This drive will take you about two hours depending on how many times you stop for photos and how many others are traveling over the pass. You will venture over the scenic Beartooth Highway which switchbacks your way into Yellowstone. Additionally, you can take another equally beautiful route named the Chief Joseph Highway which offers inspiring views of the Rocky Mountains.
The Glen is a perfect place to unwind after an exciting day of skiing the summit of Grizzly Peak, hiking in the Beartooth Mountains or on one of the many established trails in the surrounding area. Enjoy sitting outside under the Montana sky as the setting is perfect for stargazing any month of the year. The Yellowstone Wildlife Sanctuary is only minutes away and a great place for the kids to enjoy. The surrounding area has offerings for the adventurer seeking rafting or kayaking on the Stillwater River and boating and paddle boarding at Cooney Dam. The outdoor activities almost never stop with snowshoeing, skiing, snowboarding, hiking and not to mention the fun to be had on Rock Creek fishing! Minutes away are groomed Nordic Ski trails, but feel free to strap on your skis right out your back door on the golf course during the winter. This is Montana living at its finest.
Why the lodge is named “The Glen.” “Glen” is a Scottish/Gaelic term for a deep valley in the Highlands, typically one that is long, deep, and often glacially U-shaped, or one with a watercourse running through it. The resemblance of the Scottish Highlands while approaching Red Lodge and the views from the region is stunning. The Monarch of the Glen is a famous portrait of a large Red Deer placed purposely over the sign-in book in the entryway. You will see the similarities in the painting of this wonderful back drop.
Experience this July in Red Lodge with three great events! The Beartooth Rally brings in the 2 wheel iron horse riders that are spectacular. If you want more traditional riders, July 2nd through the 4th is the Home of Champions Rodeo featuring some of the world’s best cowboys and cowgirls. And if you are a car buff don’t miss Cruisen’ Red Lodge….a great classic car show!
From the National Finals Ski-Joring in March to Christmas Stroll in December there is always a great event to enjoy around Red Lodge!
