Once you are nestled into this cottage and the gates are closed, you would never know you are "smack dab" in the middle of Old Town Key West. A special feature of Key West cottage neighborhoods are the charming little walking lanes that are scattered throughout the historic district. These timeless pathways are very similar to what you find in the Abaco chain of the Bahama Islands. The lanes reflect the ambiance of a simpler yesteryear, when people moved about by foot, and horse and buggy.
The lane location of this cottage is my idea of a perfect Key West get-a-way in the ideal Old Town location. Situated at the end of a hidden walking lane, it is a slice of paradise made completely private with tall wooden fences and tropical landscaping. Your own private courtyard has bricked pathways, a spacious wooden deck, a large Jacuzzi, an out-door dining table, and plenty of space to soak up the sun.
Newly renovated, this wooden cottage was originally built as a cigar maker's house in the early 1900's. To meet modern standards, the re-design of this small historic cottage combined one side of the building to create an open living, dining, and kitchen area. French doors at the end of the kitchen carry the living space to the outdoor deck.
The interior make-over opened the ceiling to expose the wooden beams, and added modern luxurious extras including granite counter tops, new tile and wood flooring, and ambient lighting. The updated décor draws from traditional Caribbean design with the use of wood and wicker furniture. Walls are painted faux style with delicious colors of mango and papaya. Open beam ceilings are lined with tropical reed. Ceiling fans with blades carved from mahogany into leaf shapes top it off to create a real island feel.
The layout of this cottage is as functional as it is charming. There are two bedrooms and one bathroom. The master bedroom is toward the back of the cottage. It is roomy and has a queen size bed, large closet and chest of drawers. While the second bedroom is cozy, it has the added ambience of French doors that lead to the deck for easy access to the Jacuzzi. It also has a queen size bed.
The living room is handsomely furnished, and the sofa makes into a full size sleeper futon. The kitchen is equipped with all the basics to eat in if you decide to. This cottage is ideal for one or two couples, and a perfect get away for a single. It can sleep five if you don't mind getting cozy. It also works well for a family with one or two children.

Parking: This cottage has no private off-street parking, but it is located next to a parking lot that will offer you parking at a discounted rate. Fortunately from here you really never need to get in your car. Enjoy walking or biking everywhere—you'll see more that way. Enjoy the island to the fullest, and then come home to relax in the Jacuzzi and BBQ on the deck. If you drive your car into Key West, we recommend you park it in the discounted parking lot close to the cottage..
