This gorgeous home is ideal for large groups and family reunions, but will also serve well for a luxury-seeking couple who could use the upstairs only. The mountain decor and unique decorating touches make this house feel far more like a friend's vacation home than a rental house.
Rocky Retreat is located in a quiet, wooded, Old Tahoe residential area only a few minutes' walk from a lovely local beach and a short drive to 10+ North Tahoe ski/boarding resorts and cross-country ski areas. It combines privacy and serenity with easy accessibility to everything Tahoe has to offer.
The Great Room is expansive but cozy with it's high vaulted ceilings, skylights, and many windows. A stone gas fireplace creates a cozy place where the whole family or group can come together to spend a relaxing evening after a day of fun.
French doors lead from the Great Room & Master Bedroom to a redwood deck with a very smallview of the lake, deck furniture & a gas grill. Sunsets over the lake are fabulous from this vantage point.
The large gourmet kitchen is exceptional and is open to the Great Room and gracious dining area, so the cook (or cooks, for the kitchen is spacious enough to provide for many!) will never feel separated from the rest of the group.
Upstairs, on the same level as the Great Room and kitchen, is the Master Bedroom with a large vanity area separate from the bathroom. The adjoining Master Bathroom's shower is huge with 2 showerheads.
Downstairs there are 3 bedrooms and one bathroom (as well as a fully equipped kitchenette -- with a sink which expands the options for tooth brushing, hand washing & primping! ):
The Forest Room has a Queen bed + a twin sofa bed. The Bunk Room has 2 sets of log bunk beds as well as a TV/VCR and a computer desk/armoire. The Garden Room has a Queen bed.
The fully enclosed, landscaped garden has a large hot tub, garden furniture and a barbeque as well as a separate, fully enclosed dog run.
Access is level, (& only one block off the highway-- but despite that, very quiet), snow load is lighter than in most parts of the Lake, and parking for 3 cars is easy.
ROCKY RETREAT IS VERY CENTRALLY LOCATED FOR ALL NORTH TAHOE ACTIVITIES:

Lake Tahoe is North America's largest Alpine lake.
It is 22 miles long & 12 miles wide
It is the 10th deepest lake in the world at a depth of 1645 feet
Due to it's volume, Lake Tahoe never freezes over, and even in the summer, doesn't get as warm as some of us would like!
(Although it wouldn't have it's renouned blue hue if it were warmer because more algae would grow in it & turn it greener!)
The average water temperature of the lake in July, August & the beginning of September is about 68 degrees
If it's been hot and still for several days, the lake temperature can get up to 72 degrees
Many people use a wetsuit for water-skiing in Lake Tahoe.

The beach with snow was amazing and our kids all enjoyed the sledding down to it. Absolutely tons of snow, so the skiing was wonderful. This place is wonderful! It was large & open enough to accommodate our entire family without being crowded. We enjoyed the views from the deck & relaxing back yard. The well-stocked kitchen was very helpful in meal preparations. Everything was great in making our visit a "great" experience. First of all we would like to say "Thank you", to Gail and her family, for open this very nice house to the public. We were eight guys who enjoyed every second of our vacation. The house is wonderful (and convenient) located near the Lake. You can reach all Ski areas within an hour drive.
The house is huge and very well equipped. We liked the gas range in the kitchen very much.
Of course everybody loved the hot tube in the backyard.
Conclusion: Huge, clean, very good organized house just a stone's throw from gambling, ski areas, bars, restaurants and beaches away.

Like the previous guests this was our second stay at this wonderful house. We have been going to Tahoe for 14 years on a yearly ski trip and have found this to be the perfect house. Great location, all the features needed for a comfortable stay. We really like having the majority of the bedrooms/beds downstairs with the kitchen, dining, living room upstairs. This allows large groups to be on different schedules. Gail is a pleasure to work with!

Second time we have stayed here. It is a wonderful home, very high tone, with all the amenities, well appointed in every room. We especially appreciated the hot tub running perfectly when we got there.
Can't say enough nice things about this home, and doing business with the owners. The kitchen is a joy to work in, with all the utensils and cups and plates and cooking equipment you could need.
The living room is so comfortable, the bedrooms all very nice. Our family of 10 slept here beautifully.
What a treat to be able to bring our dog also.We will continue to use Rocky Retreat, as my daughter said, "It is a perfect home for our extended family."
