ancient to contemporary, from local to world famous, from found objects to sculpture to carvings to paintings.

To the right as you stand at the back door is a compact, functional kitchen that has everything you need to whip up some delicious one-bite appetizers or full meals. A wrought-iron rack suspended from the ceiling puts cookware and utensils at your fingertips, adds visual interest, and maximizes storage space. On the left is a convenient open-shelf pass-through that compliments the open floor plan.

From the kitchen, move down the hallway, which has more fabulous art on the right and three doors on the left. The first and third doors open into comfortable bedrooms and the one in between is a full bath. The first bedroom offers a queen bed with puffy white duvet, white bed linens, white louvered closet space, white dresser, and more colorful art. The second bedroom, the master suite, features a queen bed dressed in puffy white linens as well with the added convenience of another full bath. You know by just looking that you could sleep peacefully in either bedroom.

But before bedtime, there's vacation fun to be had: the tours, beaches, museums, water sports, shopping, bars, and over two hundred restaurants await you. To know what the Southernmost City has to offer from minute to minute, get a copy of Paradise, the free weekly round-up of local activity available almost everywhere or check the Calendar page at milezerokeywest.com. Both sources list the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events just to name a few. You will find plenty to entertain you. And you can still look forward to going back to your own private heaven, sleeping soundly, and getting up tomorrow to do it all over again. And at vacation's end, Valhalla will stick in your mind, will call you back.

To know what's going on from day to day, check out Historic Hideaways' informative Events page on our website. Other information on the current music scene, movies, plays, gallery openings, and charitable events include milezerokeywest.com and Paradise, which comes out every Thursday.

I cannot say enough about the entire experience! The house was amazing! Very well stocked with everything we needed in the kitchen. The outside area and pool was perfection. The location was super convenient to restaurants and shops. The concierge service was extremely helpful as well. I highly recommend this vacation rental! I have zero recommendations on how to improve! The only thing I want is to be best friends with whoever labeled the shelves in the kitchen with the label maker! It made my heart go pitter patter!
It had everything you could ever need.

The location was absolutely perfect, the home was spotless and very well organized! It had everything you could ever need. The beds and pillows were so comfortable not your cheap hotel setup. The private pool was a hit for our girls. The only complaint that I had about the property and it nothing big and would not ever stop me from renting from this place was it took forever to get the home cooled once we got there, they have 1 unit in living area and 1 unit in each bedroom but the 1st night was hot in the rooms it just took a while to get it cooled down to what we like and the other issue was we were not told about pool guy or landscaping people coming in on Thursday a heads up would have been nice especially with the back doors having solid windows and no coverings or if we were already out by the pool having pool day. Check-in and checkout was so easy and Historic Hideaways was wonderful to rent from and made the process so easy!!!

It was close enough to the busyness of Duval but still peaceful! Historic Hideaways was always available to answer any questions! Also, the house smells really good!

Check in was simple and fast. When we arrived at the property we were very impressed with the décor and cleanliness of the home. The bed was super comfortable and the shower was amazing too. We took advantage of many of Key West’s great restaurants so we didn’t use the kitchen in the house. The pool was perfect. We absolutely loved our stay and would love to visit Valhalla again.

Rental agency was great – they found a great place for us on short notice. Check-in and check-out were very smooth and easy. The home is beautifully decorated and comfortable. The kitchen is well-equipped and the grill is a real plus. We had everything we needed to cook in. Furniture is comfortable and the outdoor space is stunning. We felt right at home. The location is perfect. Easy access to great restaurants. On street parking was fine. There was a space available right in front of the house whenever we came back from a drive. We would stay here again in a heartbeat. The only very minor thing we would suggest is that the owner replace the latch on the gate. It was very difficult to operate.

