The Lookout is located less than 10 minutes from downtown Boone and Appalachian State University, and is only minutes from the Blue Ridge Parkway, Boone, Blowing Rock, Valle Crucis, and Banner Elk. Downtown Boone offers an abundance of local shopping, dining, and brewery options. Willow Valley Golf Course, a 9-hole Par 3 Executive course, is five minutes away. The Valle Crucis Community is less than fifteen minutes down the road, and is home to the historic Mast General Store and the water front Valle Crucis Community Park. Tweetsie Railroad, Appalachian Ski Mountain, Boone Golf Course, High Gravity Adventures Aerial Park, Grandfather Winery, the Blue Ridge Parkway, Wilderness Run Alpine Coaster, and many more High Country adventures are all within a brief 20-minute drive.

The Lookout is a custom built log cabin on 18 acres of mountainside property overlooking spectacular vistas of the Blue Ridge Mountains. The cabin’s hand hewn logs are a testament to the courage, resilience, and sacrifices made by the pioneering souls of early America. Moved and reassembled in its current location, the cabin was built in the 1830s by the Callaway family, who were immortalized in the annals of American history when their daughters were kidnapped and rescued by the frontiersman, Daniel Boone. The main floor living room has exposed log walls and ceiling beams making it a cozy place to warm up by the rock gas fireplace. The updated kitchen has all you need to cook a favorite meal, and plenty of counter space, including a butcher block island, for prep work. Outside, the covered porch is the perfect place to relax in the rocking chairs with your morning coffee and take in the long range mountain views of Grandfather, Sugar, and Beech Mountains. The back deck has a gas grill, fire pit, and outdoor dining table where guests can enjoy the cool mountain air. The lower level den has a large sectional with room for the whole family to relax on while playing a game or watching TV. 

This historic three bedroom and two bathroom cabin can accommodate up to six guests. Grandfather Mountain can be seen from each bedroom. The top floor has two bedrooms with queen beds that share a full bathroom. The lower level has an additional queen bedroom and full bathroom. 

Additional amenities include Wifi, a Nintendo Switch, and a washer and dryer. The bedrooms and common areas are heated by electric baseboard heat. There is no central AC at The Lookout. Up to two pets are welcome with an additional pet fee. Please note that there are exterior security cameras at the cabin. AWD or 4WD is required for winter travelers.

You may cancel within 24 hours of booking and receive a full refund.  If you cancel more than 30 days before arrival, you will receive a refund of half the amount paid to date.  Cancellations within 30 days before the arrival date do not receive a refund.  If you purchase travel insurance and the reason for the cancellation is covered, you may recover the entire amount.
