You obviously take great pride in making your home enjoyable for others. We've been renting homes in Lake George now for 5 years now and your home is, by far, the most comfortable and desirable house that we've stayed in. Thanks for making our stay so pleasant. Within a 15 mile radius of Lake George there are over 15 public golf courses and amazingly 111 holes!! If you like the challenge of long narrow fairways, tricky doglegs and bunkered greens, then try the Sagamore, Hiland Park, Kingswood or Brookhaven golf courses. The Queensbury Country Club, Tee Bird and Cronins golf courses offer a slightly more forgiving yet challenging round of play. The Top of The World course offers 9 more holes with spectacular mountain top views of Lake George. Bay Meadows is a good course for golfers of all ages. Beginners and young adults will enjoy the very relaxed pitch and fairways of the Sunnyside Par Three golf course. Green Mansions Moteland 1,000 Acres Ranch offer their own golf courses. The commonality between all of these courses is their splendid views of the Adirondacks. All of these courses are well-maintained with plentiful trees which provide ample shade for those hot summer days. It is recommended that you make your tee time reservations in advance. FISHING: Bring your own boat, or charter one locally. Whitewater rafting and kayaking: both short rides and extended tours are offered on the Hudson and Sacandaga Rivers from April 1 to October 1. Launch sites nearby. MOUNTAIN BIKING: Gore Mountkain ski slopes are open for biking in the summer and early fall. Bike Trails start in Lake George Village, where bicycles are available for rent. MUSEUMS: In Glens Falls, the Hyde Collection for fine art and the Chapman for local history. Both open year-round. In Blue Mountain Lake (an hour's drive), the Adirondack Museum offers extensive exhibits on Adirondack history. An all-day excursion. Open late May to mid-October. DINNER THEATER: The Lake George Dinner Theatre in Lake George Village. Equity actors playing six days a week from mid-June to mid-October. BALLET AND CONCERTS: Saratoga Performing Arts Center (SPAC) with performances in the summer by the New York City Ballet, the Philadelphia Orchestra, and rock and jazz groups (40 minute drive). THOROUGHBRED AND HARNESS RACING: The Saratoga Race Track, a world-class flat track, is open from late July through Labor Day. The harness-racing track is open February through November. Both are in Saratoga Springs (40 minute drive). AMUSEMENT PARKS: Great Escape, a truly big-time amusement park experience, and Magic Forest, whose setting really is a forest. (Both about 15 minutes away.) Waterslide World and Skateland equally close to home, add to the fun. THE LAKE: Lake George is approximately 32 miles long and is nearly 2 miles wide. Much of the shoreline, particularly the eastern shore, is unsettled. Due to the tight restrictions, through federal and state administered conservation efforts, it will forever remain so. The shoreline ranges from beautiful, quiet, sandy beaches to rocky crags, cliffs, marshes and tall hemlock stands. The East side is quiet, private, rural, and residential with dramatic sunset views looking West over the water. The water quality and clarity is excellent. In fact, the water is so clean, most of the summer and year-round residents take their daily drinking water directly from the lake, without purification! Scuba diving is very popular in Lake George. Not only does the water clarity lend itself to this form of activity, the local history of the region demands the avid diver to come and explore. Ancient ship wrecks abound. There are numerous underwater sites to explore and discover. The towns of Bolton, Diamond Point and other communities surrounding Lake George are both interesting and unique and have plenty of activities to enjoy. Quaint little shops and restaurants line the streets and a more relaxed atmosphere prevails. Many prefer this slower-paced way of life. Lake George Village on the other hand, offers a village setting combined with a tremendous amount of interesting and fun things to do. Within two blocks you can rent a boat, ride a parasail, take a boat cruise, play minature golf, hit the arcades, watch a war reenactment, take a carriage ride, swim, ski, grab a great lunch or have a tasty cocktail. This is just a sampling of the many things to do on your Lake George vacation! |