Valhalla is a great place to stay in Key West. The size of the house was perfect for 3 of us; we could easily have fit another 1 or 2. The layout is good and it was well-appointed and clean. The house has everything you might need during your stay. Everything. The varied artwork is quite appealing. By far the best part of the house is the backyard. If there hadn't been so many things to do in Key West, I could easily have spent the week relaxing and reading by the pool. Surrounded by many different types of palm trees, you feel like you are in a tropical paradise. The house is in a quiet section of town, and is walking distance to everything. Higgs Beach is the closest, just a short walk. Southernmost Point is also very close. Many great restaurants are close by. Uber and Lyft are easy to get if you need to get somewhere further away. Check-in and check-out couldn't have been easier and the concierge services worked out well for us. All of the staff we interacted with were friendly and helpful. We would definitely stay here again!

We loved our stay at Valhalla. The house was perfect and the backyard was amazing. The house is close to Duval Street and yet away enough to be quiet. The house was well appointed and had great artwork throughout. The back yard around the pool is where we spent a lot of time. It was quiet and very private. We ate several meals outside on the patio and spent a lot of time relaxing by the pool.

Location was fabulous2 blocks off upper Duval and still an Old Town neighborhood feel. Historic Hideaways service was excellent. Dryer quit working and a new one was installed 24 hrs later. Valhalla is an interesting Conch house expansion with a lovely pool & loads of very nice outdoor space & seating for sitting by the pool and dining al fresco. The living room is small & rectangular, making indoor seating/conversation/TV watching awkward for even 3 people. There are no bedroom TVs in the homedisappointing given the high price point of the rental

Valhalla was very clean upon arrival. We noted new (and much needed) pool-side furniture, since last visit and it was very comfortable. The location is quiet, private and feels "off the beaten track", yet close to the restaurants and places we like to visit. Several problems occurred, but we're promptly remedied: both propane tanks for the grill we're empty and the kitchen blender did not work. Finally as a heads up the trash pick-up is Tuesday, so guests should be advised to put trash at curb on Monday eve NOT Tues eve.

The Valhalla property was outstanding! The house was spotless and included every amenity that we could have asked for. It was tastefully decorated with beautiful artwork. The furniture was very comfortable. The location was within walking/biking distance to the beaches and the downtown. We enjoyed the pool, but had to get some extra directions via a phone call, to turn on the heat. The best part of our stay was the ability to bike and walk everywhere. I highly recommend reserving bikes for the duration of one's stay. Also, we loved Garbo's Grill so much, we ate lunch there three times. This is a must stop for a fresh and delicious bite! We would definitely rent this or any other property from Historic Hideaways in the future. One last note: The Concierge service is one added bonus that we benefited from. They arranged our trip to the Dry Tortuga's, bikes rentals, and dinner reservations. Thank you so much for making our trip spectacular!

The house and location were perfect. The quality of the beds, the linens, the dishes and cutlery, kitchen appliances all excellent. Would have liked a garbage disposal but imagine that was not possible in Key West. Fausto market surprising good and walk able. Only slightly negative was the really cold pool. I think your instructions for heating could be more accommodating. Forget having an artificial date of not heating before 1 December if there are cool nights in the middle of November or other times. But all in all an excellent stay.

I also ironed while there. It's the little things that make me happy! The pool was great. The living room chairs were my favorite after walking in the humid heat & enjoying a nap in the air conditioning. We bought seafood from a local food market on Eaton & it was fantastic to be able to grill at the house. My only regret was leaving my frozen chocolate covered Key Lime pie in the freezer! We rented the Valhalla house on United street. The house is beautiful and the pool and deck area are breathtaking. The house was very clean and had plenty of towels an the kitchen had all the utensils and appliances needed for cooking. The location on United street is a little too far from Duval for me and there is a lot of construction going on the few blocks around Valhalla. The house beside Valhalla is under construction and there were a lot of work vans and other vehicles parked in front of the house. Not having off street parking and the noise from the construction were my only complaints

It's perfectly situated, close to the Southernmost end of the island, near great restaurants, the beach, etc. My only disappointment was the temperature of the pool. We paid extra to have the pool heated, but 86 was not adequate. So we paid the extra money but never used the pool. That was a shame.
