Property Information
Our Hideaway is located in the Hiawatha National Forest on FF Hwy 13, just 10 miles South of Munising, Lake Superior and Pictured Rocks! The Hideaway was once our home, but we welcome guests whole heartedly and hope to retire back in the forest someday. You can expect the Hideaway to be clean, comfortable and supplied with a starter of paper towels, toilet paper, tissue, dish soap, hand soap and laundry soap. Our Hideaway is nestled in beautiful pine trees for ultimate privacy. We have three bedrooms: two on the main floor, each with log style, Queen size Beds, a night stand, closet, privacy shades, seating, and a view of the forest. The master bedroom has a ceiling fan. The main floor bathroom has a tub/shower combo, behind the door laundry chute and a window that looks over the back yard and fire pit. The New, Spacious and carpeted 3rd Bedroom, which Tom finally completed in 2005, in the downstairs has a log style King size Bed and Double size bed, night stands, lamps, alarm clock, seating and two extra large windows to let the light in. Attached to the bedroom is a large bathroom with ceramic tile floor, a vanity room with 2 sinks, and a separate, but adjacent to, shower/toilet room. The shower is very large with ceramic tile on the floor and walls. The New Bedroom and Bathroom is paneled with beautiful tongue and groove Cedar on the new walls and ceiling! For additional guests, there are 3 sofa sleepers.
Attached to the Hideaway is a 2 car garage to park your cars, ATV's, or work on your snowmobile. You can store all your gear in the downstairs and utilize the washer and dryer as well. The full kitchen includes large refrigerator with ice maker, microwave, dishwasher, range with a glass top stove, lots of dishes, utensils, cooking pots, pans, blender, hand mixer (for birthday cakes J !), a few pampered chef cooking tools, coffee pot, spices and lots of extras! In the evenings you can enjoy our beautiful outdoors while you cook over our charcoal grill or fire pit! Come and enjoy the quiet sanctuary of the Hiawatha National Forest located in the Beautiful Upper Peninsula. Enjoy our cozy Hideaway complete with one acre of quiet. Well behaved pets are welcome, but please inquire first as there is an additional fee.
If you are interested in trout fishing Come & enjoy your vacation at our Hiawatha's Hideaway in the SPRING. We are so close to many lakes & streams. Fish for your dinner & watch as the beauty of the Hiawatha National Forest comes to life again! The area falls at this time of year are gushing with newly released water.
Cameras are a must all year round!! In the SUMMER, enjoy your day biking, hiking, or sightseeing on Bruno's Run (within walking distance) and Pine Martin Run (nearby). Or, rent a canoe for a beautiful tour of The Indian River which is only a half of a mile from the house. Walk down to the general store to get an ice cream cone, or relax by a campfire in the back yard & roast marshmallows. Since you usually can't snowmobile during the summer in Alger County , bring your Four Wheelers instead! Lake Superior is only 10 miles north, so take a beautiful Pictured Rocks Cruise; glass bottom boat ride to view fish and shipwrecks; rent a kayak or jet ski; or, shop in one of many gift shops in Munising, then you can enjoy a fine meal at one of the many local restaurants.
A trip to the Hiawatha National Forest in the FALL is a photographers dream! Highway 13, being a scenic byway, is 36 miles long and full of color in the fall and the most gorgeous anywhere! This is also the perfect time and place for hunting partridge, deer & bear! Our favorite thing to do in the fall is to hike the 2-1/2 miles out to Chapel Rock which has a full view of Lake Superior . On a warm, windy day, the waves of Lake Superior are huge, and encourage brave swimmers!
The WINTER in the Hiawatha National Forest is unbelievable! The beauty alone will blow you away, with newly fallen snow blanketing pine trees, creating a white tunnel throughout the forest. Snowmobiling, the biggest draw to the Upper Peninsula in the winter, is spectacular on the many miles of trails that take you through picturesque scenery you can only imagine! Whatever winter activity you might enjoy...snowmobiling, (snowmobile from Door to Trail !) cross country skiing (our many, many groomed trails), sledding(at Thunder Bowl), ice fishing, etc., Hiawatha's Hideaway is right in the center of everything, and since the Hideaway sits on 1 acre, you'll have plenty of privacy and quiet when you come back from a full day of Winter Fun! You'll probably need to rest and relax for the next days' activities! Stop along your travels to one of the many area restaurants to have a nice lunch or dinner, or ride back to the Hideaway and cook your own meal in our full kitchen. Enjoy the many sights and sounds of the area. If you are lucky enough, you may even see deer, bear, wild rabbit, wild turkeys, and...MOOSE??? Yes, it's a known fact that a few Moose have been spotted in the area as well.
