Property Description

Hilltop Hideaway is near the top of Solares Hill, the highest point in Key West, a mere 15 feet above sea level. ("Hilltop" is a word the locals use loosely in Key West!) This meticulously cared for two-bedroom, one full bath condo is near the center of Old Town. It's just two blocks from Duval Street and its hundreds of shops and restaurants, five blocks to the Historic Seaport, and a short walk to the beach. While centered close to all the happenings of Key West, Hilltop Hideaway is tucked away on a quiet, neighborly street where people leisurely stroll, ride their bikes and walk their dogs.

Off the sidewalk and through the gate of a white picket fence leads you to the Hilltop's small, private front courtyard lined with antique bricks and colorful floraTo the left a table and two chairs create the perfect outdoor place for your morning coffee or evening glass of wine. Up a few more stairs brings you to the front porch with rocking chair. Sit here to watch dog walkers, bikers, and locals pass by on their way to Fausto's for groceries or Havana- Key West for one of the best Cuban Mix sandwiches on the island.

Inside the front door, windows fill the wall, spreading the amazing daylight of Key West throughout. Or close the blinds to create the cozy ambience of lamplight at night. Natural wood floors lead from room to room. The dominant pallet is cloud white, which in color psychology represents peace, calm, order, and efficiency, all of which apply here. The living area offers a white, slip-covered couch dotted with colorful throw pillows. A generous sized ottoman in front of it does double duty as more seating or a coffee table. Perfectly positioned opposite the deep-seated couch is a bookcase holding a flatscreen TV. You can sink into the oh-so comfy couch while you watch your favorite program or movie. Of course there's wireless high-speed internet, AC, stereo, and cable. A companion chair to the couch provides a reading corner if TV is not your pleasure.

The living area flows naturally into the dining nook. A black accent table flanked by white chairs sits below a colorful poster that announces "Visit Cuba." Sit here for a meal or to play board or card games after dinner. With over two hundred eating establishments in Key West, the hardest decision about food is where/when, eat in/go out.

If you decide to eat in, the full kitchen provides everything you need to facilitate the process: granite countertops, a double sink, stainless-aluminum stove, refrigerator, and microwave, a toaster, cabinets above and below, a coffee maker, cookware, and tableware. Bonus items are a window over the sink and a sit-at bar with stools at one end. There's also a utility closet for cleaning materials.

A full bath flanked by the two bedrooms completes the interior. The bath is beautifully tiled in a color reminiscent of the island's many sand and coral beaches. The rest is clean white, including the shower curtain and linen closet full of luxuriously thick, nubby towels.

One of the bedrooms features two twin beds, which can be arranged as a King, a bedside table, a wall-mounted flatscreen TV, and an eye-catching rice paper floor lamp. Behind louvered doors is a generous closet for hanging and shelf items. A slat-shaded window between the beds brings in daylight or keeps the night out. A minimalist nautical theme adds interest and just the right amount of color.

The second bedroom offers a queen bed, a wall-mounted flatscreen, a louvered-door closet, an end table with lamp, and windows on two walls. Should you have the blinds open, one window looks out on the delightful front courtyard, bringing that the "tropical" outside right into the room.

Although the living space is delightful, the rest of the 33040 zip code also awaits. Hilltop Hideaway is only two blocks from Duval Street with its abundance of offerings: tours, museums, shops, drag shows, and a plethora of restaurants and bars, most offering Happy Hour specials. Maybe take a Conch Train Tour, a Historic Key West self-guided Walking Tour, or a bike tour to get a better idea of the island geography. If the arts interest you, you've come to the right place for music, movies, plays, art galleries, lectures, artists in residence, and more.

You're also close to the Historic Seaport and Harbor Walk. Follow the wooden boardwalk along the Gulf of Mexico to find historic tall ships offering day and sunset sails or take an all-day ferry excursion to the Dry Tortugas. If you're interested in watersports, there are all kinds: diving, fishing, parasailing, snorkeling, and jet skiing to name a few. If you get hungry or thirsty, a dozen or so restaurants of varying levels of informality ring the harbor. Don't miss the spectacular sunset celebration every evening at Mallory Square, where visitors and locals gather to applaud as the last curve of the sun dips below the horizon. If this is your first trip to the Conch Republic, a guidebook or stop at the Chamber of Commerce Information Center will help make sure you don't miss anything. Owner may consider ONE SMALL dog. Contact Office for details.
