Designed by a well known Key West abstract artist and a landscape architect this unique art deco living space is at once daring, serene, and comfortable. Like a fresh work of modern art this unique indoor / outdoor tropical home sets a feng shui designer style for up-scale modern interpretations of island architecture. A bold break away from traditional historic Key West revival architecture this extraordinary modernistic renovation of a 1940's home captures the essence of exotic tropical living.
When I first visited this spacious two story home I was immediately impressed with the designer's utilization of feng shui elements of architecture in this modernistic art-deco home. A variety of natural materials have been integrated in innovative ways that magically flow together to create inviting and comfortable living spaces. Kitchen counters are both sleek and earthy, created with smooth poured concrete made shiny to create a unique marbleized effect. Interior flooring transitions to the outside water gardens using a multiple of mediums including tiles, hardwood sealed with acrylic paint, decking, and rock gardens. Mirrored walls, subtle track lighting, and minimalist furnishings set off large floor to ceiling bold colored abstract paintings and bounce light from the outside gardens throughout the home.
Downstairs the living room, dining room, and kitchen are open and airy and appointed with colorful contemporary art-deco designer furnishings. Both rooms open to the 45 foot swimming pool to create the perfect indoor / outdoor entertaining area with a full open view of the water garden area through multiple sets of sliding glass doors. A beautiful (in tune) black baby grand piano graces an entrance between the garden and living room area. A den area in the downstairs offers an additional private sleeping and TV viewing area. An artful pool bath is conveniently located for access to downstairs interior living and the garden area. The home also offers a private work out gym area with floor to full wall mirroring.
Bedtime will lure you to the switch-back stair case adorned in fanciful faux leopard carpet that leads to the spacious second floor. A central hall links the second floor bedrooms. The large elegant master bedroom has a modern platform king sized bed. This bedroom is joined with the outdoors through sliding glass doors that lead to the large private lounging deck overlooking the garden. The master bedroom also offers a private bathroom with an oversized tile shower for two.
The other two bedrooms are also on the second floor. Both are styled for comfort, function, and relaxation. One of the bedrooms has two twin beds. The other has a day trundle bed which will sleep one to two. The second upstairs bathroom offers a Jacuzzi tub for massaging away the aches. For the business person, writer, or artist, an added benefit on the second floor is a sleek built-in office desk area which has ample space for art lay outs, drawing, and sorting business paper work.
Outside the colorful garden is no less than spectacular. The focal point of the exterior design is the long 48 foot heated pool which features an amazing abstract tile trickling wall fountain. The sensual sound of the water is both calming and stimulating to the senses. Seating spaces are integrated throughout to enhance and inspire enjoyment of the garden and pool area. The exotic garden design incorporates a wide variety of native and exotic trees, flowers, and building mediums including water, stones, brick work, decking, rock work and tile.
The layout of this home makes it ideal for family groups or small groups of friends. This home is offered as an exclusive vacation rental. The property will not tolerate smoking inside. Only well behaved children are welcome. This property is not "child-proof". We do not accept guests under 25 years of age unless accompanied by a family group or guardian. |
