Property Activities
On Soliman Bay

Casa Maravilla is located on the Mayan Riviera, about one hour south of Cancun and just north of the small town of Tulum. It sits on the shimmering white sands of Soliman Bay, a private area protected by the coral reef and adjacent to a smaller bay, which is home to the famous Oscar and Lalo's beachfront restaurant and the setting for the popular Corona beer commercial widely seen in the US. Casa Maravilla and a few other private villas are located along the main bay and are accessed from the highway by a small, rural road.

Located in the region known as Tankah, Soliman Bay is well known for its beautiful and protected bays, aquamarine water and white beaches. The neighboring village of Tulum has been recently renovated and features shopping, miles of beaches and numberous fine restaurants. It is best known for the unique Mayan ruins of Tulum that sit high above the sea on a cliff at the edge of the turquoise blue Caribbean. Tulum, once called Zama or "place of the downing sun," was named because of the dominating position of these famous ruins. It is one of the most scenically beautiful of all the Mayan archaelolgical sites and an easy 10 minutes from Casa Maravilla.

Casa Maravilla is located on the Riviera Maya or Mayan Riviera. The Riviera Maya consists of the areas south of Cancun and north of the Sian Ka'an Biosphere. Puerto Morelos, a marine and fishing village is the northern most town. Playa Del Carmen, one of the fastest growing areas in Latin America, lies further to the south. Once a quiet fishing village, this city now provides all of the amenities and services - hospitals to shopping - of an urban area. Puerto Aventuras is a boaters' paradise - a marina blasted out of limestone provides shops and restaurants encircling a dolphin enclosure.
Akumal

Akumal, a pleasant resort village, is comprised of North Akumal, Central Akumal, Jade Bay and South Akumal. Mayan for place of the turtles, Akumal has some wonderful snorkeling spots; Yal-Ku Lagoon, Half Moon Bay and Akumal Bay. As well a number of shops, spa facilities and restaurants.

Soliman Bay

Only 10 minutes drive south of Akumal and 10 minutes north of Tulum, is Soliman Bay, also known as Punta Soliman. This protected bay offers you peace and tranquility away from the hordes in Playa del Carmen and Tulum. Houses and palapas pepper the coastline and in the evenings, all locals head to the legendary Oscar and Lalos. This bar/restaurant, which is located on the beach, serves lots and lots of fresh seafood, and offers diving trips and fishing charters. Stay as long as you like as there are plenty of hammocks and a shaded palapa with comfortable couches.

When you visualize a tropical paradise you may conjure up images of past Corona commercials, if so, there is a very good chance you are imagining Soliman Bay. Because this is that place - a secluded bay where gentle waves crash upon the coral reef and sooth you senses. You won't be disappointed if you make the journey here - relax, have a drink on the sandy beach or rent a kayak and explore the bay. There are also walking trails here which meander through mangroves and offer some of the best bird watching around. Soliman Bay is a secluded area made up of two bays. The smaller bay is best known for the Corona commercial and Oscar and Lalo's restaurant. The larger bay is where Casa Maravilla and other private villas are located. Tankah Bay neighbors Soliman and also has a couple of nice restaurants.

Tulum

Home to the world famous Mayan ruins and great beaches with wonderful waves, this mystical place attracts a wide variety of people from nature enthusiasts heading to the Sian Ka'an Biosphere to New Age types drawn here for its healing powers. Tulum is a wonderful town that has recently undergone many renovations to become a great spot for dining and shopping. It's made up of the well known ruins, the beach community and the inland town located along the highway. To get to the ruins and the beaches you need to turn left at the Coba Road. South of Tulum is the largest Mexican national park called the Sian Ka'an Biosphere. There are several tours available to experience its natural wonders from fresh water ecosystems, ocean and reef, to jungle and Mayan archaeological sites.

What to do and see on the Riviera Maya

Of course with the Mesoamerica Reef, the second longest in the world right off shore this is the perfect spot for all kinds of watersports. All up and down the coast you can enjoy scuba diving, snorkeling, kayaking, fishing, sailing and just plain relaxing on the beach. The limestone terrain here makes it a place full of incredible cenotes, fresh water holes, and underground rivers and caves. There are a number of eco-parks that allow you to enjoy these treasures: Hidden Worlds, Xcaret, Xel-Ha, Aktun Chen and more. Steeped in Mayan history this area is well known for its archaeological sites such as Tulum, Xel-Ha, Muyil and Coba. A day trip away is the famous Chichen Itza.
